Personally I'd like us to use the vfl for two reasons.

1. Development of our AFL level talent to help them learn what roles they need to be able to perform in the seniors.

2. Talent identification based on players who failed to get drafted.  Bring them into our vfl environment and if they show the right stuff get them to our club in future.

Some interesting player assessments from the coach:

Quote

12. Blaine Boekhorst
Stats: 24 disposals, 8 inside 50s, 6 clearances
From the coach: Blaine provided some really important offensive run and played a variety of roles. He had some really pleasing contests at different times but there were also some areas where he needs to improve, which he continues to work on.

31. Jayden Foster
Stats: 11 disposals, 5 marks
From the coach: In patches, he positioned himself and defended really well on his direct opponent. There were a few times he lost concentration and communication with the other defenders which caused him to be beaten on the lead.

34. Jesse Glass-McCasker
Stats: 6 disposals, 3 marks
From the coach: Similar to ‘Foz’, he had some good examples of defending well but wasn’t able to be consistent. He showed some pleasing aggression at different stages through his spoils and ability to impact in the air.

38. Bill Gowers
Stats: 12 disposals, 6 marks
From the coach: He provided some run and dash off half back and generally used it well. He needs to be diligent in staying engaged in his role as a defender when the ball is out of area.

48. Kristian Jaksch
Stats: 16 disposals, 4 marks
From the coach: He was down on what we’ve come to expect, where he misread the ball in flight and had a couple of poor aerial contests. He wasn’t able to reset on the day.

80. Matthew Korcheck
Stats: 2 disposals, 16 hitouts
From the coach: Korcheck competed admirably in the ruck against Meese but wasn’t able to impact as much as he has with follow-up and taking marks going forward. He’s still looking to add that part to his game more consistently.

19. Harry McKay
Stats: 9 disposals, 6 marks, 1 goal
From the coach: Harry showed some patches and took some really good learning out of the game as he builds fitness and form. I thought he took a step forward with his movement patterns and ability to get into marking positions and contest in the air.

76. Jason Tutt
Stats: 32 disposals, 6 marks, 6 inside 50s, 4 clearances
From the coach: He provided good run as he always does and found plenty of the ball, and also had some really important one-on-one contests. Later in the game that impact fell away in the contest but generally his effort was really strong.

65. Dillon Viojo-Rainbow
Stats: 10 disposals, 4 marks, 3 inside 50s
From the coach: Dillon played as an inside midfielder and positioned himself well, but wasn’t quite able to impact the game by way of winning the ball. He showed some really good offensive running patterns at different stages forward of the ball.

36. Cameron Wood
Stats: 6 disposals, 4 tackles, 23 hitouts
From the coach: His effort was really strong in the first half and he competed well around the ground, but faded later in the game. He largely set the tone early for his on-ballers.

Apart from Boekhorst and McKay, who will still be around in 2017?

I'd say Glass-McCasker, Gowers and Korchek.

It depends.

If our club sees enough they might persist with skittles.

I reckon two years isn't enough time for some play.

His second year was better than his first.

True Thry.  Skittles was playing some decent footy midway through the season.  I guess it will depend on whether SOS, Bolton and Fraser think that was his peak or whether he can improve on that and play consistently good footy.

Some on this site will read that as 'KJ had another good day for the NBs, must be due for a call up!!'

According to the "other" forum, Jaksch is contracted in 2017, so will be staying.

Will need to pull the finger out though.
I spent most of my money on Women and grog.
The rest I just wasted.

Translation....Picks and chooses when he goes for the footy and isnt hard enough often enough...

Translation: Didnt put the body on the line in the marking duels and pulled out of marking contests....I couldnt get him to play in front and take a hit for the team.his heart isnt in it..

Translation: Looks good when he gets it but doesnt win enough footy, worked hard running forward.....forget to say he did nothing the other way...

Got the tools to be a good player but has been watching  too much of Zac Touhy and thinks he doesnt need to mind a man....

God, I wish those comments were not so close to the mark. Nice translations.

Actually failed to get to many marking contests and his stats flatter him because he padded them by playing on when taking the kick-in after a behind was scored.
