Wimbledon 2017

The big lefty from Luxembourg, Giles Muller, takes out Nadal 13-11 (or 14-12) in the 5th set.

The Fed will be most happy.
Finals, then 4 in a row!

oops, it was 15-13 in the 5th set.

4.5 hours....classic match. muller had match points much earlier then fended off break points on his own serve deep in the 5th...

Meanwhile earlier, Fed took apart baby Fed in straight sets, a routine 1.5 hour match.

Bloody Rafa. Smacked his scone on the header of the door opening when he did his pre match jump. Never the same after that.

Rafa can buy any car he likes and could have as many houses as he wants and yes, he won't need to work again..... but he was prepared to slog it out for 4hrs 48 mins and play a 15 / 13 final set that took 2hrs and 15 mins by itself, because he's passionate, dedicated and has genuine fire in the belly. I doubt money means a heck of a lot to Rafa at this stage.

Can we find him a spot on a back flank, just for the heck of it!!

Rafa has been my favourite player for years. I was extremely cheesed off when an ordinary player knocked him out of the tournament. A fate that has befallen Rafa far too often for my liking.

As a side note, if Rafa is the king of clay, then Fed is the king of everything else.

If you look at the winners of junior slam tournaments, you find a few who went on to be absolute superstars, some who toiled away well outside the top 10 and others who disappeared without trace: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Grand_Slam_boys%27_singles_champions.  This is complicated by the fact that the best players quickly leave junior ranks and join the senior tour.  For instance, Lleyton Hewitt made his mark at the Adelaide Open when he was only 16 and immediately dedicated himself to the ATP tour.

Players like Donald Young were seen as champions in the making based on their junior form, but they are just battlers.  Yet any player who makes it into the top 100 is an elite player.  They are the top few players from their own countries.  Gilles Muller made an early name for himself by beating Andre Agassi in Doha way back when, but he hasn't been able to do more than the occasional win against a top player.  He's a very capable and doughty player but you'd have to say he's an ordinary player at Grand Slam level.

Look at Thomas Berdych.  He has been a fixture in the top 10 and often is the next best outside the top 4 of the Joker, Fed, Nadal and Murray.  But he has never won a Grand Slam tournament.  The gap between the top 4 and the rest of the top 10 is massive.

OMG!  Murray lost in 5 sets (hampered by a hip injury) and the Joker retired because of injury.

Fed has just beaten Raonic, the guy who beat knocked him out of Wimbledon last year.  He'll more than kick himself if he doesn't add another Wimbledon trophy to his collection.

He would only need to beat Berdych to make the final against either Cilic or Querrey.  On the other hand, Berdych has his best chance of taking out his first grand slam title after being a top 10 player for most of his career.  Federer has beaten Berdych 18 times and lost only 6.  Unfortunately for Berdych, Federer has won their last 7 matches and the last time Berdych beat him was 4 and a half years ago.

Berdych is a shadow of his former self. The Djoker at 30% output was hard going for him.

In the other semi the lads will beat the carp out of each other, meaning likely back to back 5 setters for each of them, or close to....

Can't really see the Dodger dropping a set from, hereon in.
