VFL 2022 Rd 18 Carlton vs Williamstown at Williamstown

This game is on Saturday at 1405 at Willi.
We should be a bit stronger this week, with Owies and Carroll back, and maybe even Martin.
I expect Pittonet to be playing in Adelaide, but Mirkov has been carrying the ruck for almost the whole year.
I prefer Jesse Glass-McCasker as a permanent forward: he's looked more likely to grab a mark there. His ruck work has not been great, but then neither has Josh Cripps'.

I agree. Jack Martin has missed too many games to be an automatic selection. He needs to run around, get some form and confidence, get a little match fitness. Then he'll be ready for our finals' campaign.

Nor is he the only one in that situation. We have a few guys coming back soon. They need to find form and fitness in the 2's, so they can then impact the 1's.

No mention as to what the team will be yet. I find that really FRUSTRATING.

Jack M has too often been just a cameo player with rare moments of brilliance.  He needs to stay in games for much longer and show a lot more consistency.
Reality always wins in the end.

Spot on, Fluffy One. His talent is not the question, just his ability to be 'in' the game for the 120 minutes. We've moved beyond tolerating cameo players.

Although Small Durds stats weren't all that great in his last game (as an example) his work off the ball supporting team mates was tireless.

Looking through stats....MacReadie, Finbar O'Dwyer and Cam Polson all playing for Williamstown......a few recruiting nightmares there.

What a horrible game to watch. Willy must be fired up as they are completely dominating Carlton after doing FA all year.  Our seconds have certainly gone missing in a few games in which they were clear favorites...
Think Stocker has concussion too....

What is it with our club and less than ideal conditions (weather)?

This game is embarrassing. Getting thumped by a bottom side, FFS. Just haven't adjusted and adapted to the conditions.

Willi are tough work at home with that gale that blows , remember watching some VFA games down there and you were getting blown to pieces just watching with that Antarctic weather they have, a half eaten pie went cold real quick....

Too true. The one fond memory I have of Willi was being there for one of JSOSs first games. And you're so right about the pies... gotta eat 'em in a hurry if you want to enjoy them better than lukewarm!

There is a very unique home ground advantage down at Willi.

Very different to the pristine conditions of PP....and Marvel!

Agree. There was no excuse for the cr@p we served up in the first 3 quarter. I wonder how much responsibility fall to the coaches. We persisted going to the wing that Willi loved and knew. Should have been a wet/windy weather strategy... scrap it out. So obvious early on we were trying to play to our regular game plan... or the coaches did give them a different strategy and players just didn't adapt/cope. Finals at the G can be wet and windy.

What a shocking day.
[1] Fogarty wants to play seniors. Not sure many others do, not on this performance.
Stocker didn't do enough. 13 possessions isn't enough in the circumstances.
Mirkov was beaten for one of the few times this year. Downie had a really good game and showed how far Mirkov has to go.
Martin is not looking like he wants it enough. He is going to have to do more. He might get a go because Durdin got hurt, but that would be all.
Akuei did nothing at all. 2 possessions.
Marchbank's 16 possessions wasn't really enough either.
[2] Our VFL boys didn't have good afternoons.
Glass-McCasker barely had a touch and kicked only 1 point.
Crocker had only 7 possessions for no score at all.
[3] Kemp stood up. He didn't have a lot of mates.
[4] We still came home with a wet sail; 5 out of the last 6 goals. Says what we could have done, if we'd been on song all game.
