Wood and Sheehan get the nominations

Carlton rookies Cameron Wood and Ciaran Sheehan have got the nod to play senior games in 2015.

Both players have been listed by the Blues as Nominated Rookies, meaning they can be available for selection for every game.

Under the Nominated Rookie Rule, a team is eligible to nominate a rookie player who can play during the premiership season and finals series if it has 38 players on its list (not including veteran players) and satisfies the Total Player Payments requirements.

Both Wood and Sheehan made their Carlton debut last year: Wood in Round 18 against North Melbourne and Sheehan in Round 20 against the Gold Coast.

Wood, who came to Carlton after stints at Brisbane and Collingwood, has since played six games in the Navy Blue.

Sheehan has run out four times since making the move to Australia from County Cork in Ireland at the start of 2014.

I think with Kruezer being out and Warnock being injured/sore/no good it was predictable Wood would be playing ....Sheehan was good in his 4 games last season but seems to have fallen off the list in terms of NAB cup game appearances...is he injured?

Well that answers the question about Byrne getting early games. Still behind Sheehan in the pecking order, they were just getting experience into him in the NAB series.

Blaine Johnson misses out too. If Giles is put on the LTI list there would be room for 1 more elevation.

I think he is EB, sat in the coaches box for the NB's game on Sunday.

Sheehan has been conspicuous by his absence, so it is interesting to see him get the nod!

He wasn't on the injury list either!

He is now LP, as of 25/3/15.

Giles (foot) indefinite
Kreuzer (foot) 4 weeks
Sheehan (groin) 2 weeks
Walker (knee) 2-3 weeks
Warnock (shoulder) test
Whiley (Achilles) 2 weeks
Yarran (virus) test

Yes. he has been injured. In the latest injury update he is stated as being 2 weeks away.

With Wood and Sheehan as nominated rookies, it does allow us to play other guys for LTI replacement. I don't think Byrne will play round 1, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him get games for Giles.
I haven't seen enough of the other newbies to suggest who may be next in the pecking order. Johnson would probably be it, as he got a taste or 2 last year, but that would be a guess.

Good move...I like the look of Byrne and hope he gets some senior game time later in the season.....feel sorry for Giles though, he just cant get on the park.
