Robert Heatley Stand / Re: After Game Thread v Crows
We both should have won but deserved to lose.
The umpires helped tip the balance though with a few howlers today.
Tragic way for Judd to bow out, it would have been nice to get over the line for him.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2015-Rnd 6 Carlton vs Brisbane (In Game)
Is it just me or almost every time we get the ball we seem to something cringeworthy? A hand pass that misses the target, playing on only to run into the opposition, kicking to a 3 on 1 contest, soft gentle floating kicks... the list is endless.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Carlton pasted by Pies (Post Game)
This is something I've been banging on to my mates for a while now.

The club needs to get humble for mine, learn to appreciate every dollar. Easy money breeds laziness and arrogance.

Only after cutting those ties can this club build the right culture.
Taken straight from the Constitution of the Carlton Football Club:
2. Preliminary
Objects
2.1 The club exists for the benefit of its supporters and the community. It seeks to serve this purpose by undertaking the following:
(a) In playing the game of AFL football, to provide its supporters with enjoyment, engagement, fulfilment, and hope of success;

Fail.

In desperate need of a complete rebuild of the club - the board and its governance structure, the coaches and trainers.
We just seem to always be playing catch up every year - recruiting other team's fitness guru's, their coaches and administrators. And in the end we still to be churning out players that don't seem as strong, have lower fitness levels, poor skills and less hunger for the game. Above all, we are just tactically behind the 8 ball and seem to be sticking to a game plan and team structures that just aren't working every week.
We need to bite the bullet and rebuild off the ground well before we get another player in the door.
Big ask when you're only 5 weeks into a season too.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Tonight
Sometimes the best way to assess your team's performance is to ask the supporters of the opposition. So I asked some friends back in Perth for their take on the NAB warm up, here's a summary of their replies:
1. That was a moral loss for the eagles. Should have won by more given the difference in midfield experience. Losing Mackenzie just destroyed their hopes of making the 8.
2. The carlton ruck work was a joke. If they can't take on Lycett and Sinclair they are going to get murdered by Mumford, Jacobs and Sandi in the regular season.
3. Carlton seemed to lack run and structure, they didn't support the ball carrier by breaking to space quickly enough and also allowed the eagles half backs and mids to peel off to easily. Also - why did carlton keep kicking long in hope into the breeze? Especially when they'd flooded back in defence?
4. Getting Jaksch was a good move, still needs to beef up a bit but showed plenty.
5. Clem Smith is going to be either a real hard nut or get cleaned up by someone like luke hodge who really shows him what being hard is all about.

None of them really had anything to say about Bell.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Casboult To Play As A Permanent Ruckman
Mick has said that Kreuz (at 200cm) is too short to be a number 1 ruckman.

So, I'd say no.
Surely that must be just a bluff from Mick though to motivate Kreuzer?
With the exception of Freo, most clubs play a ruckman of comparable height at around 200-204cms. Surely skill and strength make up for a pretty small height difference?
Stefan Martin, Will Minson, Patrick Ryder and Shane Mumford are all under 200cm and had pretty good seasons.

I think Henderson plays his best footy in the backline and having him team up with Rowe and Jamison is the best option for building a solid unit that can take on most tall forward lines. It would also allow Jamison to play more a loose man in defence which he seems to do best - he is good runner for a player his size. Playing loose and spending less time under the pack maybe also preserve his body and we can get a few more years out of him on the other side of 30.

That still leaves Casboult, Jones and Jaksch (and hopefully Membrey) up forward with Everitt, Walker and Menzel as potential options to rotate through.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 1 2015
I think there is a higher probability that we fall further back next year. If Waite goes and we have a few injuries to the wrong players we don't have the depth to be consistently competitive. Next season is time for developing the young players by getting more game time into Menzel (in the midfield), Cripps, Graham, Holman, Giles and whoever we take at pick 6 this year.

Holman and Giles are a long way off, Cripps has the tools to be a player but not the fitness/endurance at this stage...Graham is probably the only player who I would say has progressed into being a possibility of making a senior AFL player....I think Cripps will make it but may need next season to get a decent fitness base..
Even if Waite stays I dont see him as the future and would have a new forward line plan with some new forwards...
Agreed, they're probably not ready yet but they will develop better by getting 10 games each in the seniors next year - not necessarily all together at the same time though. They need seniors exposure at some point, may as well let them learn some hard lessons while we're not really contending for the flag (after yesterday I think it should be clear how far off the pace we are right now). Let them appreciate the work rates of players from Hawthorn, Sydney, Port and Freo by having to chase them.
