Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2017 Round 4 : Pre Game thread - Carlton V Gold Coast
In regards to Fischer we've heard the same thing about lightweight / skinny players over and over again. Blokes like Hunter, Flower, Camporeale and Simpson were all too small to make it at AFL level apparently!

You have to be big and strong with mature AFL ready bodies like Matthew Watson, Aisake O'hAilpin, Rob Warnock, Paul Bower or Kane Lucas! ;)

My only concern picking so many kids, is that we have too many kids and no guardians!

Completely agree. In regards to playing too many kids, I completely understand but who are our guardians really? I mean our captain and other leaders still need guardians for themselves to be honest.

Not sure a kid 68kg will be given the task of providing Cripps with a chop out.  He's more 'see ball, get ball, take 'me on, then deliver!'.

Exactly I see him in the mould of Isaac Smith or Gaff. I would love him to just develop into a powerhouse runner especially like Smith and just deliver.

Everyone will talk about his size but he has smarts to cover that I think and be really effective on the outside.

What a win. The poise shown by Williamson on debut in that weather and intensity was immensly impressive. I had him pencilled in as one to watch when we drafted. I think Bolton has Macreadie and Williamson earmarked as our future Stratton and Birchall respectively.

SPS also showing signs of what he will do once he puts on a bit more muscle and builds a serios tank. Hats off to Rowe again playing another solid game. That backline depth is something really positive now.

Wonder if Rowe will play on J Daniher or will Weitering move back to defence?

I think Rowe deserves first crack, he has been solid. Don't want to send a message to them that we are worried and need Weitering back either just from a mindset thing at the start.

In general though I am torn, Weitering with a developing McKay has great potential as a forward duo but as a defender our backline is pretty much ready and set. Perfect world Kerr comes on and Weitering can move back but who knows. Just hope Cripps pulls, it will be a massive loss if we don't have him.

Fisher, Cunningham and McKay. That's who I would be looking to bring in if any that's the future. The likes of Kerridge and Boekhorst are no better than what we have and not the future. We are already turning it over enough, and then people will be calling for them to be dropped in 2 weeks anyway.

Worrying signs are coming from the senior players, hack kicks, still don't kow how to kick to advantage, Murph hospital balls to teammates while the young guys are showing a bit.

Loved Rowe's game and Cripps', Macreadie is showing a bit and looks like there is something there. Like SPS and Pickett as well.

Really interested to see how Weitering goes against this backline compared to last week when he had a AA full back to deal with. I always wanted us to make him a general CHB type but if he can become a serious forward then the benefit to us is far greater if he becomes a top CHF.

Pretty happy with the team and think it is as good a team as we are going to see lineup this year.

Thomas will keep getting games unfortunately but feel for Cunningham. Glad to see Kerridge not make the cut as I think he is an athlete and nothing else, terrible game sense and skills and a depth player at best so glad others have gone past him.

Really like Smedts, Pickett, SPS and Armfield in there together providing some toe on the wings and high half forward.

I also like Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman and Rowe back. I don't think its too tall as Rowe and Marchbank can play the key lock down roles, let Weitering play on some hack and intercept and control the game from back there and Plowman to play on a 3rd tall type and not be undersized like he was a lot last year.

Lamb I don't mind getting a game as he gets goals and we just dont get enough. I like the mix of White, Silvagni and Curnow up forward with Casboult occupying Rance. I definitely think we are a chance and probaly be a close game.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Where do you think Carlton will finish in 2017?
I fear somewhere down the bottom. I just hope that we make the most of it and blood a lot of young kids with the right amount experience and support around them. Really hope some of these kids go past guys like Kerridge who are not the future and just keep hacking it up.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Talking Tactics - Our Forward Structure In 2017
Our forward structure is about getting as many games into McKay, Kerr, Silvagni and Curnow (half forward/mid) as possible. That is our future up forward and the sooner we come to terms with it the better I feel. Really interested in seeing how some of our new smalls go as well.

Not much that surprised, game went as expected.

Midfield depth and pace around there is a real worry, and is priority in my opinion. That doesn't mean throwing pacy players around the fringes who need it dished out to them. It's more about players who win their own and can move quickly away. Docherty is a classic example hit can hit the ball at pace win it and move quickly. I would love him in the midfield but love him where is now as well.

Kerridge is another who is a good athlete does a lot of things well enough but is a bottom 6 player and not someone who I think very highly of. Wright at the moment has been the better pick up from the Crows. Just looking forward to seeing Curnow, McKay, Silvagni and Jacksh from here on in.

Symbolically though that performance was Gibbs' career in a nutshell on his 200th.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 12: Post Game Purgatory: Carlton vs St. Kilda
Was not surprised at all after last week against Brisbane as we were just as bad then but the lions were just worse. Saints were geared up for this match all week while we looked like we already have one eye on the break.

We will hit rough patches as the honey moon period and hype fizzle out but the test will be to hang tough for the rest of the season.

Bolts got schooled a bit by Richardson in the coaching and tactics stakes but will learn from it. Doc stood up again even when the team was poor which was a great sign.
