Robert Heatley Stand / Re: In Game Action: 2020 AFL Rd 3: Carlton vs Geelong
Eddie Betts would be making SOS (the real SOS) admit he was wrong me thinks.

Eddie has given our forward line a spark it has missed since he left.

Gibbons was borderline best 22 IMO, but his efforts prove he is worth persisting with over a hot/cold Dow, Obrien ..... type. Excellent.

Weiters is in AA form.
Doc too.
Plowman dominated danger early, taken some good intercept marks and is proving his importance to the team.
Jones hasn't had much to do, but does it when required.
Simmo playing a bit part these days, but his experience and cool head cannot be overstated.
SPS has been quiet, but hasn't put a foot wrong.

They are our back 6, and as a unit are demolishing the cats.

Jack Martin into the guts offers us a burst of acceleration that we lack otherwise.  His ball use, exquisite.

Tall forwards are clunking and mostly straight kicking.

Pittonet building on his game last week.

Hardly a player who has not played his role thus far.

Can lightning strike twice in the 2nd half???

X2.  We're not allowed to attend,  and there's no FTA.   So,  how are we supposed to follow our club Gil???

There was a tweet going around last week which stated there was not enough reporters to go around so that the Dogs vs Saints game did not get a right up.

Not sure how true it was, and can obviously be written up after watching the replay, but it begs the question if we cant get coverage of the 1's what hope do we have on the 2's!

No, hate crimes are a legitimate and officially recognised form of crime. You can't just wash away the facts that don't suit your argument.

I've joined this debate late, but has anyone pointed out that the sheer fact that 'hate crimes' exist, as in a specific definition in itself, is part of the racism problem?

If people are all supposed to be equal (in reality we appear a long way off) the courts highlighting our 'differences' perpetuates the exact thing its trying to stop.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 3: Pre Game Prognostications: Carlton vs Geelong in Geelong
We are a chance if the Cats turn up over cocky and think we are toast before the ball is bounced, resting Parfitt so new chum Stevens can play with no match fitness is a sign they dont rate us and think they just have to turn up.
I give us a chance if we can be with them at half time, its a weird season with clubs in pre season mode really and everyone looking out of tune and surprise results will be more common IMO.
Blues by 17 points over a cocky half arsed Cats lineup.....just love to see C. Scotts face in the box and the excuses he finds, we are due some luck and the law of averages has to have us winning at the Cattery sooner than later, this weird season might make it happen.
If we lose and are none from three its probably season over and Teague under the blowtorch, the players have to show they care and respond in the 1st quarter.

Tell all the boys that they don't have a game next week (we play positive covid testing bombers!) and that this will be a defining game (and potentially their last) for 2020. Don't have to worry about backing it up next week, leave nothing in the tank!

And now for something completely different....

What would you prefer?
a) Getting out of the blocks, getting a jump on the opposition only to be overrun at the end and running out of puff. Ala Tigers a few years ago, 5 goals to 0 up, lost.
or
b) Giving the opposition a leg up early, regrouping and chasing them down late.

Before you answer, i know what it will be....
"c) Jump out of the blocks AND dominate late"

That aside...you'll probably choose a)....and hope not to get run down.
I've got a different approach and i'll explain why.

In the past, if we were lucky enough to get off to a good start, the opposition would make some changes and run over us.
THAT showed a lack of
- Belief/confidence - we drop our bundle
- Ability to adjust matchday tactics

Since Teague has taken over, we've struggled early, but almost always been in matches.
This shows that we have
- Belief/confidence - we don't give up.
- Ability to adjust matchday tactics

I'd much rather the latter option. In all honesty, its a lot easier to fix a 'slow start' from a coaches perspective than it is to fix a lack of belief/confidence and matchday nous which we have suffered from previously.

Hang in there lads. We are simply a couple of early goals away from being able to dominate a game.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2020 Rd 2: Carlton vs Melbourne
Personally i thought our backline played very well after quarter time and losing Newman.

Weiters hardly got beaten all day.
Jones' intensity can never be questioned and his ability to give a teammate a chop out is excellent.
Docherty seems to have found his groove like he was never absent.
Plowman had a shaky start but reckon he won 90% of the contests from then on.
SPS has great ball movement and time and adjusting to his new role.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2020 Rd 2: Carlton vs Melbourne
CARLTON            0.0    2.5    4.6    7.11 (53)
MELBOURNE       5.2    7.4    8.5     8.6 (54)

GOALS
Carlton: Cuningham, Lang, Casboult, McGovern, Gibbons, Betts, Cripps No multiple goal kickers!
Melbourne: Hunt 3, Neal-Bullen 2, Petracca 2, Fritsch

BEST
Carlton: Murphy, Docherty, Weitering, Petrevski-Seton, McGovern, Curnow
Melbourne: Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Salem, Langdon, Viney

I'm sorry McGovern was in our bests?

I'd have him probably at the front of the queue to have a rest next week. Kicking was horrible. Chasing, lackluster. Impact, none.
