The Sports Desk / Re: Jarryd Hayne
Well he started off being a blocker, but everyone was picked up and the QB was flushed, so he eventually decided to run down field, he never even got a chance to get to the first down line before the QB dished it to him. He didn't stop short, he just never got there. Unfair criticism IMO.
You can view the play from here - http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2015122705/2015/REG16/49ers@lions?icampaign=GamePass_ScoreStrip_watch#menu=gamepass&tab=recap - it is the next video along scroll right (with Hayne #38 shown).

Should he have left his blocking assignment (or lack of) earlier? Possibly, but its better than leavin too soon and the QB gets sacked.

The QB washed flushed because Hayne completely missed his assignment.
Hayne then ran to a pointless position which contributed nothing to the teams efforts to achieve a 1st down.
Criticism entirely justified IMHO.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: The Next Incarnation Of Our "Engine Room"
Thomas needs to be doing the finishing IMO....I dont expect 30 possies a game anymore from him but 10-15 with 2-3 goals is what I want for my money...
Kruezer's ruckwork is nothing special and I thought Lobbe beat him and Wood easily but MK can get the footy at ground level and get his big body in the
action and as you suggest can he can help Cripps, Graham etc get us first use...

Why would you ever expect 30 possies a game from him? He has only achieved that 8 times in his entire career.
And where are the 2-3 goals going to come from? The rest of the team gonna spoon-feed him the ball <30m from goal?
We were never going to get value for $$ out of the guy, best we can hope is that his performances warrant his selection in the side consistently.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Ban the Drones
I saw a story on the news within the last week about the fire brigade seeking to use these for various well intentioned reasons (none of which I saw a problem with) but at the end of the piece the reporter stated they were seeking permission to use drones to enter buildings and in the same breath said the police were hoping to do the same on the back of the Firies getting the go-ahead.
This is how this stuff works and my biggest worry, the cops know they wouldn't be granted this due to privacy laws so they just piggyback on the Fire Brigade proposal which will result in the general public having more of the little privacy/freedom we have left taken away. They are doing the same in regards to metadata storage, they want it stored for 2 years and to be made available to them (WITHOUT WARRANT!!) upon request and are using the "scourge" of piracy to achieve this.
As usual the complacent Australian public will ignore it until they are directly effected by these encroachments on our basic rights as citizens of a democratic nation and by then it will be too late to go back.
At the risk of sounding like a tin-foil hat wearer, that is not a society I want to be a part of and I am already making plans to be "off the grid" by the time Big Brother becomes omnipresent.

The Sports Desk / Re: 2014 World Cup.
Hey guys, soccer noob here.
Can anyone suggest an underdog nation (with at least a sneaky chance of an upset or two) to follow now that the Aussies will not be progressing?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: R1 Carlton vs Power After-match Aftermath
if we play either WB or GWS next week
we'd get flogged.
We have gone backwards hard - its official

So, given that Malthouse has said we can't challenge for a flag in his current contract, do we sack him now, start a full blown rebuild or both?

what i'd hate is he coaches at the expense of development and for a contract extension

Seems to be what he's trying to do but can't even get that right. Last year was a complete waste and this year will be no different. I can't remember the last time I cared less about a loss than I do about this one.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rate Your Enthusiasm Level For Season 2014
I will wait to pass judgement further but Richmond are a team not playing for each other and it shows.  Undisciplined, playing for free kicks and whinging a lot.  Prestia and Swallow ran amock whilst Gablett had numerous opponents that couldnt touch him.

Go ahead and pass judgement Thry, Richmond are completely devoid of the on field leadership, mental fortitude and elite skill levels required to achieve anything significant. Will struggle to make finals this year as they start to realise that their best is nowhere near good enough.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: "Whip It, Whip It Good" - Who Is Your 2014 Whipping Boy ??
Mick Malthouse is my whipping boy until he brings us a flag. Ended our streak against the Tiges in his first match as coach by having the boys play an outdated game plan that was never going to work with our list anyway. Persisted with said plan for the better part of the season. I knew the plan would not work before it was even implemented, why didn't he? Not one genuinely impressive win for the entire 2013 season, grace period is over, deliver or GTFO!!!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Our Horrible Hitmen
Good call there Thry re Gibbs. He found an inner predator-mode at times and seemed to relish cleaning blokes up on the couple of occasions I recall it happening. First time I have noticed that type of attitude from the Gibber since he came to the club.
