Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 3: Carlton vs Gold Coast: Post Game Pain
heard a bit of the radio commentary at half time - we were apparently kicking it long and high into our forward line, where Cas was the only target against 2+ Suns players.  They forgot to add the bit at the bottom - doing it since 2002.

I see the forward line as the biggest issue, as that where the reward for effort should come, but at the moment it isn't coming at all.  When the reward is there, confidence spreads and everything seems to improve.

F1 is an interesting political beast.  I hear they are reverting to the previous format for the next race ate some complaints...

Good idea, but needs adjusting to allow completion of a lap or a longer elimination time   From the pits to do an out lap and complete a timed is about 3mins.  This means that the second last team may need to pit before they know they are that close to elimination.

Without adjustment it is just musical chairs at a 5yo birthday party

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2016 - Rnd 1 Carlton vs Richmond
I used to do a  blind tipping comp, where the season was tipped before round 1.  Always got a better result than a traditional tipping comp.  Head over heart and could set ground rules and follow them.

I see this game as a head and heart matter.   Love to win it, but surely the expectation of doing so is very low.  We have to have improved on last season and Richmond got worse.  This may have happened, but not by enough.

I don't see how we can kick enough goals or defend or goals well enough, unfortunately.

What is it about retired (mainly) sports people bagging other retired sports people, generally ex team mates or coaches?

I wish they didn't rely on book sales and crap shows for more $$, when they should just learn to disappear gracefully. Edit: Or if they want to stay in the spotlight,  do something good

The Sports Desk / Re: Stosur vs Sheik 2015
I get the feeling that Stosur is an athlete who happens to play tennis.  She loses far too many matches that she shouldn't for a tennis player who is a great athlete as well.  There are too many times where she doesn't look comfortable on the court.

I think that she is great in fronting up to the media and being reasonably honest after some of the horrible losses, unlike spoiled brats eg Venus

The Sports Desk / Re: Australian Cricket - Crisis, What Crisis ??
The big difference is that 20/20 is entertainment that happens to be cricket and the commentary reflects that really well- it doesn't matter if the aren't 45 replays of one ball,  or that they don't always talk about what we can obviously see.   Test cricket is a game first and entertainment second, with the commentary being neither.

I don't know if I could listen to 6 hours of 20/20 commentary on a test match, but I do know I can't listen to the current ch 9 efforts.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Star Wars - SPOILERS
I'm with back couple of others,  but have never watched a full Star Wars film, however,  my Mrs loves them.

Saw the new one today with her.  It was okay - better than expected,  few references I got and probably heaps I missed.

Certainly not going back to watch the previous 6....

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Liberal Leadership Challenge
I think it shows an absolute lack of ability to have a vision for Australia, communicate it and take us along for the ride as opposed to short sighted self interested stuff that we're given.

Because there is no grand vision, all the irrelevant rubbish is given to us, including total lack of respect for the PM from journalists.  It also leads to a dysfunctional  Parliament, as every issue can be made a big deal of due to a lack of cohesion.

As soon as there is an actual leader,  the better off the country will be and the better the opposition party will have to be, improving the overall quality of politics.  I am not sure if it really matters which side the leader comes from.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 19 Post Game thread - Blues V Pies
Terrible first half (that's all I watched).  Hoping someone can clarify deliberately OOB.  End of second qtr, from a boundary throw in Krooz hit it back over the line, but it bounced.  I thought it had to be back on the full from a throw in to be deliberate.  Earlier C'wood player with close to zero pressure knocked the ball out of bounds (maybe using both fists) it was a throw in.

Maybe this all goes in the who knows basket to annoy fans.

Might watch the second half to see if it was improved effort from us,  decreased effort from them or a better standard.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 15 Post Game Thread - Blues v Tigers
I think that we are actually starting to get a true feel of how good/bad our list is, as they are now, as a group, obviously trying.

The next step is to grow the depth of the club, as we are showed up when our best 22 aren't around - no club ever has them all available.

Tonight, as per the last few weeks, effort and endeavour have generally been fine.  Skills and decision making on the other hand...

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Why So Different??
Malthouse identified it on SEN on Friday - have a game plan that suits the players, which must include allowing them to play footy.

I would think that is what you want to do - coach to your team strengths.  Easier to improve strengths as that is where people are happy and confident, rather than working hard on weaknesses,  which people don't enjoy at the expense of their strengths.

Pity he couldn't adapt to his own view.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rnd 6 Carlton v Brisbane-post mortem
My sympathies to those who went to watch today.  What a very ordinary game of footy.

Zero confidence within the 'team' at the moment.  Nothing intuitive going on.  Is there a stat on hail Mary kicks?  We have to be #1 with them and #1 again for how many go straight to the opposition.

For those who backed the blues into $1.28 - no sympathy at all, although you are obviously optimistic.
