Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 2: Carlton vs Sydney Pre Game Postulations
I think Collingwoods's mid-field is pretty thin and the fact they lost Swan in the first 10 minutes didn't help, so I don't think we will be swamped by Sydney like Collingwood was. I also think Sydney were pretty amped up for the return of Buddy so I am not sure they will be as committed as they were last round, though managing Buddy is going to be a challenge. I think we will be pretty competitive but our problem will be kicking enough goals though Sydney's defence isn't as strong as it has been in the past. i am hoping it will be a pretty good game.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 1 Carlton vs Richmond Post Game Prognostications
Watched the game on TV, had to turn off the sound. I think we lost the game in the first quarter when our first three scoring shots were points and there's were goals. Throughout the night, Casboult had three getable shots and missed all three. If he kicked two out of three we would have won. At the start of the last quarter I was wondering who was going to win the game for us. clearly it wasn't Casboult, and if he can't kick goals he is a liability.
I would like to say that it is a lot easier to support a team that has a go, and while Richmond will get better when they get there better players in, Carlton will get better the more they play together.
Long term we need key defenders, hopefully Plowman, Jaksch and Glass-McCasker can rotate through these roles to support Weitering, and we need a key forward who can be the go to man when games need to be won, hopefully McKay, Silvagni or Curnow can take on the role.
Over the short term, we just need to play better for longer.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL Practice Match NBs vs Richmond
Bit tough on Jones Baggers:
"3. Although Jones did a couple of nice things once we'd got the game under control, he was a liability when the heat was on."
I wasn't there but the Carlton website said he kicked his three goals in the first quarter. I would have thought he helped set up the games.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2016 - Rnd 1 Carlton vs Richmond
Our strength is the mid-field, Cripps, Graham, Kerridge, Murphy, Gibbs & E. Curnow with Kreuzer in the ruck gives us a strong basis to go forward. Richmond is very dependent on its mid-field and when you shut down Cotchin, as was done last year by North in the finals, they tend to struggle.
Our backline is adequate with Docherty, who I think is about to explode into the elite ranks, Touhy, Buckley and Simpson giving us plenty of run. Weitering makes us better but Rowe and Jamieson, while always giving their best will never regularly dominate their opponents. Plowman and Jaksch seem to have the pedigree to be better than Rowe and Jamieson and hopefully by the end of the year they will be the first choice key position defenders.
Our weaknesses last year was our forward line. We actually have a forward line but it is playing for other clubs. Lack of team cohesion, hopefully BB can fix that. A lack of outside run, looking at Boekhorst and some of the others we have recruited, I don't think it will such a problem. Our disposal, which continues to be a problem and it will be a test for BB
Long term I have high hopes for Harry McKay and Silvagni, who looks about a year away, but I think C Curnow is a mid-fielder. We need a rebuild.
Round 1 I think we will be competitive but can we kick enough goals to win. Other than Walker, no one has ever kicked six in a match. We need players who can regularly kick goals.

Does it need to be a tunnel? If the skyrail process works for our rail network, why can't it work for our roads?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Power forward?
I am quite surprised that Elwood used nous and Fevola in the one sentence. :)
What we need is a leader in the forward line, the go to man. The Hawks had a problem when they had Buddy in that they became a bit one dimensional. His leaving opened up the options and opportunities, however Roughhead has been their main man since he left. We need a team approach to our forward structure but we also need a leader. My biggest criticism on Waite and Henderson was that neither had the character to be the leader. They both were happy to be the second banana and that is why they will be happy in their new clubs.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: For Discussion
This is definitely a glass half empty post. I think our mid-field is fine, barring injuries, Murphy, Gibbs, Cripps, Graham, Curnow, Thomas, Kerridge with plenty of others able to have a run through the middle. I also expect our rucks to be stronger, particularly if Kreuzer stays fit. I think our weaknesses are we do not have a power forward who commands the game, we do not have a key defender who we can put on opponents main man and we may be a bit slow across the ground. Hopefully with Bolton and the wholesale changes to our list, we may overcome our other main weakness which was the team didn't have a red hot go week in and week out. I always found in competitive sport that if you play to win you can be surprised by how often you actually do win. Maybe not the flag this year but I expect us to be a hell of a lot better this year than last.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: John Nicholls Medal-2015
As the only person who got Touhy as a possible contender I am going to claim some knowledge about football until I make some prediction which actually demonstrates my complete lack of understanding and knowledge. All those who are advocating a scorched earth policy should recognize that if we had retained Kennedy, Waite, Gartlett, Betts, Jacobs, Robertson, Laidler and probably Maclean, and kept them with our core playing group of Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson, Kreuzer, Touhy, Buckley, Henderson, Yarran, Jamison, Walker, Docherty, Everett, Curnow, Bell, etc. we would have a team that would be challenging for the Cup this year. But because of impatience and poor decision making, we have added to our cutlery draw. I think we should be building from what we have got and trying to take the opportunities as they present themselves instead of constantly changing and throwing the baby out with the bath water. Keep Gibbs, Murphy and  Kreuzer and stop eating our own.
