Sounds like a scrappy game on the wireless. Just chipping the ball around, then turnovers, from both teams.

Walks has the opening goal, against the run of play.

Playing like a team lacking leadership atm , no real direction. Lots of kicking back ward. Ugly to watch. Plenty of the ball but no structure at all.

St Kilda too quick for us so far, hopefully we'll match them up better when the pace goes off the game.
Really missing Murphy this week.

Post by: bignic on June 12, 2016, 01:49:46 pm
last week, I had a go at the team because instead of burying Brisbane, they played like Millionaires. I said that playing like that can infect a team and is a bad habit to get into. i also criticised Gibbs for a lack lustre performance which continues today.

We should be down by 5 goals. Too much handball, to many short kicks, no real system going forward, it's kick it in and hope for the best, and a ruckman in Gorringe who is serviceable at best and hopeless at the centre bounces at worst.

The mental attitude that was patently obvious in the first quarter meant that the players think like a comment earlier on this thread, that with so many of their better players out, this game will win itself.

they need to play this as if they are playing Geelong, otherwise this game will go down as a disaster for the club going into the bye.

They want it more at this point in time.
Tackling is virtually non existent and very poor.
Everritt in particular is a hopeless tackler and is having one of his regular, i have arrived at the ground, I'm on the ground, and now I'm going home games.

Post by: LoveNavy on June 12, 2016, 02:19:56 pm
Hmmmm saints all over us, aside for some solid patches. We need to bring more patches and stick the tackles.

Lamb fabulous qtr. Need others to lift and get the cohesion working.
Title: Re: Rd 12: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs St. Kilda
Post by: bignic on June 12, 2016, 02:21:16 pm
The intensity did lift in the last 5 minutes, but still not right there yet.

Stkilda have had 13 more tackles than us.

I am sick and tired watching our players run past the opponent who has the ball, rather than at him.

White and Everitt and Gorringe have been useless. And all walker wants to do is take a speccy. can't take a contested mark to save his life.

Saints speed really worrying us and they have also done well in the ruck...they been watching the videos on how we play and have zoned off well forcing us back and overusing the ball. Reckon having Reiwoldt out has helped them...he wouldnt have kicked straight like Membrey..

Cripps been well tagged by Dunstan and Curnow struggling with Jack Stevens pace...
Title: Re: Rd 12: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs St. Kilda
Post by: shawny on June 12, 2016, 02:24:25 pm
They are a lot faster in the midfield which was always a worry for me esp with Murphy out.

But to compound things they are working harder across the ground to make space and cutting us up like I haven't seen this year.

Cant see us winning this.

I know we miss Murphy, but with him in and them having their 6 players that they lost in, we'd be losing by 10 goals!
Title: Re: Rd 12: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs St. Kilda
Post by: bignic on June 12, 2016, 02:26:51 pm
Bottom line is this.

If they come out with the same attitude that they played the first half, they are gone.

Post by: Robblues on June 12, 2016, 02:30:15 pm
No sign of the fast breaks , and drilled play we have shown over the last few weeks. Playing the game on the saints terms arm. It was evident in the first 15mins of the first qtr no direction, trying to play the short game , got caught out quickly. We did not seem in the zone from the first bounce. Hope we can re aim in the second half and control our play better
Title: Re: Rd 12: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs St. Kilda
Post by: LoveNavy on June 12, 2016, 02:30:32 pm
19 down at the long break.
We need to improve at clearances / stoppages.
Went OK when we got first ball use - just not enough of it.

Hope to see Crippa and Gibbs lift for 2nd half to give us a chance.

Docherty and Plowman have been solid. Love to see Byrne get his hands on ita bit more.

Go Blues

Post by: cookie2 on June 12, 2016, 02:31:54 pm
Simply put, they beat us easily in the clearances and out-pressured us all around the ground. We also missed a couple of easy chances late in the second. Anyway, I thought we were beginning to look better late in the 2nd so let's hope we can get our act together after half time.
Title: Re: Rd 12: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs St. Kilda
Post by: blue4life on June 12, 2016, 02:33:24 pm
We're getting murdered at the clearances and Casboult, Everitt, Walker and White are having very little influence.
Abundant skill errors, indecision and poor handling.
It's hard to see a turnaround but if we get out of this it will show some real character.

Cast your minds back to the first quarter against the lions last week. We played exactly the same, but the Lions couldn't take advantage of it.

One more thing. For a bloke whose now played the game for around 7 years, Zac Touhey is one of the great disappointments. He has absolutely no finesse with his ball handling, can't think under pressure, and gets caught time and again. I wish he was half as good as Sam Doc.

My pet hate, the amount of times we have broken on the wing & half forward , had to turn around , go back , side ways etc because we have no structured forward lines. We don't see what the players can see at the time, but have to assume there is no clear Orion or at least a contest to kick to. . We then seem to turn it over and it's costs us.

If you want the definition of brainless, its Kerridge. Steven kicks the ball and goals. After he's kicked it, Kerridge pushes him over the boundary. Should have been 50 up
the ground, but umpire obviously didn't bother. Kerridge did it in the second quarter and gave away 50. Some blokes never learn.

Carried the poor attitude of last week's 2nd half into this week. It's actually a disgraceful effort.

St.Kilda has been proven this year that it is one side you don't come in half-@rsed. North, Hawthorn and Melbourne will attest to that.

Maybe next week we'll select blokes that a actually kicking a heap of goals in the VFL.

Really opened us up out of the centre, clean possessions out of the centre , and we have no answer at all

It's been like this since the opening bounce. Little or no response from us.

Today clearly highlights our lack of a key forward. We have no go to person at all. Casboult will not be the person, love Levi but he is not the main man, will be a great side kick. Wish McKay was available the last few weeks . When Everitt kicks his 3-4 goals , he is valuable, but when he doesn't do that doesn't do anything , and is a real liability , can't carry much longer

And the winner is.............

At least we're having a good time. Nobody else is.

We would like to see them do well. But it would be an absolute injustice to the club, if we even had a sniff of making the 8.

We need another clean out, and decent draft picks and trades.

We will not win a flag or have a chance to win one, with blokes like Everitte, White, Gorringe, Mathew Wright, just not good enough, Walker gone, Rowe, Sumner, the jury's out and some others. Jacksh would need to improve 200% toi get to the required standard. kerridge lacks foot and hand skills. Curnow is too slow, and his handball skills are non-existent. Thomas, just a shadow of what he was. Gibbs, is in and out.

It's the Charlie Curnow's Harry macks, Jack Silvagni's and Weiterings that are the hope of this side. Kreuzer if he stands up, Cripps, who I reckon is playing injured,  Docherty, Ploughman, Bierne, and hopefully Sheehan and a couple of others.

And one more thing.

Our coach has been totally outclassed today by a seasoned performer.

He also has got a lot to learn. I'm sure he will, but as he says, it's a journey.

They aren't up to it.

When you have 2 blokes kicking goals on a weekly basis in the VFL and don't pick them this is what happens. Casboult should be helping Kreuzer in the ruck, that's his best when he's in the dual role. Kreuzer once again is crap to useless when he has to share the ruck duties. If he does it on his own then he's an entirely different player and stars. We've seen this for years.

That non-tackle by Thomas resulting in the goal, is symptomatic of the tackling or lack thereof on the day.

We have continuously run past the player with the ball, rather than at him.

The last couple of months have been pretty good bignic. Today is an aberration in comparison.

Absolutely agree, PP.

But, I reckon that games like this, actually put the focus on the usual suspects.

What you have in the wins, is the good players, bringing the spuds into the game.

Every team has got spuds, but the lower teams like us, have more than the Hawks, Swans etc.

I know for  a fact, that those who make the decisions, are fully aware of the weaknesses, which is why you will hear Bolton repeating the mantra about the long journey.

They are also aware that he is also on  a learning curve, and their aim is to give him the material that will enable him to take us to the next level.

What Bolts has proven, is that with a team re-pleat with spuds, he has had them playing above their weight.

I am really looking forward to watching Charlie Curnow, Harry mack hopefully play a few and Son of Jo play a few.

I know that they are building a war chest to get a big name player to the club. Watch this space.

We are building to a very exciting future, and the bottom line is not to get carried away too much by big wins, or drop the bundle by losses like today, knowing that we have at least 6 spuds in the team who won't be there next year.

It is a bad loss, in fact it is a really poor showing and some players in particular let themselves down, but that is okay. That is expected, Bolton has stated he doesn't want them getting to high or too low. Well for the first time we have lost a game we were clear favourites for and now we need to show that we can take lessons from it and continue to grow
I don't mind losses this year, whilst wanting to win each one of course

Agree, they know our list is no where near flag material.
Question is how do we find 4 top 25 picks this year and next.
Too many of us see the team win but don't realise we have major deficiencies still.
Gibbs is a great example, has probably played 4 good games this year but 5/6 pretty poor ones.
When he is poor he doesn't contribute.
Everett the same.
Walker the same without the good games.
