Its probably to do with weighting for the competition combined with timing of the body of work required to win a competition.

i.e. Sam may have scored most of her goals after the cut off for that season.

If the competition is important, the W league isnt helping her.

IF the timing is off, she will come into the frame for the next title up for grabs.

Looking at the names of the clubs these girls represent, there is no secret as to why she didnt win.

Combine that with a voting public likely to be US based and there is your answer.
