Walker Talks His Way Into Blues Side

ANDREW Walker will bypass the VFL and come straight into Carlton's team to play Fremantle on Friday night.

Blues coach Brett Ratten confirmed today Walker, who has not played at any level since suffering a quad injury in a pre-season match against Brisbane, would walk straight back into the line-up.

"I am glad he is back. He is bothering me, sending me texts, and coming into my office to bug me to play. He is ready to fire and he is ready to let off the leach," Ratten said.

The Blues will need to make several changes, highlighted by the loss of midfielder Anthony Carrazzo who will be out of action between 6-12 weeks.

Last night's rollicking 60-point victory against Collingwood at the MCG delivered the full array of Carlton's improved arsenal: pressure on the opposition, intensity at the ball and goalscoring delight, led by Eddie Betts
with five.

Collingwood lost key defender Ben Reid (quad) just before quarter-time with a quad injury and hard-bodied midfielder Luke Ball (knee) in the second quarter.

The Magpies were exposed after that for a lack of manpower and energy - arguably, it happened before Reid and Ball were done with for the evening.

The Blues booted 7.1 to 3.2 in the opening term.

Richmond to win an entertaining opening game by 44 points at the MCG
last night.

The Blues led by 32 points midway through the third quarter only for
the Tigers to slam on five consecutive goals and cut the deficit to a
goal shortly after three quarter time.

EDDIE Betts shows a hint of pride, even though he is casually chattering and laughing about being a role model for Carlton's indigenous players.

But Jeff Garlett and Chris Yarran won't have it.

They are constantly on the look out for ways to take their teammate down a peg.

He may be like an older brother to them, may have been a mentor over the years, but he can still expect some ridicule at every opportunity.

"He ain't no godfather, that's for sure," Garlett says in mock disgust.
