Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2018 Rd 15: Pre Game Pressure: Carlton vs Port Adelaide
Disagree about Dow, 9 poss and 2 bloody great tackles in the last quarter. He may have slowed down but he kept going.

Again both these guys are 18 and will have a full seasons experience come round 23, they are still years away from hitting their best.

I do look forward to a starting square of Cripps, Kennedy and Dow, with O'Brien on one wing, SPS on the other, kicking it down the necks of Charlie, Lokosuis and Harry with Fisher and Pickett yapping away at heir feet.

x2...Polson and OBrien would make a good footballer if you could morph them together.....
I think Polson deserves a few games and told he is the team and maybe just needs that breakout game of 20 plus possies to kick start him..
Tough ask vs Port though given their onball riches but vs Brisbane and the like he might have learned something by then and deliver for us..
Obrien needs to toughen up and attack the ball better, nice left footer but more grunt required....

EB, you've been banging on about O'Brien and how he needs to toughen up, the kid has a boys body and obviously is aware of that, but there are different classes of toughness. I think it was Grundy who took a screamer on O'Brien knocking him flat, O'Brien got up off the ground straight away and started to chase, that's a tough mind, he just doesn't have the physical size to plow into packs, it will come in time.

If we were a better team he would be still playing 2's, learning how to play against me, but we're not and Lachie is getting a game and doing ok. At least he runs hard both ways.

Also Poulson looked to be knocked out early in the first, he dragged himself off the ground, waived the trainers away and chased, well done young man.

O'Shea, should never be allowed to play for Carlton again. I know Williamson can't play but he would have been the match up for Stevenson if not injured and we stop an avenue to goal.

Mullet did one good thing for the game and that was it.

Poulson, did not understand why he was resigned, however liked his toughness as he appear to be knocked out early in the game, he got up and staggered a bit, next couple of minutes he's chasing and tackling with intent. While he's not good around the ball yet at this level, I did like the attack on the man, it gives him a a starting place for next week.

Garlett, I so want him to be better. Started the game off better but still doesn't run hard enough to make up ground when chasing and I've seen the speed before. He needs to run like there is no tomorrow and basically die as he has a rest, then recover and go again.

Dow, he gets tougher each game, great feel around the contest and disposal is getting better, that tackle on Pendlebury at the end of the game was very nice, locked the wrist and didn't let go. If he's doing that at 18 then again a few more seasons and look out. I noticed him cruising behind Treloar in the second and that was highlighted by the commentators. I thought they were lining up to give him a whack, but the explained that what the difference between 7 per seasons and 1, well really is half, as the rookies come late and they are on a modified program.

SPS, I notice that some are saying he wants to play bruise free footy, ... I must be watching a different game, he goes in and gets the ball when needed to but today we had Cripps and Kennedy as well as Jack around the ball, he still went through when it was his turn and there is a difference from not wanting to be hurt to trying to evade the opposition.

Kennedy, first half he was going full on much the same as his first half anaginst Richmond, then he looked stuffed which is understandable in the second half. Very happy to see Matt up and going.

Charlie, jet, gun, outstanding.

Cripps see above.

Rowe, I feel for poor Sam, again the poor commentators were comparing him to Grundy saying he can't go with him, well no sh1t sherlock, he's a big, wrestling backman against a ruckman who's in his prime and in form and due to injuries has to move to Full Forward then into the ruck where his back up was Jack.

Fisher, typical game, I want to see a few variations to his game now, we all know he can go and get it inside then sweep to his left, this will be caught soon, and while that blind turn was very nice looking at his size it will be held more often than not. I just want to see a baulk to the left then a cut inside on the right opening up the field a bit more.

This needs to be our minimum effort all the time, attack on the ball and player were probably the best all year, more changes next week with Plowman and Kruezer out means we have to face Ryder with Phillips and Gray without a proper match up either and probably no Daisy as well. Does not bode well for Simmos 300th.

Bruise free footy yet again, but what do you expect when the players you have in prime mover positions are SPS, Fisher, Dow & O'Brien. All light weights who are unable to put any physical pressure on seasoned players.

Kerridge missed his foot 3 times when trying to kick, Casboult let several player waltz away from him, Cripps will only run one way has very little interest in chasing a player, Wright is unable to chase, Ed Curnow was putrid in the first half, as was Rowe, nice dropped mark that gave them an easy goal. Lamb yet again did a very good impression of the invisible man, Thomas meh, and I'm sick of Kruezer trying to kick the ball of the ground and for it to come off the side on boot and go straight to an opposition player, bend down and pick it up and if that's not possible shepherd for one of our smalls who are there.

That first half was putrid, these are AFL players who cannot handball to a moving target, cannot make the decision that kicking to a young forward with two players on him is a bad idea and is there no talking out there?

Kerr should be dropped for looking at Kreuzer then turning his back, he has not earned the right to do that and then to miss everything just showed that he's not capable. Harry McKay gets dropped for some reason yet we have Kerr who has the manoeuvrability of the QE2 and the starting speed of it as wekk. Harry is 204 and quick play him FFS.

For the first time I'm thinking Bolton may not be the coach for us, we used to be hard to score against now roll up roll up to get easy scores.

I remember when Pagan was coach posters here were saying that was the first time the club has done a full rebuild and embraced the draft.

Very hard to rebuild when the first 2 years we lost 2 first round, 2 second round and a priority pick.

To rebuild through the draft you have to trade away players to get picks, something we have never done in fact we've done the opposite, traded away picks to get players.

This is the first time that Carlton have built their team through the draft while trading in young talent as well.

Problem is, this is the 3rd, 4th, 5th? 'rebuild, redevelopment, rennovation, rejuvination...'

This casserole was supposed to be for dinner......last week. By the time its cooked we'll be dead from malnutrition!
;)

You cannot blame Bolton/SOS for the disasters of the past, they were given a crap sandwich and have done a potentially great job in filling the list with young players with upside and talent.

I'm a little confused about the argument that we should wait until some of these kids make it to 50+ games before we make a firm judgement about them.

... why then have we made judgements and let go so many players that haven't managed that number.

We have not let any player go that we drafted since the Bolton / SOS regime started and that's all I'm concerned with.

If you read the pre-game thread half of the forum questioned the selections and why we dropped two small pressure forwards and replaced them with an inside midfielder and another half back flanker.

Just like the suns game when we replaced Kreuzer with a small, that left Casboult in the ruck.

Terrible selections that cost us both games before they even began.

What pressure forwards?

Cunningham was playing off the HBF and wouldn't chase nor tackle, Garlett was playing wing HFF and would not chase or tackle. Why do they get a game again?

If there had not been changes then Bolton would of been criticised for not putting players out who won't put in.
