They won't do that. It's Levi or Oscar until TDK returns.
Agree, McGovern only played 3 quarters yesterday so will need to show more over a whole game before being considered. Mind you Witt is out next week so the Gov could pinch hit in the ruck, the week after is against Port so would need a proper second Ruck then.
lol, reminds me I've got running club tonight, 5km followed by a bbq and rehydration...
I did a double take then, couldn't work out who you were having a BBQ with until I realised you are Darwin based....enjoy I'll be envious, although mainly about the BBQ!
Tigers and us have different recruiting criteria when it comes to potential problem players....they took Ben Cousins, made Jake King a local hero and Pickett was a easy choice for them given they have such a strong list and have a higher risk tolerance. We have the Von Trapp policy where SOS liked nice kids from nice backgrounds who went to nice schools and had Golden Retrievers as pets..
Pickett was clearly the best WAFL player on long form but was also injured and not due to play for 8-10 weeks...we needed an instant sugar hit and Deluca had been BOG in the recent state game and was also AFL ready after spending time at Freo. Deluca also had a delayed start but not the delay that Pickett was going to have. I get the logic and dont blame SOS on Pickett but we do need to lower our eyes and get a bit more nasty with our recruiting selections every now and then and pick the rough diamond over the choirboy.
Why was Eddie Betts passed over by every club at the ND, only to be left to us in the PSD?
I know mate and I normally don't do that 'what-if' stuff however there were many on this website calling for Marlion as the best talent in the draft (not me as I have no clue) but having seen the 2 play I'm at a loss to understand the choice. Anyway, time to move on.....
I know I'm backing over this issue one more time, but can someone give me a rational explanation as to why we picked DeLuca over Picket in the mid season draft??? A glaring difference between us and Richmond last night was speed/class and decision making, they have play makers all over the mark changing the courses of plays, Marlion being one of them.
Some of us are a little (greatly) concerned after the practice games. Others are a "wait until the proper stuff starts" type of supporter. I've always been in the latter camp. There's nothing wrong with either train of thought...it's just different.
I remember when we used to win, or go very well, in the pre-seasons only to fall in a heap once the season proper started. It's chalk and cheese. Have a look at the results in some of the other practice games and tell me that's a true indication of the relative strengths of some sides.
We won't know which way it goes until the first shots are fired in 'anger'....and for me that's the main difference between practice games and regular season games. There's no anger., no intensity and very little pressure in these games. It will increase dramatically when 4 points are on the line. Some clubs will thrive under those conditions, others will falter. That's when we'll be able to see where we really stand.
Agree Lods, we have no choice but to wait for the real stull as on exposed form we have nothing to be excited about. I'll be at round one but am much less optimistic after our recent showings....hope to Christ we put on a good show.
We don’t have him yet and, on 2019 form, he’s not in our best 22.
The best I’m hoping for, if we do get him, is that he joins with Kennedy, Dow, O’Brien, Stocker, De Koning, Pittonet and others in putting selection pressure on those in the 22.
His manager sounded quietly determined to get him to our club, would be disappointing to get him and for him not to be in our best 22.
I reckon he was odds on to be delisted only a month ago. Now?
Tricky part comes because if we want to keep the latter additions of Gibbons, Cottrell and DeLuca, then we still have to delist 3 others from our list. NOT including Pickett and Bugg who both retired.
He's had a year to prove himself and is old enough to know the standard required and couldn't make the grade this year when we desperately needed a smart small forward, gone at the end of the year.
