Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game passion: AFL 2021 Rd 6: Carlton vs Brisbane
Whether Brisbane respond positively or negatively is something no one can answer. Perhaps they go into their shell instead ? We won the centre clearances, so I'm not sure Brisbane would have an advantage in that space. The what ifs I posed above are regulation stuff, not wild scenarios - 9 times out of 10 Betts would kick those, and 9 times out of 10 Stocker would not skew the kick so badly.

I'm still of the opinion that we are not as far off as some people think.

I'm in the same boat. Only problem is it's been like this for longer than we hoped. We're not that far off but the good teams are still too good for us when they have a crack. Injuries to key players are still hurting us. Easy misses are still hurting us. 20 minute lapses of concentration are still hurting us. We're not quite there yet.

No. Nobody accepts that we'll be beaten by them out there. They tried their butts off...I knew they would. The difference is they are a great side and do what's required to win the game. They do it all the time.

We can give ourselves a pat on the back and an encouragement award, but reality is they are just better than us.
True words. A lot of teams have been beaten by the tigers the last 4 years. Just our bad luck we play them in the first round.

i'm hoping we get on our bike early and use the man on the mark rule to our advantage, and maybe have a nice handy lead at half time.  we can play quick and score pretty quick.  then try and find a way to stay in front at the end.

the problem is that the tigers are a bloody good team.  they might just smash us early and roll us all night long.  or if we get in front early they'll just claw their way back into it and get us at the end.

the only hope we have is that our boys are sick and tired of being beaten by this mob. there's something to be said for a team that decides to win no matter what.  no matter who you're playing, or how good they are.  this would be nice to see.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: CV and mad panic behaviour
Ive noticed a trend during covid.  There are logical reasons behind each and every action taken even if it seems like there isn't.  You can find hypocrisies in each decision too.

Thing is thats not the point. An early 6 day lockdown is borderline sufficient provided people both get tested when they display the appropriate symptoms and isolate properly in the interim.

It all falls over when they don't get tested and fail to isolate appropriately.

A perfect example of this phenomenon is the rhetoric about mask wearing and how it doesnt help given you can take it off when you're out at a dinner service.  Thing is, if you wear it before meals and after meals that will eliminate about 4 or 5 contacts on the way to the table and passing people in the streets.  Sure the chances of it being effective reduce with more take off put on and handling, but the chances of transmission and contraction reduce with each step you take even if its not 100% effective.

Fact of the matter is, nothing is completely effective and all you're doing is reducing chance of transmission overall not elimination.

This is where the argument gets lost and is muddied.  Its akin to advocating that seatbelts don't work because people don't wear them properly or because the chance of incident isn't that high and if a serious incident occurs it wont help, but thats wrong.  Thing is its all about playing the percentages.  Assuming I have covid and you don't, the chance of you catching covid off me is reduced if both wearing masks is the important bit.  The fact that it happens anyway or is suspect is quite irrelevant.

i didn't realise logic is allowed when discussing covid...

It's mildly creepy in a grandfatherly, trying to be comforting way. Freshly washed hair does smell nice. These days he should probably avoid doing anything even remotely like that. I have daughters and they have friends and in these days you know it's dangerous to even comfort them in any way shape or form. Bloody paedos make the rest of us very uneasy and think twice about even trying to be nice. Back to Biden, if that is his only contact with them then I don't think there's much to it. Groomers spend a lot of time being nice in public and then the worst of human nature behind closed doors.

This US election is a bit like a good test match.  One of my kids even asked me who was winning yesterday.  It was only the 2nd session on day 1 fer crying out loud...

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Who would you vote for in a State Election if held this weekend 28/09
Dunno if I'll vote for Dan, but I might.  Hotel quarantine was a debacle, when compared against the other states, but not compared to the rest of the world.  As mentioned above, hindsight is a wonderful thing, and maybe it would have gotten out anyway, but probably not if done better.

The question we always ask at work in times of crisis is how to fix it and how to stop it happening again.  Acknowledge mistakes were made, but the focus must be on how to resolve the crisis.  I think Dan's done that.  When we recording 700 cases a day nobody can deny we were looking at heading the way of much of the rest of the world.  If drastic actions weren't taken we'd now be like the US, Europe, etc...  It would be too hard to contain and trace, and our deaths would be much higher.

If Vic didn't lock down and just let the thing run rampant once it was out, we would not be looking at something resembling normal by Christmas.  As it stands, if Vic can become like NSW & Qld, then the whole country can open our internal borders (except maybe WA) and shops.  If we had cracked a month ago, when we had 20-50 odd cases a day, it wouldn't take long for that to have climbed again.  Feds are slagging Dan for staying the course, but the end result of staying the course will be good for the entire country, not just Vics.  It's not about how we look in a month's time, it's how we look over the course of the next year or so.

And even so, there is still a real risk the bloody thing hangs around, escapes again, and causes more problems.  It's the nature of the beast.  But - the more we take it seriously, and the more seriously we take the lessons learnt, the more likely we can contain it next time.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Participation: AFL Rd 16: Carlton vs Sydney at Metricon
Probably a bit of both... maybe Papley has already 'checked out.'

Plowman played a very good game - did everything right.  people seem to jump on a brain fart every week or two, but he generally does do everything right, and keeps some very dangerous forwards quite most of the time.   I'd hate to play on the likes of Papley, Charlie Cameron, etc...

Onto Papley - i hope he's stinking it up on purpose so he can drive his price down a bit.  If we had to pay for him based on first half of season form he'd cost a bomb.  On the other side of the coin, possibly a bit worrying???
