2014 Jim Park Medal - The winner is ....

Guess I have to start this off. Pity our effort was pretty lousy. I will update this file, like usual, as we go along.
Not looking forward to this week's results.

Carlton vs. Port Adelaide: not quite what we were looking for to start the year.  >:(

Votes:
Curnow, Edward 310
Ellard, David 291
Gibbs, Bryce 128
Waite, Jarrad 102
Simpson, Kade 99
Murphy, Marc 77
Jamison, Michael 48
Warnock, Robert 45
Yarran, Chris 45
Robinson, Mitch 10
Bell, Tom 10
Henderson, Lachie 6
Walker, Andrew 3

Not a huge spread of votes, nor a big spread of voters, but I am sure things will improve as we start winning games.
Next week against the Tiggers wills tell us a lot about what our season is going to be like.

Updated to show a couple of late voters. I'm hoping for a bigger response after the Richmond game, because there is always a more positive response when we win!  ;D ;D

Of course, we need to fix up a lot of problems before then, but hope springs eternal.

Round #2: Carlton vs. Richmond
Still a failure, but we really came home quite well.
Also, thank you to the voters this week. As expected, a LOT more people bothered to vote this time. Unfortunately, we still couldn't get things right!  >:D >:D

Votes:
Murphy, Marc 333
Yarran, Chris 272
Buckley, Dylan 108
Simpson, Kade 86
Curnow, Edward 72
Everitt, Andrejs 72
Jamison, Michael 67
Bell, Tom 51
Henderson, Lachie 42
Warnock, Robert 31
Lucas, Kane 4
Menzel, Troy 4
Thomas, Dale 4
Robinson, Mitch 2

Actually there was a wider spread of votes in Round 1 - 4 more people got votes against Port.
Murphy and Yarran managed most of the votes, but last week's 2nd best, David Ellard, and 3rd best, Bryce Gibbs, had shockers and were voteless.

Progressives:
399 - Murphy, Marc (0)
392 - Curnow, Edward (0)
313 - Yarran, Chris (0)
287 - Ellard, David (0)
182 - Simpson, Kade (0)
148 - Gibbs, Bryce (0)
109 - Jamison, Michael (0)
108 - Buckley, Dylan (0)
99 - Waite, Jarrad (0)
72 - Everitt, Andrejs (0)
57 - Bell, Tom (0)
52 - Warnock, Robert (0)
48 - Henderson, Lachie (0)
11 - Robinson, Mitch (0)
5 - Lucas, Kane (0)
5 - Menzel, Troy (0)
5 - Thomas, Dale (0)
3 - Walker, Andrew (0)

Of interest was the way the votes changed on the spreadsheet - I'm always finding something different.

Seriously, it is close at the top between Murphy, Curnow, Yarran and Ellard. It will be interesting to see who can keep up the momentum.

Carlton vs. Essendon: Round 3 Misery:
Seriously this was one of our poorest efforts at a time where something else was really required. You can tell from the number of voters: 12. A couple of usual suspects commented that things were too bad to give votes, while others voted with their feet.
Hopefully this week will give us more pleasant thoughts and better things to vote for.

Another little statistic: this game had the lowest rating of any game since I started  doing the voting. And it would have been much lower of some people had actually rated their votes. That says a lot.

Votes:
Menzel, Troy 198
Gibbs, Bryce 185
Simpson, Kade 137
Murphy, Marc 117
Walker, Andrew 66
Carrazzo, Andrew 56
Henderson, Lachie 41
Jamison, Michael 30
Buckley, Dylan 30
Bell, Tom 20
Rowe, Sam 18
Warnock, Robert 8
Waite, Jarrad 5
Robinson, Mitch 3

I was quite surprised that Menzel ended up topping the votes, and that Lachie Henderson managed 41 was amazing. However, that was how they came out. It shows how ordinary we were.

Progressives:
516 - Murphy, Marc (0)
392 - Curnow, Edward (0)

Carlton vs. Melbourne - Round 4 Misery:
Truly an embarrassment to everyone involved. We did as poorly as any Carlton team this century, after a pretty good 1st quarter.
As a result, we didn't get a lot of voting. Only 8 people voted. That says more than anything about the dissatisfaction with the game.
I can understand that. However, it was pretty ordinary.

Votes for this game:
Simpson, Kade 234
Yarran, Chris 176
Curnow, Edward 157
Buckley, Dylan 48

Carlton vs. Western Bulldogs: Round 5 Celebrations!
At last, a win. Pity I didn't see any of it. We did pay the price: Judd, Bell, Curnow and Ellard now lost to injury. However, a win is much better than a loss.
We had 12 voters this week, 50% up from last week. Hopefully there will be more people voting again in the weeks to come.

Votes:
Murphy, Marc 339
Henderson, Lachie 327
Warnock, Robert 199

13 - Robinson, Mitch (0)
10 - Casboult, Levi (0)
5 - Thomas, Dale (0)

There was an extremely small spread of vote getters this week. Was that my fault? I couldn't vote realistically as I didn't see the game, but I do often spread the votes around.

A bigger spread of votes this week: a pretty good effort all-round. However, Murphy was clearly the choice of BOG. It has been pretty close at the top, but this effort should give Murph a decent lead for a little while.

The Blues have a good win, but it could have been a lot better. I guess it shows just how far off being a top 4 team we still are at the moment.
However, we managed to have a lot of contributors and a back line that worked well.
