AFL Rd 10:   Carlton vs Sydney
Rating:      E
We were broken for the first time this year.

Votes:
[4]    Nic Newman
[2]   Marc Pittonet
[2]   Blake Acres
[2]    Matthew Kennedy
[1]   Elijah Hollands
[1]   Alex Cincotta
[1]   Patrick Cripps
[0.5]   George Hewett
[0.5]   Brodie Kemp
[0.5]   Charlie Curnow
[0.5]   Harry McKay

Explanations:
It was a real chore to give votes this week. Not a lot of worthy contributors.
[4]    Nic Newman:      Our best player by some margin.
[2]   Marc Pittonet:      Beaten on the night, he still managed 11 clearances. That is Cripps-like!
[2]   Blake Acres:      A decent game and probably had the best of his opponent.
[2]    Matthew Kennedy:   An excellent negative job. He earned his money.
[1]   Elijah Hollands:   Not bad, but it could have been more.
[1]   Alex Cincotta:      Didn’t get a lot of possessions, but did a great stopping job.
[1]   Patrick Cripps:      Never gave in.
[0.5]   George Hewett:   Not bad at all, just not great. Didn’t have the pace.
[0.5]   Brodie Kemp:      Did a good job, especially after Weitering was hurt.
[0.5]   Charlie Curnow:   Kicked 2 goals and wasn’t poor, but not a game to remember.
[0.5]   Harry McKay:      Considering how the ball was (not) coming in, he and Charlie weren’t embarrassed.

Honourable Mentions:
Mitch McGovern:   Not bad, Did a job.
Sam Walsh:      Kept trying, but didn’t have a great night.

Durdin had one more effective possession than all of us on the forum last game so the bar is low.....Orazio is a 100 game plus player who should be doing a lot better in a team with two dominant big forwards imo. He probably should have started in the twos when the season began and worked into some form but injuries to other players forced his inclusion so he ended up in the deep end and has spent most of the season drowning unfortunately.
I think the ideal small forwards can take a turn in the midfield and a lot of the better ones do and I wonder if Orazio given some real minutes in the middle it might be a catalyst to get him going...
In one of the praccy matches, he had some spurts in the middle and I thought he looked ok there.

Robert Heatley Stand / Jim Park Voting 2024 AFL Rd 11 Carlton vs Gold Coast

Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos:
[1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Sam Walsh or Patrick Cripps)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading)

Perhaps he has emboldened a few, but he isn't the first in recent times by any means. Berlusconi and Orbán immediately spring to mind as forerunners. I've said a few times that the left is basically dead, and the world is shifting to the right, with barely any exceptions, and barely any resistance.

I would be very reluctant to attribute any trend setting to a bloke who has never had an original thought in his life.  I think that his success in being elected to the Presidency and getting the presumptive Republican nomination for the next election may have emboldened populist and totalitarian leaders.  They have more ruthless and successful (if I can use that word) authoritarian figures to follow, as has the likely Republican nomination himself.

@PaulP Sorry I fixed it, should have written "global politics".

I was trying to discuss Trump's influence on dud politicians in other countries, the low end bottom feeders are adopting his tactics pretty much everywhere you look! Trump's behaviour like a universal user manual for how to sh1t in the pool and peg the blame on someone else!
