Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL 2017 Rd 1: Northern Blues vs. Port Melbourne
Graham's possies were useless,  handpasses and kicks around corners , up in the air when being slung kicks and generally running back the other way from goal....stats inflated his impact on the game...ditto Boekhorst with 24....zero effectiveness IMO...

Polson I like and can use both sides of his body....I think he is more AFL ready than most..
Fisher works hard and did kick a nice long goal in the last but like I said in my previous comments is too light for senior footy at this stage..
Sheehan was ok without being great, can lay a tackle and kicks the ball well but lacks a yard of pace IMO...

Cunningham didnt grab me at all, flashy player but generally he didnt use the ball well IMO and doesnt impact enough..
McKay is promising and could stay at home more if we had a better midfield but has to work up the ground a lot to get the footy...

I also thought Port took the foot of the pedal in the last quarter and were happy to just see out the game given the conditions...

Agree with you on Graham.  Agree mostly in regard to Boekhurst, though he did try and get in the game.  And Polson, I think, should be playing instead of Thomas based on that performance.

I though Fisher played better than you did.  And I really liked Sheehan's game.  He was out muscled by Lisle at one point but overall he was our best defender by far.  Again could play seniors - offers more than a White.

Thought our young brigade were very good today, especially in the last quarter.

Polson is a spit for Murph and often does smart things with ball.

Fisher is one touch and kicked a beauty in the last.

Cunners faded but did plenty of the tough things.

McKay really worked himself into the game even his disposal was an issue.

Kerr didn't get it much but used it well when he did.

Sheehan should be playing seniors.

Pickett isn't going to get huge numbers to begin with.  But he showed us what he can.  His tackling pressure for one was better than most of the senior players.

I know there's questions on Cunningham, based on the VFL thread, but we are wasting our time playing him in the Magoos.  He's a second year player so needs to get AFL exposure.

If I was being crazy bold I would drop:

Thomas for Cunningham,
Levi for Harry,
Army for Fisher
White for SOSOS's cousin

And would certainly not play Lamb next week.

We would probably lose by 15 goals but I sooo want to be rid of the passengers.

E. Curnow only gets a game because he has heart.  But he needs to be told that he has limitations.

Rowe gets a game because... there's no one else.  JGM ain't exactly coming on and Jaksch would be a backward step.

I have to agree. They are simply not getting enough of the ball at the moment and not ding enough with it when they have got it. Sumner had a couple of shocking turnovers today that lead directly to Weagle goals. Yes, he wasn't alone, but with guys like Boekhorst (finally) showing something, it is time to get them a go in the VFL. They will be with us in 2017. Other guys have not had an opportunity yet, and need to in the next few weeks.

I wouldn't play Charlie Curnow next week either. He didn't make much of a contribution, which isn't a huge surprise, considering what he has been through this year. He showed he is going to be a player. Fine. Now try Jones. Jones has to convince SOS and Bolts that he is worth persevering with.

I was happy enough with Weitering. He is not in great form at the moment, but it is a long season for young kids like him. He didn't have a good match up in defence for periods of the game, so sending him forward was definitely worth the risk and gave us some rewards. He will probably pinch hit as a forward in the future sometimes, so we saw that he can do it.

I think dropping Curnow for Jones is a backward step.  Curnow really grew into the game and given he's been out for more than three months it was a better than serviceable effort.

And while I'm typing, the side can't play both Sumner and Lamb.  Lamb grassed a lace out pass in the second and didn't get his head in the game after that.  Sumner tried all day and set up a great goal to CC but he disappears for great swathes of the game.  I'd certainly bring BB in for one of these guys next week.

Like Nicky G's game.  8 tackles is nothing to sneeze at.  His big problem is how slow he is under pressure.  In space he's fine and he put his body on the line, but when he gets the ball under some heat he's too slow.  Still, we need the extra mid and he was more than serviceable today.

Talking about slow, Kerridge panics when he doesn't have a clear target to give it too.  He was out main mid while Gibbs and Cripps were on holiday and did his best to give us drive but he seriously butchers the ball when he doesn't have an obvious choice.

Cripps has 5 disposals in the first half and 29 for the game.  Yes, would love to see a four quarter effort from him, but credit where it's due that was an enormous second half.  If only he could kick straight.

Simpson.  A legend.  Can't be said enough.

I agree with B4L.  Happy to be proven wrong, but Jaksch was awful today.  It was in the backline where he gifted the Weagles a goal and up forward he had no judgement for the ball.  I'd love him to be something, but I'm not holding my breath.

In any rate he'll be dropped for Cazz next week, unless the CFC feel like giving Cazz a run in the VFL.

Having said all that, I really liked what I saw in the second half.  Cut out some horrible turnovers and we win that game.

Silvagni is fantastic over heard.  C. Curnow has the X-factor and Weitering should start up forward next week (not that he'll see the ball much against the Swans, but he looked at home there).

And a shout out to Simon White who was great all day.

Simpson is a true Carlton great.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 16: Post Game Pessimism: Carlton vs Adelaide
I'd say that Everitt is a certainty to be dropped after antihero gutless performance.  Except I said the same thing last week and he still got a game.

Walker is gone.  Skills, workrate, game awareness - all gone.  Deserves his 200 but the pin needs to be pulled.

I'd like to see how Sumner goes after a proper pre-season, same with Plowman.  Yeah Sumner drops in and out of the game but he does put in effort.

Far too many times I watched a mid - Curnow, Gibbs - just hack it forward even though they must have known that there was no one there but Adelaide players.  On the other hand, they always seems to have the time to lower their eyes.

Sign up Army for another 12 months.  The guy is an inspiration, even if his brain fades are frustrating.
