Judith Durham....an Australian icon

Sad to hear of the death of Judith Durham, lead singer of the Seekers. She was the 'sound' of the Seekers in the  60s that conquered the UK market and made the group a household name in Oz. Every time they had a reunion tour, they packed them out, and delivered every time. An icon of the Australian music scene has passed on....The Carnival is Over.

Keep in mind The Seekers had four million selling singles and hit the top of the charts at a time that was dominated by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who...etc.

Not bad for folk singing group playing in Melbourne cafes only months earlier.

This will be massive news in England where they still have a ridiculous following.

My late neighbour played in a trio with Judith before the Seekers.  He told me that she was a lovely person who was great to perform with.

She really had a great voice!

She did really have a wonderful voice. Originally a jazz singer apparently.

Very sad news.
