We've had a number of new posters join us recently, so I just want to throw out an official welcome to everyone.
Here at CSC we're all about creating an inclusive environment for all passionate Carlton supporters. You'll find on the notice board all of the necessary information to get you started (code of conduct, 'how to' guides etc) but if you'd like to use this as a way to introduce yourselves to the group, please feel free to do so.
Please don't be shy, feel free to post and get amongst it. We encourage healthy debate and opinion (as long as it's respectful) and want as many different insights into this great game as we can get.
If you have any questions about where to post if you're starting up a new thread, or any general feedback, please don't hesitate to message myself or any of the other moderators.
I'll also kick of an introduction:
I'm Navy Maven (obviously) also known as Jell in the real world :) I'm 31, so for most of my football following life, Carlton have been pretty ordinary..don't know what that says about me, maybe I'm a glutton for punishment.
Have been posting on here for the best part of 10 years I think (gotta admit, that's gone really quickly).
Favourite current player is Jack Silvagni, favourite past player is Lance Whitnall (don't hold that against me).
Best Carlton memory.....well it used to be the '99 prelim, but after going to the inaugural AFLW match between Carlton and Collingwood, I think that's eclipsed it. Such an overwhelming sense of pride seeing that happen in front of 25,000 people at Princes Park, especially when I've played with or against a number of the women running around out there.
Here's hoping I get to see a bit more Carlton success in my next 30 odd years!

As a relative newcomer to CSC, I thought I'd offer something different to NM and Lods.
I'll share what I see as the benefits of being part of CSC.
It's provided me with:
- endless opportunity to rant anything Carlton (can't do that so much in my real life - living with Saints supporter)
- learning so much from the wisdom of others. From club history to footy analysis, structure, and position Intel to business and marketing.
- lots of laughs (my work life is pretty serious and stressful). This gives me some balance :)) that's good for my mental health
- challenge my own opinions. You get to put your 2c worth in (say about who to recruit), then see how close you were (or not as is often the case for me). It's a bit like a tipping competition, but about more than W-L. Comes with the same little thrill if you're on the money.
- perhaps most importantly, I feel like I belong to a cool group of like minded others. Anyone who sees life from a Blues perspective is a dead set legend in my book. It's a place where I can safely vent (yes I'm sooky when we lose), speculate, learn, and just have fun.
I love the diversity of opinion and look forward to hearing your views on all that is Carlton.

Doull would have been the same I'm sure but these two combine old school qualities into the modern era. Blokes like that are the heart and soul of your club

Deserves to be mentioned more than he does. Well done mate.

His mother was their host, as was the way many players were accommodated back in those days. I used to see them at the Sydney Road shops when I was a little tacker and Maurie always said "G'day". I was devastated when I heard about his car accident :(

How could I forget John? We played geriatric basketball together for 10-15 years and I still see him occasionally!
John used to get a bit embarrassed when I spoke about watching him play for the mighty Blues when I was in primary school. Interestingly, John played more games with Footscray but his allegiance is to Carlton.

They became Carlton supporters on arrival in Australia (I think it was compulsory for folk who lived in the suburb) in 1888. They came from Staffordshire but the family had lived in the Lakes District for around 5,000 years before moving. I'm an archaeologist so I take great interest in human settlement patterns and migration.
I grew up in Coburg which was in Carlton's zone and had lots of contact with Carlton players through my older brothers, footy club pie nights, etc. Brent Crosswell was a regular visitor at our home during his first few years in Melbourne.
I started going to the footy when I was about ten and I used to wear a Carlton jumper with "2" on the back. We had a spot under the Heatley stand stairs and I can remember the crowd hurling good-natured abuse at Pig-Iron Bob as he walked up the stairs. Needless to say, John Nicholls is my favourite player but I have been lucky to see so many great players over the years - not to mention a reasonable number of premierships although I wouldn't mind another in the next few years.
The game that remains fixed in my memory is a victory over Richmond in the night footy competition at Albert Park. It was notable because Ron Barassi knocked the stuffing out of Roger Dean and turned our fortunes around. Footy was a simpler, more brutal game then. When I was a little older, standing in the outer, scoffing a few beers and pies, and queuing at the urinals in between watching legends like Doull, Jesaulenko, Swan McKay, Percy Jones, Wallsy, Perovic and many others do their thing was the best way to spend a Saturday arvo.
I have been a regular on this site for a few years now and I find it really informative and entertaining. I'm a little disappointed that we have lost some of the stalwarts from years gone by but the discussions are still lively and reflect diverse views on everything from Mick Malthouse to the POTUS.

He was my first sporting hero! The first game I saw him in I just watched him all arvo (turned out to be one of his last games). He was brilliant and such a tragedy when he died in that car accident. I was only a kid but I was inconsolable. You're right, he deserves far more acknowledgment.
When my folks first came to Melbourne in the 1960's they stayed in Parkville because it was cheap. I can remember the cobbled lanes and we would walk to the footy using these as short cuts. On the Princes Hill side was a lane and dad would always point at a high woodem gate and say "Jezza lives there". In the same area was a woman called Molly Malone and she had a caustic tank and we used to take windows and doors to her and get the paint stripped off... she also had a cockatoo that used to scream obscenities at pedestrians walking past. Does anybody remember that?
Later we moved to Coburg and Wallsy was a teacher at school - Carlton North P.S. - the players were really embedded in the local community back then. Sometimes you would see players catching trams etc to and from training and games etc.
We then moved to

Started barracking for the mighty bluebaggers when my dad dragged me along to games in the sixties.
Early favourite players: Gary Crane, Ian Robertson (great exponent of the drop kick), Ian Collins (I had #19 on my jumper and tried to wipe out opposition players - like Collo did - when I used to play the game).
Best football memory: getting a stiff neck from sitting in one of the front rows (between the goal posts) at the Ponsford end during the 1972 GF and repeatedly watching the ball sail over my head as the Tiggers copped their just deserts.
Best player and inspirational coach: John Nicholls.
Best memory: Dragging my two sons along to games to keep the history repeating.

I've been on this site (and a few others) for some years now. I joined because I was desperate to talk about Carlton's recruiting and my wife wouldn't know Alex Jesaulenko from Alexander III of Macedon.
I found out recently that my great great uncle played for Carlton back in about 1868, a young bloke named Azzopardi with Maltese roots who had a strong Scottish accent. I was impressed. We've been Carlton supporters ever since.
I'm a moderator around here now. I've been a member of Carlton since 1974. I was 3 (1964) when Carlton had their worst season to that point. It was then that I decided to follow the family tradition. My father, a Hawthorn supporter, was horrified. By the time I was actively going to games, we were damn good. In fact, the first game I saw live was at the MCG when Jezza kicked his 100th goal for the season against Melbourne.
Collingwood and Essendon head my faecal pantheon. Richmond tried hard for supremacy: I will never forgive them for the 1973 GF, the first saw live. However, the Cheats and the Meat Pies still managed to drag their way to their present place.
I don't think I have a single favourite player. I grew up in a great time and saw many of the true superstars play. I also used to watch the U19s when I could, as I was fascinated by our recruiting even then. One of my former work mates, Scott Langan, found it amazing that I could remember seeing him waltz around in our U19s as a 16 year old. I also recall Ange Christou walking around Arden St after we had just lost in the U19s, wearing a Collingwood Guernsey. Yes, he was an ignorant kid back then, unaware that his future was in Blue. :)
I like David Parkin as a coach. I heard him speak any number of times live. He could motivate me to walk through walls. I heard Tom Hafey speak also: he couldn't have made me get out of bed even if I wanted to wake up. (He was a great coach: the number demonstrate it, but he never got on with intellectuals, and I am probably an intellectual. :) I am a Maths/Chemistry/Physics teacher.)
My favourite games are many: the 1970 GF was amazing. The 1999 PF also holds pride of place. However, the H&A game I remember best was at Windy Hill. We kicked 14 goals in the 2nd quarter, which lasted about 40 minutes with all of the goals and brawls. Swan McKay got reported after some Essendon thuggery. It stimulated him into kicking 8 goals that day.
I am about as Aussie as you can get. My last foreign born ancestor landed here in the 1880's work in the Beaconsfield Gold Mine from Cornwall. I have Scottish, English, Irish, Maltese, German and Shetland Islander heritage, with the earliest arriving in 1802, to be sent to Tasmania.
I have seen some firsts, but one of my favourites is the AFLW initial game between Carlton and Collingwood. A great occasion.

When I was 11 or 12 I used to get bouts of tonsillitis and be off school for a week or so and our doctor on a home visit brought a copy of The Carlton Story pub. 1958 to read. I was amazed at the history of the club.
So many, many years later when I stumbled onto the newly created Blueseum, I was in blue heaven, and as no-one was doing the Pre VFL section I jumped in.
So now I'm heavily involved with the Carlton history web-site, Blueseum (www.blueseum.org)
Blueseum has a bio page on every Carlton player from 1864 onwards, more than 2100 players, plus Reserve and Under 19 grade players. The site currently has over 40,000 images including many team photos dating from 1868 onwards. Pre VFL Image pages, and year by year Image Galleries from 1897. Year by year details with most match details 1864-1896 and then round by round pages for each year from 1897 onwards. Stories about Princes Park, articles, memorabilia, membership tickets, etc. etc.
It's a real treasure trove of all things Carlton.

I'm blueycarlton just an occasional poster on this and other forums.
Both my parents and their parents were Carlton supporters, so the family's allegiance goes back into the 19th century. My dad first took me to Princes Park in the late 1950's. He grew up not far from the ground and I've been told he knew a few people at the club back then. So my children did not have any choice when it comes to Carlton. When I was 11 or 12 I used to get bouts of tonsillitis and be off school for a week or so and our doctor on a home visit brought a copy of The Carlton Story pub. 1958 to read. I was amazed at the history of the club.
So many, many years later when I stumbled onto the newly created Blueseum, I was in blue heaven, and as no-one was doing the Pre VFL section I jumped in.
So now I'm heavily involved with the Carlton history web-site, Blueseum (www.blueseum.org)
Blueseum has a bio page on every Carlton player from 1864 onwards, more than 2100 players, plus Reserve and Under 19 grade players. The site currently has over 40,000 images including many team photos dating from 1868 onwards. Pre VFL Image pages, and year by year Image Galleries from 1897. Year by year details with most match details 1864-1896 and then round by round pages for each year from 1897 onwards. Stories about Princes Park, articles, memorabilia, membership tickets, etc. etc.
It's a real treasure trove of all things Carlton.
To all you Carlton barrackers out there, volunteers are most welcome to contribute to Blueseum.

Too True, Awesome Work! been watching some old matches pre 80s etc and its amazing just from video the development of the game, i can only imagine how many great stories you have to share :)
The Blueseum is a great resource that I have used numerous times. It's a great site, especially considering it is only run by volunteers.

I've been on this site (and a few others) for some years now. I joined because I was desperate to talk about Carlton's recruiting and my wife wouldn't know Alex Jesaulenko from Alexander III of Macedon.
I found out recently that my great great uncle played for Carlton back in about 1868, a young bloke named Azzopardi with Maltese roots who had a strong Scottish accent. I was impressed. We've been Carlton supporters ever since.
I'm a moderator around here now. I've been a member of Carlton since 1974. I was 3 (1964) when Carlton had their worst season to that point. It was then that I decided to follow the family tradition. My father, a Hawthorn supporter, was horrified. By the time I was actively going to games, we were damn good. In fact, the first game I saw live was at the MCG when Jezza kicked his 100th goal for the season against Melbourne.
Collingwood and Essendon head my faecal pantheon. Richmond tried hard for supremacy: I will never forgive them for the 1973 GF, the first saw live. However, the Cheats and the Meat Pies still managed to drag their way to their present place.
I don't think I have a single favourite player. I grew up in a great time and saw many of the true superstars play. I also used to watch the U19s when I could, as I was fascinated by our recruiting even then. One of my former work mates, Scott Langan, found it amazing that I could remember seeing him waltz around in our U19s as a 16 year old. I also recall Ange Christou walking around Arden St after we had just lost in the U19s, wearing a Collingwood Guernsey. Yes, he was an ignorant kid back then, unaware that his future was in Blue. :)
I like David Parkin as a coach. I heard him speak any number of times live. He could motivate me to walk through walls. I heard Tom Hafey speak also: he couldn't have made me get out of bed even if I wanted to wake up. (He was a great coach: the number demonstrate it, but he never got on with intellectuals, and I am probably an intellectual. :) I am a Maths/Chemistry/Physics teacher.)
My favourite games are many: the 1970 GF was amazing. The 1999 PF also holds pride of place. However, the H&A game I remember best was at Windy Hill. We kicked 14 goals in the 2nd quarter, which lasted about 40 minutes with all of the goals and brawls. Swan McKay got reported after some Essendon thuggery. It stimulated him into kicking 8 goals that day.
I am about as Aussie as you can get. My last foreign born ancestor landed here in the 1880's work in the Beaconsfield Gold Mine from Cornwall. I have Scottish, English, Irish, Maltese, German and Shetland Islander heritage, with the earliest arriving in 1802, to be sent to Tasmania.
I have seen some firsts, but one of my favourites is the AFLW initial game between Carlton and Collingwood. A great occasion.
That Windy Hill game was the first I ever saw, my dear old Bomber supporting nan brought me down from Ballarat to stay with her ancient sister for the weekend, we travelled on the old red rattlers with the steel feet warmers, and the tea lady. Never forgot the endless second quarter, and the all in, what an introduction for a ten year old!!

I have spent a few days in the bush with blueycarlton (we have the same type of camper trailer and occasionally get together with other folk who also have the same model).
It's great chewing the fat with someone who shares your passion for the mighty Blues :)

Aahh the old carriages. I had a day out a year to two ago on the Double Header Spectacular train doing the Spencer St - Castlemaine - Muckleford - Maldon line run on the Victorian Goldfields Railway. The individual compartments, the foot warmers and radiators connected to hot water warmed by the locomotives steam. Standing on the balcony of the front car behind the locomotive getting covered in coal dust and soot, the good old days!
