Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2020 Rd 5: Carlton vs St. Kilda
Look there were some horrible, horrible aspects to the game (H, Gov & Levi, along with the zero tackles stat, along with some terrible turnovers), but I am not as concerned with it as some

Aside from the first Q and a bit - where absolutely EVERYTHING went right for the Saints (all coaching moves came off, all bounces went their way, none of the front running was hurt the other way, EVERY free/50/downfield went their way), we easily won the rest of the game - just couldnt hurt them on the scoreboard.  Now, maybe this was just further evidence that we can win when the heat is out of the game - not sure

We do need to sort out what to do when Cripps is taken out - but we also need to have the AFL look into why he is allowed to be mauled at every stoppage.

I just wonder whether blokes like Fisher and Setterfield are those in between VFL and AFL types. That is, too good for VFL, not good enough for AFL.

Justin Murphy has to be the all time clubhouse leader in this - you'd watch him in the 2s, and think he was a cross between Chris Judd and Craig Bradley, then he would give donughts in the 1s.

Fisher had that good year 2 years ago when he was played in the guts, then struggled last year with a new role and injuries - im hoping he will develop into a valuable hff/wing.  Setters is still very early in his development, and (outside a few freaks), inside mids take a while - hoping he will be a solid contibutor

Our three big forwards need to sort out a system.

Harry looked rusty, the Guv just stuffs up too much presently.

Our forward 6 looked squashed up, there was no space....plenty of talent there but wasn't working at all yesterday.

Won the I50 count easily....

Everyone knows we should have won that game yesterday, even after Q1.

It's on out leadership group to step up. That where tight games get won....

Cripps can't do it every week.

Weiters was very, very good.

Harry started well, then Dees switched to going the body on him and he barely got another kick.  If umps treated him the same way they treated Gawn, he would have had 15 frees

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2020 SEASON SUSPENDED
About a month ago, the entire Dees list was, pretty full on, training at Sorrento FC..... no reports have surfaced (their players are obviously better at keeping the lid on)…  I wonder how many other clubs have been doing covert stuff

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2020 SEASON SUSPENDED
One of the NRL head honchos quoted a stat that a player was 10,000 to 1 to get Covid.

Now, Im no statistician - but - apply that to 500 players, plus prob the same number of coaches and officials  (1,000 people involved in a potential re-start)…….  doesn't that mean the odds are 10 to 1  that someone will get infected (which, I imagine would lead to the comp being shut down again)??

those are pretty skinny odds that you isolate a whole community, away from their families, and then it doesn't actually work

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: The Last Dance
I have been watching "The Last Dance" the Michael Jordan doco series on Netflix and comparing it to what we see at Carlton.  Their attitude and self belief is compelling in building The Chicago Bulls basketball team.

In one season Jordan (and Pittman) were being physically smashed.  The Bulls realised that they need a physical "gangster" to protect their talent - so enter the "scary" Dennis Rodman.  Looking at the Judd period (and through to Cripps) we needed the same toughness to look after our elite - so we give Mitch Robinson his marching orders (he is exactly they type of player we need in our centre lineup with Cripps)...

Bring on some attitude!!

100% agree with your premise - most great teams have some mongrel, and we are lacking!

But, just to clarify the timeline;
- bulls got beaten up by the pistons in 88-90
- offseason prior to 90/91 season Jordan starts hitting the weight room
- 91 the bulls beat the pistons and overcome the bully on the way to first 3 rings
- Rodman doesn’t join until the 2nd 3peat (95/96 - 97/98)

The bulls had long ago pushed the bully pistons aside, before Rodman joined

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Why will we improve?
Agree with the list profile getting older being a plus BUT...

We seriously need improvement from some individuals playing midfield time:
Setterfield
Kennedy
SPS
Jack
Dow
Fisher
OBrien
Cunningham

Amen
This is where the season will be won/lost
If one or two of them (Setters and SPS??) can turn into stars, and the rest turn into really good reliable players, then we could be anything
