"The Blowtorch" (Blues In The News)

Quote
Carlton is a club with major issues at several levels. Its players lack fight and on-field direction. Coach Mick Malthouse has changed his tune and whatever message he’s sending now isn’t getting through. And the Blues’ administration is paying a price for having overestimated the team’s capabilities.

They are problems that won’t be solved with some magic wave of the wand. But if that tendency has perhaps been Carlton’s greatest flaw for its entire modern history, it’s still no less a danger now.

The Blues have been dogged for decades, arguably ever since Ron Barassi’s fabled arrival at Princes Park back in 1965, by a lack of patience, and an incessant search for a messiah, either on the field, in the coach’s box or at the board table, to lead them in from the wilderness.

Carlton leaders Kade Simpson and Lachie Henderson say a lack of confidence, rather than a lack of class, is the winless club's biggest problem, and that hard work is the only way to revive their morale and their season aspirations.

On Monday morning, vice-captain Simpson and Henderson, who is in his first season in Carlton's eight-man leadership group, sought to give some explanation for their team's poor form, particularly in the past fortnight, in which the Blues were smashed by Essendon and then beaten by rank underdog Melbourne.

Where the fork is Murphy? Why the fork was he appointed as captain another reason Malthouse's head needs to roll. This is a disgrace just gets worse and worse.

CARLTON is carrying “a couple of passengers” and failing to follow Mick Malthouse’s coaching instructions, according to vice-captain Kade Simpson.

The Blues cut forlorn figures as they arrived at Visy Park this morning after Saturday’s loss to Melbourne left Carlton winless from four rounds.

CARLTON could start its radical club rebuild in coming weeks with coach Mick Malthouse the only key pillar left untouched by the end of 2014.

Powerbrokers agitating for change at Carlton are predicting major turnover in the days after the Easter break following Round 5.

Some key figures are overseas in the week leading into Easter, but those calling for a major clean-out held key talks again after Sunday’s humbling loss to Melbourne.

It means the mood for change will only intensify in coming weeks, with growing momentum for the new look from influential club figures, powerbrokers and board members.

The Blues have already forecast more radical list changes this year, planning to turn over another 10 or more players.

RICHMOND has forgotten how to play but Carlton is worse — the Blues can’t play, or for some reason, they won’t play.

The Blues have issues everywhere.

The players lack confidence in themselves and each other so there is little risk in their football. There is a disconnect between the coach and the players, in the sense that Mick Malthouse’s demands are not being met.

When that happens, it is a rabble all-round.

They were insipid, the Blues, against a spirited Melbourne on Saturday, and while Malthouse is responsible for the overall team attitude, it’s the players who must take the ultimate responsibility.

It’s too easy to call for president Stephen Kernahan to step down, and the chief executive Greg Swann, for that allows the players to shift the blame. It wasn’t Kernahan and Swann who didn’t chase and didn’t tackle. They didn’t embarrass the club.

What they did was orchestrate to get Malthouse as coach, which not too long ago seemed like a pretty outstanding coaching coup.

No, the blowtorch is on all the players, none more so than Dale Thomas.

What has happened to this bloke?

If you put your hand out for a contract worth about $700,000 a season for four years, it’s best that you earn that money.

With 700 large comes a certain responsibility, more responsibility than say, Dave Ellard on $250,000 tops.

“Mick has been through all this before so he’s definitely the right man and he will have the answers for us and put some things in that we can execute,” he said.

“When Mick got to Collingwood they were in a similar situation.

“They were low and then within a few years he got them to back to back grand finals.

“He’s been through it all before, and he knows what he’s doing.”

Simpson said the team would not give in.

Absolute BS so sick of everyone saying Mick's the right man. Hello? Have you seen the result from the weekend Simmo? And then to say the team won't give in? What about the Scum game?

The Carlton Football Club is under immense pressure at the moment with many key figures at the Blues in disagreement with what should be done about their winless start to the season.

Patrick Smith from The Australian believes a full review of the club is required and the hierarchy of the whole organisation needs to be moulded into a more sufficient working structure.

“There needs to be a review when you get to zip and four to plot what has gone wrong.

“Geelong did that with Bomber Thompson, Brian Cook took a long time and reviewed the whole football department.

“Nobody really got sacked but everybody addressed the issues that were hurting the club,” said Smith on Hungry for Sport.

He points towards the inflated number of board members making decisions at Princess Park and the increasing lack of confidence in the President and CEO as big reasons why the club is in such deep trouble not long after expectations were so high.

“Bruce Mathieson is on the sidelines throwing hand grenades but he wants a bang for his buck.

“There’s pressure on Greg Swann, there’s pressure on Kernahan.

“It’s a bloated board, with nearly 12 members – you don’t find too many 12 member boards terribly dynamic.”

Patrick Smith is 100% correct when he says we need a review of the club and it's operations.

True there needs to be a review but on our terms.

The bulk of the media types leading the "Carlton in Chaos" charge are EFC boosters who have been yearning for a story to get the Bumber Scum off the front page! And in our usual good form we gave it to them!

The Carlton FC is under pressure because the pro-essadun media are piling the pressure on to divert attention away from a couple of other elephants.

We know we are crap... we just need to reconcile ourselves to ths fact and do something about  it.
DrE is no more... you ok with that harmonica man?
