Robert Heatley Stand / Bolton "Kreuzer led the way"
http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2016-05-15/bolton-kreuzer-led-the-way

Bolton said Kreuzer's ability to keep fighting was essential to his side notching up its fourth consecutive victory.

"I've always been one for (the idea that) big blokes, when they lead by the way they play, others follow," Bolton said.

"Others were following (Kreuzer)."

Clearance specialist Patrick Cripps was similarly influential. He collected 30 disposals and won eight clearances.

He too went down to the rooms after appearing to buckle his right knee late in the third quarter, but fought on.

Bolton was unaware about the nature of the injury but said Cripps thrived in adversity.

"Farm lad, finds a way. Rolls his sleeves up," he said.

Robert Heatley Stand / Player free by 2018

THE Carlton Football Club says it’s confident it will have no players by season 2018 as its ‘Player Zero’ strategy picks up pace.

“We’re working really hard to ensure we have no players by 2018 and this trade period shows we’re well on track,” said Carlton CEO Steven Trigg.

“Players are expensive, troublesome and require constant feeding. Draft picks are much easier to manage.

“Having zero players also cuts down on our carbon emissions and everyone knows how much we care about the environment at the Blues.”

Quote
Mr Trigg said Carlton were confident of still being able to keep up their on field performances with no players.
“Really, who would notice? You can finish 18th with or without players to be honest.”

It’s believed that there are elements within Carlton who are less than happy with the ‘Player Zero Strategy’.

“I may be old fashioned in my thinking but I think players are kind of essential to a football team,” said new Carlton coach Brendon Bolton.

“At Hawthorn we had lots of players and a lot of them were also really good at football.

“That was sort of the model I was hoping to replicate here but now it seems unlikely.”

Mr Trigg said the first stage of the ‘Player Zero’ strategy had been to trade away every good player.

“That’s coming to an end now but I want to acknowledge the work of my predecessors.”

“There’s just a few to go. I’m just about to ring around to see if anyone wants Patrick Cripps for a third-round pick.”

When asked if Carlton members and fans should be upset with the trading away of good players, Mr Trigg said they were ‘not a key stakeholder in the process’.

Other clubs have applauded Carlton’s approach. “Every time they ring it’s like Christmas,” said Adelaide CEO Andrew Fagan.

Headliners:

None

Support cast:

Lachie Henderson

Dale Thomas

Levi Casboult

Tom Bell

Liam Jones

Jason Tutt

Understudies:

Troy Menzel

Blaine Johnson

Extras:

David Ellard

Dennis Armfield

Verdict: Need Menzel and Casboult to up the ante and Henderson to work on his consistency to be any chance of kicking winning scores in 2015. Thomas is going as well as ever by all reports while new surrounds could kick enigmatic former Bulldog Jones into gear. In short, the Blues need a lot to go right.

Robert Heatley Stand / Suns accuse Carrazzo of kneeing
http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/andrew-carrazzo-accused-of-kneeing-michael-rischitelli-by-gold-coast-suns-on-saturday/story-fndv8hfz-1227020943049

THE Gold Coast Suns are fuming over an off-the-ball kneeing incident from Carlton’s Andrew Carrazzo that forced veteran Michael Rischitelli to be subbed out of Saturday’s game and has him in doubt to take on Port Adelaide this weekend.

The match review panel last night suspended Hawthorn’s Coleman medal leader Jarryd Roughead for one match for tripping Melbourne’s Dom Tyson – but found Carrazzo had no case to answer for the knee to Rischitelli’s hip that left the Gold Coast vice-captain still hobbling yesterday and expected to be unable to train all week.
AFL spokesman Patrick Keane confirmed the panel had looked into the incident but did not believe an offence had been committed.
The incident was spotted by several Suns interchange and bench officials who were furious and sparked a boundary side blow-up in which Rischitelli hurled abuse at Carrazzo.

He is believed to have accused the Blues tagger of a dog act and was forcibly restrained by an interchange official.
Rischitelli was assigned a tagging job on Blues captain Marc Murphy. The game was just minutes old when Carrazzo, in a crude blocking attempt well off the ball, ran across Rischitelli’s path and kneed him in the hip.

Robert Heatley Stand / Yarran blames complacency for poor start
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/carlton-speedster-chris-yarran-says-blues-out-to-revive-their-season-after-sloppy-start/story-fni5f5nx-1226913787132

Quote
CARLTON speedster Chris Yarran has blamed complacency for early-season failures as the Blues face a finals eliminator against bogy side St Kilda.

The Saints are gunning for third successive Monday night upset win over the Blues, who are staring at a 2-6 start if they lose tonight.

In a candid assessment of the team’s poor starts, Yarran said the Blues’ attitude had hurt them.

“We didn’t turn up (with) the right attitude against Melbourne, we just assumed we would go out there and win and got our pants pulled down,” Yarran told the Herald Sun.

“Same with Essendon and Collingwood. I just don’t know how it happens. We just have to avoid bad starts.

“We have to win against St Kilda and give ourselves some momentum going into the break. Sometimes we play better when we are up against the ropes.”

Carlton refused to give up on its September aspirations, hopeful the team’s fortunes will improve as key players regain fitness following an injury-marred off-season.

Assistant coach Dean Laidley yesterday revealed he was “taken aback” by the 18 off-season surgeries to key players.

“That’s really hurt us,” Laidley said on 3AW.

“We didn’t have a lot of players doing a lot of work preseason. They are starting to get match hardened now.”

Robert Heatley Stand / Rd23 v Port Adelaide.
Doesn't feel like we're playing for a finals birth but that's the reality of the situation. Win and we're in. I think we're a good chance with Port having nothing to play for.

Robert Heatley Stand / Brettie's Kiss of Death
Saints by 5 goals.....there's no more certain result this coming weekend. Saints supporters don't rate their team either, but they do against us....and with some justification too.

Riewoldt will kick a lazy 4 at least, Kosi & Milne 3 apiece, Milera will play one of his 2 good games of the year, Saad will come in and kick at least 2, Hayes a lazy 35+ possessions, Dal Santo a lazy 30+, Farren Ray will look magnificent, Jack Steven will run around like a Stawell Gift winner, Rhys Stanley will single handily fend off our forward talls, McEvoy will take 10+ contested marks everywhere, Clint Jones keep Murphy to about 10 possessions......and on and on and on it goes......

Result Carlton win

Surely another big Friday night game = another disappoitning loss.....why change the trend now?! :'(

Result Carlton win

I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate Charlie Dixon on a career-best game tomorrow; assuming he's got Jamo on him......

Result Carlton win

I'm not going to be confident until Brettie gives Freo the kiss of death.

Sorry mbb.....I've got nothing but good feelings about this week. Win this and we make the 8 on merit......very good feelings......

Result Carlton loss

Bulldogs game Brettstar made no prediction.

Result Carlton loss.

Totally agree PI2C - this is the first time in many, many years whereby we're playing a Richmond team that is CLEARLY better than us.....and substantially so. Anyone who even considers us to be a chance, simply based on recent past performances, you're simply not being realistic in any way, shape or form. I like the changes Mick has made considering the injuries, really like them, but it still won't change the fact that the Tigers are on a totally different level to us in ability, development & confidence. It could get real ugly tomorrow....expect Hendo to return to defence, seeing as Jamo continues his spud-like form.

Result Carlton win.

Essendon game no prediction made

Result Carlton Loss

No interest in this game whatsoever, pretty sure another loss is coming, hoping like hell the Roos get over the line, then the finals get interesting....and that's how it should be. Any other scenario (i.e. us participating in September) makes our elimination final a joke.

Maddd! Richmond at the G, with Juddy it was meant to be!

Friggin' delusional.....

Result Carlton win and make the finals.

Bit of an article on Steve Morris of Richmond in the Sun today and its details his work on opposing small forwards...Eddie in two games only managed 18 disposals and 1 goal on Morris. Not good enough for a man wanting 600k a year and Eddie needs to deliver on Sunday for us to win...

In what will most probably be his last ever appearance in Navy Blue......

Result Carlton win and Betts stars.
