Jeff Beck RIP

What can you say?

One of the greatest guitarists ever and far too young at 78.

RIP Jeff Beck 🙁
“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”  Oddball

One of the testimonies to the respect of Beck's talent is the number of prominent artists he played with in various groups or was associated with during his career.
He was courted by both Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones.
A great talent.
RIP :(

Stevie Winwood has nailed it:

“Jeff Beck was a brilliant and unique musician who managed to sustain his presence as an outstanding guitarist throughout all of his career, from the mid-sixties to the present time. His guitar style utilised many differing techniques and styles. He was a leader and an innovator, and he will be sadly missed.”

A few years back I watched a YouTube gig from Steve Winwood, during the concert he brought Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana and Ry Cooder on stage to join him for a few numbers... amazing. Unfortunately it was taken down pretty quickly - copyright stuff no doubt.

Think 'best ever rock guitarists' and he's right up there.

I kind of understand where you’re coming from though. My musical favourites run from the late 50s through to the early 70s. Probably 80% of my music collection covers that period. As a young fellow I liked the Yardbirds, but they wouldn’t have been amongst my favourite groups, and as to the line-up I had no idea. It was usually the front man /lead singer in those sixties groups that got most of the attention anyway. It wasn’t until much later that I became interested in the interconnection of those groups. The fact that this middle popularity group featured (at various times) Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck is pretty interesting.

In many respects the real talent we hear on a lot of the hits of the sixties aren’t the actual members of the groups but the session musicians adding their bits and pieces. Beck and Jimmy Page were such session musicians before they ventured into their own more well-known groups.

After he left the Yardbirds Beck formed the Jeff Beck group which included Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood.

His career extended well beyond the 60s up to the 2010s, but to get an appreciation of that and his many connections
