Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Our list - what we have and what we need
I'd say it depends on what is on offer in the market.  If there's a key forward, great, but if not, we need to secure a big bodied mid and trust McKay and Curnow to be our key forwards.  H in particular is still very raw and has upside, so I don't think our spine is in terrible shape as is:

Weitering - strong potential
Marchbank - already proven
Kreuzer - already proven
Curnow - already proven
McKay - strong potential

Robert Heatley Stand / Our list - what we have and what we need
Below is an outline of what our best 26 should look like from next year going forward (hence Simpson being omitted as he is likely to retire).  I included only players I deemed rightfully belonged in our journey as a high performing team chasing flag no.17.  Yes, some positions are held by those with merely potential, but they are promising prospects.  The blanks represent spots that I don't think anyone on our list is fit to fill.  That's why players I've included in our emergencies are just that - good quality depth players but not a walk up into our best 22.

The good news - we only have 3 blanks.  I expected us to have a lot more.

The bad news - we still have 3 blanks, and one is crucial - another big bodied midfielder is required.  And as is the case with the remaining 2 blanks, I believe this spot needs to be filled by a 21-24 year old to support our relatively young 23 remaining players listed.  That means trading and doing what we haven't been able to do for a long time - prying a player out of a club that they aren't happy to see go.  Fringe players won't cut it.  Gaff is an example of one such player - we need to throw everything at him.

FB:  Blank   Weitering   Plowman
HB:  Docherty   Marchbank   Blank

HF:  Wright   C.Curnow   Fisher
FF:  Garlett   McKay   Lamb
Foll:  Kreuzer   Cripps   Blank
I/C:  E.Curnow   Lang  Murphy
Emg: Cunningham   Williamson   Mullett   Pickett

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2018 Rd 2: Post Game Prattle: Carlton vs Gold Coast
What a shocking performance - but can't be too hard on the lads; representing a list that has been constructed incorrectly for maybe the 5th (lost count) iteration of the "rebuild" - reminds me of the Matrix and Zion being destroyed every generation.

I'll start with some positives, for brevity's sake:
- Thomas - best game I've seen him play for a long time - creative with the ball and in everything, particularly in the first half when there was still some form of a contest
- Charlie - scarily already the best player on our list.  Not enough superlatives to describe him or the wood he gives me
- Ed - loving seeing him freed up a bit and putting that tank of his to use - and didn't quite butcher it all that badly which was refreshing

Negatives:
- The list - Well, we got the recruitment wrong from day one, didn't we, with Murphy representing our weak, small on-ballers. I've always said that to be under 6'1 and an effective midfielder, you need to make up for the lack of size with exceptional tackling and goal kicking ability.  Murphy possesses neither and if he wasn't a number 1 pick, would be considered a B grader at best.  I have hope for Fisher and SPS but not as midfielders - it's simply too hard to compete when every other midfield in the AFL consists of beast units.  it's boys vs men in the middle and we are being fiddled with.  Despite giving up oodles of natural talent, I'd rather see Ed and maybe even Byrne, join Kennedy and Cripps (and later Dow when developed) in the guts - at least then we would have some physicality - at the moment our best chance of a clearance is from a high free kick on one of our midgets
- Forward line - structure and personnel. Same can be said every week.  Every other team looks to have some poise and general tactic going forward.  We believe that is unnecessary.  A real worry that Harry still can't get a game despite our shocking stocks.  All I know is bringing back Silvagni isn't the answer - I love him because he is Carlton royalty but he is such a nothing player.  There's 1-2 "Gunstons" every generation and he's not one
- Weitering - don't know WTF is going on here.  Continuing on from his miserable 2nd year blues.  At best its a confidence issue.  At worst, he couldn't care less.  I'm quick to judge though (derrrr) and I firmly believe that if you're being paid a handsome sum to run on a football field, you can at least run, contest and tackle.  Earn your damn paycheck.
- Jones - is he back to his uncoordinated best?  Every spoil and jump he attempts is so poorly timed its comical to watch.  He looks like Yoshi doing a floating jump, if anyone is familiar.
- Simpson - his best has now become far from his worst.  Still my favourite player, and played a belter last week in fact, but I can just see him burning out mid year, which will make the absence of Docherty even more apparent, given Byrne is a clown.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 4: Post Game Pain: Carlton vs. Western Bulldogs
If Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer (ditto Daisy) put in even 'ok' games, we would be winning these matches.

These blokes are the reason we are so bad.....they simply don't produce on a consistent enough basis.

Three #1 and one #2 draft picks producing diddly squat.

It's a sickness that people still rile off those names.  If you ignore their positions in their draft - out of 10, Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer are a 7,5 and 4 respectively

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: NAB Challenge: Carlton vs. Sydney at Etihad
I'd play Gibbs as a forward who runs on the ball every now and then rather than the other way round, kicked goals for Glenelg but we have never used him forward enough...even played FF there.

Kerridge is a goal kicking mid as is Graham......

I think Murphy is another player who needs to spend some more time forward as a forward pocket goalsneak to get away from taggers and we need to get away from the Gibbs/Murphy midfield setup and  re-design our onball division...

When Plowman is fit I would use him in the middle..big bodied hard working type who can carry the ball Josh Kennedy style, GWS were trying to develop him in that role but when you have Treloar and Sheil there wasnt any room for him on a regular basis...

One of the better posts I've read.

I reckon a good starting point may come form the following 25 players. Gorringe could be something and I'm keen to see how Jaksch and Smith go also along with Weitering and Cuningham.

How will Gorringe go as a genuine CHF? Not so sure. Hoping he can. Kristian Jaskch has got to surely do more than Liam Jones.

Kerridge gives us another bona fida midfielder with size and grunt to match. he's only 22 yo so he'll come through with Cripps and co.

Thought Whiley was good, Graham too.

Actually the best I've seen Thomas look and play for some time. No doubt his movement was quicker and his pace was certainly a massive leap form the previous 3 years. Honestly think it looks promising for him, so Thomas and Kerridge give us two more solid mids.

Boekhorst off half-back/wing I reckon would be good and I think Docherty could push more wing/mid this year....I'm hoping any way along with young Dylan Buckley.

Not sure if Simpson off half-back all year will be the go. Wouldn't mind him getting dangerous off the forward flank at times. he's so smart and dangerous.

rated the effort of Lamb. he's a one-touch footballer and able to make something out of half a chance ala Andy walker so up forward they'll be required.

Thought Matt Wright was solid/ I've been a fan of his for years. Handy and very good foot skills along with adding maturity, grunt and an ability to play forward/mid.

I don't mind the effort that Andrew Philips privies. Again, another big unit who moves well and has grunt. I reckon at his size, with that leap and his grunt, you don't throw them on the scrap heap so quickly.

B: Tuohy, Jamison, Weitering
Hb: Docherty, Rowe, Simpson
C: Thomas, Cripps, Gibbs
Hf: Everitt, Kreuzer, Lamb
F: Wright, Casboult, Walker
Foll: Phillips, Kerridge
Rov: Murphy (c)
I/c: Boekhorst, Buckley, E.Curnow, Graham
Emerg: Armfield, Whiley, White

Albeit slightly different positions I had the following differences to your team:

OUT:  Wright, Lamb
IN: C. Curnow, Whiley

Can't rush all the kids in but Charlie looked ready last night.  Ferocious attack and I just want to see more.

Would love to be proved wrong on Wright but he looks like a recycled player.

As for Lamb, mark this one in your record books - he is cuck.  We saw the same thing in him that Syd and GWS did and fell for it.  Scared as a little, well, I won't say it  ;D

Whilst i can appreciate that in your mind, your position on Gibbs comes from a rational, sustained analysis and keen observation over a period of time, and not as the result of personal bias or agenda, something is getting lost in translation, because your views come across as the latter rather than the former. I recall a book I read on Steve Jobs, where he was described as having a binary view of the world, and divided people into two groups, "heroes who could do no wrong", and "sh1theads who could do no good".

Gibbs may not be the greatest number 1, he may be occasionally laconic, he may never reach his potential, but as our list stands presently, he is in our best 22, and deserves a game. I would argue that he would be in the best 22 in any of other 17 teams.

I still say that is simply not possible to flim flam 3 successive, and largely independent regimes.

And really, referring to others on here as stupid or pigs doesn't help your cause either.

And Steve Jobs really struggled to get results, didn't he?

Now, to sort through the waffling.

Yes - Gibbs is in our best 22 (sadly)
No - He does not DESERVE a game, nor does anyone else.  It is a week to week thing that is earned. Unfortunately, Gibbs was deemed to have earned his spot for eternity when he was taken at pick 1, which is why he has never been dropped, whilst other who have performed better, have been.
No - he most certainly would not walk into 17 other clubs' best 22, which suggests your binary view on him as I doubt you have done any real analysis
No - calling people pigs and stupid does not detract from my opinion, and only stupid people would think it does  ::)

p.s. not everyone is a pig or stupid, the smart ones know that xx

Whiley at 188cm, 88kg a great size. looks to have bulked up considerably in the off season.

With Crippa and Kerridge (and Special K to boot) alongside, some real grunt in the inside space - and dare I say it - protection for Smurf!!

Kreuzer played a nice game didn't he? Dermott was a bit harsh on him but it's a good thing that Dermott is the only one who listens to a single thing Dermott says.
