Rd 6: Jim Park Voting: Carlton vs. Essendon

A late Sunday afternoon game this week. Hopefully we can do better against the drug Cheats than we did at Ikon Park earlier this year.

Remember:
[1] At least 3 players need to get a mention.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player.
[3] Give a rating of team performance. It can be anywhere from A+ to F.
[4] Votes must add up to 15.

I guess someone has to break the ice, and it may as well be me. I did enjoy todays game because we won, but it won't be remembered for the skills on show.

Team:   B
We won. We controlled the play for most of the day and our defence was very good. But we could have won by a lot more. Still, a B is a lot better than an F, which would have been on the cards if we lost to these Zeros again!

Votes:
Not an easy task this week as most players made a good contribution at some stage. Therefore there will not be enough votes to go around. However, if I take about 2 votes off everyone for incompetence around goal, then things should work out OK. 

[2]   Dale Thomas:
[2]   Bryce Gibbs
[1.5]   Marc Murphy
[1.5]   Ed Curnow
[1]   Sam Kerridge
[1]   Ciaran Byrne
[1]   Kade Simpson
[1]   Nick Graham
[1]   Matthew Wright
[1]   Sam Docherty
[0.5]   Sam Rowe
[0.5]   Lachie Plowman
[0.5]   Simon White
[0.5]   Andrew Phillips

Explanations:
[2]   Dale Thomas:   This was one of the most complete games Daisy has played for us. He got it 31 times, he had a lot of tackles and his decision making was pretty good. His kicking, alas, is never going to be what it was.
[2]   Bryce Gibbs:   Bryce Gibbs did a very good today, getting more ball than anyone else and being a part of a lot of clearances.
[1.5]   Marc Murphy:   Murphy was a bit patchier that the previous 2, but he played it out very well and got clearances when we really needed them.
[1.5]   Ed Curnow:   A really solid game from Curnow.
[1]   Sam Kerridge:   10 marks and some really solid football from Kerridge
[1]   Ciaran Byrne:   Started like a house on fire and really impressed in the air and with his run and clean kicking.
[1]   Kade Simpson:   More intercept marks than he has taken for a long time, and probably cleaner disposal than he has shown for a while.
[1]   Nick Graham:   Ordinary early, Nick really stood up after half time and managed not to waste his disposals. His tackling was good and he made good position.
[1]   Matthew Wright:   Wright tends to get less of the ball in the 2nd half, but you cannot argue with his output so far. Very solid.
[1]   Sam Docherty:   Very quiet early, Doc really came into the game and was very good when Essendon were trying to press.
[0.5]   Sam Rowe:   Took on the mantle of 31 defender and did it pretty well, even though he didn’t have much of the ball himself. His opponent was very dangerous, but in the end, had no bearing on the game at all.
[0.5]   Lachie Plowman:   Solid in defence.
[0.5]   Simon White:   Quiet early, White really played well when the game was on the line.
[0.5]   Andrew Phillips:   Beaten badly early, he really came back well and took marks and started to direct his taps better.

Honourable Mentions:
Jacob Weitering:   Not a huge game statistically, but he kept his man basically kickless while looking dangerous himself. His effort to deny Essendon a goal may cost him a week, but it showed what a player he is going to be.
Matthew Kreuzer:   Started poorly, especially in the ruck, but like Phillips, really came back strongly and started taking a few marks. Pity the kicking was ordinary.
Zac Tuohy:   Tuohy did his job very well, but was relatively quiet until it mattered. Then he stood up well.

I thought Phillips' second half and marking was a bit of a revelation today.  Sauce Mark 2
This is now the longest premiership drought in the history of the Carlton Football Club - more evidence of climate change?

Anyone notice that The Rage Player of the Round voting lists Murphy for our game and not Daisy?

I'd have said it was Murphy's weakest game of the last three, and clearly Daisy's best game since joining the club.

I suppose the weak-minded individuals at The Rage cannot bring themselves to add Daisy to the list of the names because I presume they would them be admitting they wrote him off unjustly.
