Nice to see Tom Bell named. I wonder if he'll play?
Coburg have had the wood over us recently. Aaron Edwards has had leather poisoning and kicked heaps. I hope there are a few Tigers who are going to play senior footy, as their team looks much better than usual.
Stephenson also tends to play well against us.
I hope we can show some of the spirit and endeavour we displayed last week.

Think Shane Tuck will be a dangerous player..I'd have him down for 30+possies and Edwards should get his usual bag of goals.
Good to see Okeefe back in the team along with Tom Bell, hope both do well and can play some senior footy in the remaining games.

With Cachia playing today at Metricon instead of Bootsma, there will be at least 1 change. I don't know if Boots can play, if he is ready to play.
I hope Tom Bell is ready to play!

What warms the cockles more than anything is that there are blokes in this squad who could claim a place in the Seniors. We are progressing.

If Laidler  is continually played as a forward and is denied the opportunity at senior level then I call MM a "C".  Let's face facts. Most of Micks changes appear to be  anti Ratts. Walker to the backline, No Laids or Duigs, Yazz the forward, disrespect of Eddie, love of Lucas. I actually expect to see Laids seek a trade back to Geelong and he will become a gun.

Walker is playing probably his best season to date, Lucas has taken a big step forward, Yazz has been made to have a much needed attitude adjustment and I can't see any evidence of Eddie being disrespected. If all of these changes are to discredit Ratten's coaching, then it proves that Ratten needed to be sacked because everything you've mentioned has improved the team.

Neither Laidler or Duigan have been setting the world on fire in the 2's, even when Laidler has been played back it hasn't been exceptional.

No offence to anyone involved, especially Laids, but last week was the first time this year that he really DEMANDED his spot back in defence. I liked it. If he can replicate that today, then he DESERVES a senior game in defence. I hope he can get one to show what he can do.
I don't think Malthouse thinks Laids is the answer, but even he can change his mind if he gets his nose rubbed in it badly enough.

Sorry mate, couldn't disagree with you more on all of the above. You call MM a "C", do you expect him to pick players on name and reputation do you? Seen a few NB games have you? Duigan and Laidler have been putrid on a large number of games and hardly warrant selection. Robbo got a rocket last week and was sent back and responded, I suspect there will be more of that with others. When challenged, some blokes respond, some dont and/or sook it up. The two aforementioned appear to be in the second category at the moment. All is not lost though, they get a chance to prove themselves again today.

Agree, MM is shaking the complacency out of this group and saying that if they want a game in the navy blue they have to be good enough and demonstrate 100% commitment - no matter who you are. Nothing wrong with that.

In the light of day (read sober) I can see how I got a bit over emotional. I was just annoyed to see Laids again named at CHF and not getting a chance to prove himself in the ones when others (Boots, Watson) seem to be given an easier path. FWIW I don't believe Mick is a "C". ;)

Good suggestion... I, also would like to see Graham given a go at the highest level. Hope Dinger continues to learn, his big body will be important going forward. Reckon Meat is a monty replace Rowe for the D1ckers game.

I would consider Bell but not Graham...Freo have big mids and we need the extra size of Bell to combat them.

Lucas has to play...was poor vs GC but wont learn anything from that by being sent back to the twos, his previous from has been ok and I want to see him do will this week and show some character...good players usually play well after a poor game and its a good test for him.

When is Graham going to get his chance? I was shocked when he wasn't even named as an emergency last week !!!

Carlton-listed players in descending order of usefulness against poor opposition in good conditions.

The first 7 played well enough to be considered for senior selection next round if there are any vacancies.

Nick Graham = Very good first half – almost as good in the second - only Lambert was ahead of him for BOG
Nick Duigan = Played as a lead up forward and impressed with his speed, marking and endeavour
Levi Casboult = Some useful ruckwork but particularly good in marking contests and his kicking looked better than at any other time since he arrived at the club – not just accuracy but his whole approach to set shots at goal looked deliberate and confident
Robert Warnock = One of his better games – good in the ruck and more than useful around the ground
Tom Bell = Good game but not our best midfielder
Jeremy Laidler = Played in defence and looked much more at home
Aaron Joseph = Typically good game in defence

Marcus Davies = Typically solid defensive effort
Troy Menzel = Some brilliance but quite a lot of invisibility in between times
Tom Temay = Played quite well today, especially in the first half – probably the best game I have seen from him
Rhys O’Keeffe = Played with dash and vigour – best game back from his long lay off
Frazer Dale = Looks accomplished in the air and has good balance – worthwhile contributor
Dylan Buckley = Some brilliance but lots of invisibility in between times
Luke Mitchell = Should have played in the early game again – spent no more than 50% of the game on the ground and managed one kick off the ground – a bollard would have been as useful and almost as fast

Now you're talking EB1...it's no secret I like Lucas for the years to come...makes a few Blues now...but he keeps getting the pill (although not yesterday)....nice to have you on board!

I'd play Graham as the sub.

Eddie coming on late the other day showed the value of a clever player late in the game.

Not a fan of Cachia coming on as sub, at this point in his career he's a stopper learning.

Plus against the Dockers the ball use will have to be MUCH MUCH better than we've shown recently.

It was baffling enough the first time. To me it's a negative mindset to have a stopper as the sub unless they're coming back from injury, especially in a side that already contains Carrazzo, Curnow and Maclean.

Thanks for the report, RR. Some good news: Graham, Duigan, Bell and Laidler, for example. Not so good news about Buckley and Mitchell. Nichevo.

I'm glad Tom Temay played decently. He played pretty well last week in the shocking conditions at Box Hill. Now he's done a bit in good conditions. He seems to be moving forward, after a very slow start to the year.

I'm really surprised that Richmond, sorry, Coburg, were so ordinary. They had been pretty good and had a lot of Richmond guys named (I have no idea how many actually played). But you can only play what they put out on the day, so I'm pretty pleased by the result.

Bell needs to put a case forward and has struggled for most of the year. It's disappointing as from all reports he has a big tank, size and can be aggressive. However, he may well be perceived as being "one-paced" and as lacking awareness in traffic.

Surely Casboult comes in for Rowe this week?? Whilst he offers team flexibiliy, he simply couldn't mark the ball on the weekend and if you do that against quality sides the ball will rebound out of our forward 50 with interest! Subject to availability, I'd be bringing both McInnes and Casboult into the side to face the Dockers for Rowe and one other.

Bell has not been afforded opportunities as have simple. One paced seriously?    Learning mm game yeap can get that. Must get some games before the end of the year.

Mumford, White, Pkye and Tippett aren't useless outside the centre circle.

Interesting report RR, many thanks. Especially encouraged to read about O'Keefe who I'd pretty much discounted as gorn. Maybe he will turn it around and do a Brock McLean??

Warmed the cockles here, as well. A fit ROK is good grunt in the midfield... can kick the aggot a mile, has a dash of mongrel, aint slow, is a big boy with good defensive skills. Just needs the bod to stay together!
