Well, last week's team had no relationship to what actually went out onto the ground. If this week's team is actually something like it has been selected, then they should give Werribee a much better run for their money than we did last time. Last time it was a disaster of Biblical proportions and probably the worst effort from the Baby Blues for the year.
Ironic that we lost to half of North last week, to play the other half this week.

My expectations are pretty low: if we are not tanking, then I am a Collingwood supporter (and I don't want to lose 95 % of my brain and all of my teeth).

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Watson-Positional switch paying off
He needs to be given a chance. He has shown he is not the answer at CHB. If he is to remain on our list, he has be able to play somewhere. If he doesn't make it as a forward, the next step is elsewhere.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Northern Blues vs. North Ballarat at Ballarat on Sunday
The Northern Blues isn't  working and Luke Webster to me has little idea how to develop them into a team....our two best players are a small  unit in Sam Cattapan who will probably never get to play AFL footy and it was the same last season with Lambert and Marcon.
Cameron Wood is the other but he is purely backup and appears destined to just make up the numbers.....there seems little future in even having him on the list and we probably should have got the next Sam Jacobs from the SANFL/WAFL....

We need a standalone to to develop our players and we need a coach who is better than Webster...he has done nothing with this team and developed no one...
Results like this certainly do give your argument legs. Certainly the Northern Blues, and the Northern Bullants before them, have never acted like a real team. There have always been artificial divisions between the players and the guys have been treated differently. That is not good for any team.

It does appear to be something our admin has addressed: the recent booklet for the Northern Blues that was sent out to me showed more staff, particularly development staff, than I expected at Northern and a lot of it obviously put in place by Carlton. For example, Heath Scotland has recently been added to the list, even though he didn't make the booklet.
Certainly something had to be done. It was clear a couple of years back that there was a poor working relationship and the groups didn't mesh well.
That said, I am sure we can integrate things better. Attracting a bit more talent on the Preston side of things won't hurt either. Wilkinson, Anthony and the like are a decent beginning and young lads like Cattapan good pickups. But there needs to be more talent coming through.
Coaching: Having listened to Webster, he does not impress me as a game day coach. That may be a bit harsh, as I don't see the preparation he does or the planning he does off the field. I would prefer us to name a good match day coach to coach the team, someone who can inspire the team to produce its best.
I can't comment on who has or has not done much development: I don't get to see that. But the performances on match days suggest we are lacking that as much as anything. Hopefully the club can determine which are doing and job and replacing those who are not, while looking at the structures at the top clubs and stealing personnel and ideas from them. We need to be the best developers in the business: it makes out recruiting look much more reasonable if we do.

I can't see us becoming a stand alone team, although there would be some really good things to come from it. We have put too much time and effort into the 'Northern Blues' to tear it apart. But we really do need to improve it. Until we do, it will be an albatross around our necks and a concrete pillar on our feet.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Jim Park medal Voting: Carlton vs. Sydney
Well, it is now morning and I hope you guys have settled a bit as well: I wasn't expecting to threaten reprimands in the voting thread!  :o :o :)

So, what do I know now that I didn't last night? Nothing. But I am a bit more clinical about things.

Team:   C-
Why such a good score for such a bad result? For the 1st half we were actually pretty good. We gave a yelp and we smothered the egis in the Swans' forward line. The last quarter was adequate: we kicked 2 goals 3 and they kicked 2 goals 4. The match was over but we didn't throw in the towel.
As for the 3rd quarter, the less I say the better. We were smashed.

Votes:
[5]   Gibbs
[3]   Murphy
[2]   Curnow
[1.5]   Simpson
[1]   Walker
[1]   Henderson
[0.5]   Rowe
[0.5]   Jamison
[0.5]   Yarran

Explanations:
[5]   Gibbs:   By far our best player on the night. He really gave a brilliant 4 quarter effort and guts and determination.
[3]   Murphy:   kept working hard, and did a decent job, but nowhere near as effective as Gibbs.
[2]   Curnow:   Did a very good job all night on his opponent. His disposal? Everyone has something to work on.
[1.5]   Simpson:   Did a reasonable job, especially in the 2nd quarter.
[1]   Walker:   Good early.
[1]   Henderson   Kept trying and finally started getting some reward later in the game.
[0.5]   Rowe:   An excellent job early in defence.
[0.5]   Jamison:   His first half was brilliant. Afterwards....
[0.5]   Yarran:   Had a very good first half. Unsighted afterwards.

Honourable Mentions:
Tuohy:   Kept his opponent quiet, but his foot skills were off.
Judd:    Good in the first half. Barely sighted thereafter.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Carlton vs Sydney: Post match Pain
Well, the game was extremely good at highlighting our deficiencies:
[1] Ruck:
Even though Warnock was being beaten consistently, we didn't have any other option. For all the flack Warnock gets, he is not that bad. But he does have his limitations, and tonight we saw them. He does not handle big, strong blokes that well.
We need to recruit at least 1 new ruckman, as Kreuzer may never be the one we hoped he'd be. I am not seeing that many good rucks available this draft.

[2] Midfield:
We actually have a decent reputation ay getting contested ball, but Kennedy thrashed us in that regard tonight. We really need to work on our midfield, as we didn't have many to throw into it to make a difference. Gibbs and Murphy did well while Curnow did his job effectively. That was it.

[3] Forward line:
When our mids are being beaten, we really don't have a winning option up forward. We really need to work on that. Sydney had guys who took marks even when w were thrashing Goodes and Franklin. We didn't have the same power. Levi has great hands, but he doesn't get the ball enough and doesn't do enough with it.

Enjoy your tea, bignic. I'm still letting off steam. I couldn't be more frustrated if I tried.
And Paul, you are 100 % correct. The game showed exactly why we are so far below Sydney on the ladder.

I simply cannot find anything that we got out of the game after half time.
