Carlton Coach Brett Ratten: Bryce Gibbs Ready To Explode

CARLTON coach Brett Ratten has wrapped up Bryce Gibbs for Blues fans this Christmas, declaring the star playmaker is in for a bumper 2012 season.

Ratten said today Gibbs had been one of the standout performers at Carlton so far this pre-season and he expected him to step up in the midfield next year.

Gibbs, 22, has been recovering from a shoulder injury he sustained in the Blues' elimination final win over Essendon, but it has not hindered his summer.

"His pre-season has been outstanding; he has done all the work," Ratten said.

Carlton Recruit Rowe Owes Teammate Duigan For Second Chance

CARLTON draftee Sam Rowe has thanked former Norwood teammate and fellow mature-age recruit Nick Duigan for helping pave the way for his second chance in the AFL.

Rowe, 24, said his selection in last week's national draft was largely due to Duigan's success in his first year at the Blues.

Duigan, who played 22 games in his debut season, was drafted as a 26-year-old in 2010 after impressing with Norwood, where Rowe has spent the past four years.

Rowe said he owed Duigan for giving the Blues the confidence to take a punt on him.

Andrew McKay Joins Carlton

Andrew McKay has been appointed General Manager Football Operations at the Carlton Football Club.

“We are delighted to announce Andrew McKay has agreed to join the Carlton Senior Management Team and will commence in his new position in mid-November,” said Carlton CEO Greg Swan.

McKay has been working with the AFL for the last seven years and brings outstanding credentials to this role.

He has been the AFL's Game Development Manager for the past three years, as well as a member of the AFL Laws of the Game and Tribunal Review Committees. Previously he had been a member of the AFL Match Review Panel, including three years as Chairman.

Dylan Buckley Joins Blues

Dylan Buckley is one step closer to realising his dream of playing for the Blues, after the Carlton Football Club selected the young footballer at the bidding meeting for players nominated under the father/son rule at Etihad Stadium today.

Carlton is now bound to select Dylan at the 2011 NAB AFL Draft with its last available selection, to be determined once the club has finalised its selection numbers for this year’s Draft.

The only son of Carlton’s triple premiership player Jim Buckley, the 18 year old will join the Blues in season 2012 from the Northern Knights.

Murphy Breaks Judd Streak

MARC Murphy upstaged his trophy-laden Carlton skipper Chris Judd to win the John Nicholls Medal in emphatic style.

Murphy polled 678 votes to salute comfortably ahead of Judd (469) and Bryce Gibbs (448), capping a brilliant season, in front of more than 1500 guests at Crown Palladium.

The blossoming midfielder's win put an end to Judd's extraordinary run, with the former Eagle winning the best and fairest in each of his first three seasons with the Blues.

Murphy's award comes after he was judged the AFL Coaches Association champion - also pipping Judd - and was named in the All-Australian side for the first time.

He was also judged Carlton's best finals player.

Blues Appoint Paul Williams

The Carlton Football Club is pleased to announce that respected AFL assistant coach Paul Williams will join the Blues coaching panel for Season 2012.

Appointed to the new role of midfield stoppage coach, Williams spent two years as the Melbourne Football Club’s midfield coach before moving to the Western Bulldogs as an assistant coach at the end of 2008, in the role of forward line coach for two seasons and as the midfield coach in 2011.

Carlton Senior Coach Brett Ratten said the appointment was a major boost for the club.

Coaches Name Murphy Best Player

CARLTON midfielder Marc Murphy has been named the AFL's best player in the eyes of the coaches.

He won the AFL Coaches Association champion player of the year award with 94 votes, four ahead of teammate Chris Judd.

Western Bulldog captain Matthew Boyd and Hawk midfielder Sam Mitchell finished joint third with 87 votes.

Brownlow medallist and last year's winner, Collingwood's Dane Swan, finished equal fifth with Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett on 80 votes, one ahead of Magpie Scott Pendlebury.

Ratten Stands Tall As Carlton Rebound

A TALKBACK caller with Brett Ratten in his sights pointed to the number of No.1 draft picks on Carlton's list and how there had been nothing proactive from the coach's box in Perth on Saturday night.

No honour in a narrow loss in a semi-final in Perth for this Carlton supporter. It was a bold call and specific in nature. It was fundamentally flawed, too. On both counts.

Carlton's list contains three No.1 picks - Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs and Matthew Kreuzer. Both Gibbs and Kreuzer missed the semi-final against West Coast through injury.

Judd Wins Second MVP Award

CARLTON captain Chris Judd added to his already glittering trophy cabinet, winning his second AFL Players' Association MVP award.

Judd became the fifth player to claim the prestigious award twice.

The masterful midfielder was a tearaway winner, polling 1347 votes to beat Collingwood star Scott Pendlebury (456) and inaugural Gold Coast skipper Gary Ablett (389). Judd also won the best captain award.
