Title: 2018 Jim Park Medal Analysis
Post by: crashlander on March 18, 2018, 11:02:07 am
With the season just a few days away and expectations of an improved on field performance high, it is with interest that I start up this year's Jim Park Medal Thread.
Voting last year was patchy, with the votes coming from as few as 12 people one week to 24 the next. Hopefully we can perform in such a way as to make our people vote.

But I have a 1t question before I set up the spreadsheet and let it rip: do we want to retain the Jim Park Award as it is?

It works fine as is.  No need to change anything.

The only thing I would change is to have everyone award the same votes, ie 3,2,1 or 5,4,3,2,1, but some folk like to award half votes   ;)

Keep it as it is  :)

I'd keep it 5,4,3,2,1 but get rid of the 1/2 votes.

You can hand out as many 1 votes as you like so 1/2 votes are rubbish in my opinion.

It's a unique voting system that provides a lot of flexibility when voting and I like that.

The 1/2 votes really do need to go though, they are a complete farce IMO.

There needs to be a limit on how many players can get votes.
10 players getting votes in 10 goal losses is just giving them out for participation.

I always find it hard to vote accurately, the game goes over four quarters, but, then you have to decide who was best across the whole game.  I think a quarter by quarter slide scale would be great, this would give you an accurate picture of how effective players were across the game.

Having said all this, I appreciate it takes time and probably not many people would be bothered to do it. It would be great to see how it came out though versus the 1,2,3 picks.

I agree, for me having 1/2 votes is pointless, if you allow giving 1/2 votes then every player can get a vote! I must admit, I'm probably guility of handing out some 1/2 votes as well.

If we got rid of the 1/2 votes there would be a natural limit, and it would become much easier for the mods to tally and manage.

I give more 0.5 votes and combos than anyone else. It is the way I can mix around the votes and still mention those who deserve mentioning.
Similarly, I tend to give a lot of guys votes: I am trying to reward players who deserve a mention but who miss out because they don't get 40 possessions each week. Especially our defenders who may not get much of the ball at all, but who dominate their opponents. And when we lose there are often a number of players who deserve something.

I don't think i voted at all last year, but have voted heavily previously.

I like the system, including the 1/2 votes.

As crash says, it allows you to spread the votes around to more players when it is deserving.

I voted in all but 2 or 3 games last year and will try and do the same again.  I voted 54321 each time..

just my opinion but I think it would make more sense if everyone voted the same way ?   ie 321 or 54321 or whatever the majority thinks

Split 15 votes in half and you could have a maximum of 30 half votes. There are only 22 players on the team, that (in my humble opinion) is simply ridiculous.

It's a competition, only 1 person will win in the end (although it is interesting and entertaining to see who places in the top 10), not every player needs or deserves a participation ribbon for every game played.

Across all voters any players that deserves a vote will normally get a mention.

What would you do under this scenario.

Casboult kicks 12 goals.
Murphy and Cripps both have 30 touches and kick 2 goals.
Nobody else really stands out.

10 Casboult
2.5 Murphy
2.5 Cripps

You could argue
9 Casboult
3 Murphy
3 Cripps

...but Casboult had a 'perfect' game, so why rob him of a vote? It'd be unfair to split Cripps and Murphy as their output is identical.

Of course there is a million permutations that could go on, this is just a simplistic example to prove a point.

No one ever has identical games, even if the stats do say so, I would find a way to split them some how...

Chances are someone else would split them the other way and they come out even anyway!!

Or what if you were employed by someone to vote in a 5,4,3,2,1 format on the game scenario you provided? Do you quit the job or do you find a way to vote the in way you are required?

Well if they're split one way by you, and another way by someone else, i have no choice but to give them the same. ;)

Personally what i do is i work out who i want to give votes too first, then i work out how had the better games...and how much better they were than someone else. I adjust the votes to fit all the players i want in there. Sometimes 3, sometimes 10.

It was easier when Judd was in full flight.  I found myself writing Judd and giving him most of the votes he was that good and that much better than the next guy.

OK, ladies and gentlemen, it is time to look at Round #1!

Carlton vs Richmond at the MCG on a Thursday night.

Votes:
Cripps, Patrick 382
Curnow, Charles 245
Simpson, Kade 238
Marchbank, Caleb 151
Wright, Matthew 139
Fisher, Zac 34
Thomas, Dale 22
Curnow, Edward 21
Kreuzer, Matthew 19
Murphy, Marc 14
Garlett, Jarrod 5
Petrevski - Seton, Sam 5

That is 12 players who deserved a mention for creditable performances in a loss. We shoud and must see positive things in this result.

Progressive Votes:
382 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
245 - Curnow, Charles (0)
238 - Simpson, Kade (0)
151 - Marchbank, Caleb (0)
149 - Wright, Matthew (0)
35 - Fisher, Zac (0)
23 - Thomas, Dale (0)
21 - Curnow, Edward (0)
19 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0)
14 - Murphy, Marc (0)
5 - Garlett, Jarrod (0)
5 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0)

25 voters this time, up from 24 this time last year.
Cripps was easy rated as our best.
Simpson's game in this round was one of his best: his judgement was excellent and he turned it over rarely. That compares poorly to his Round #2 effort, where his judgement was ordinary and his turnovers were numerous.
Kreuzer probably didn't get the votes he could have got, as his injury had a considerable influence on the game. From that point on Nankervis got into the game and Richmond's midfield started getting clearances.
The rating for this game 8.56, which is between a C+ and B-, a rare event indeed for a game we did not win.

Right, let's consider Round 2. Not one of our better efforts. We rated the game 6.00. Getting a whole number is spooky enough, but a 6 represents E, something of a come-down after our effort in Round #1.

We had our chance at pontificating as to why. How close to the 'truth' we get is interesting.
Still, the great minds have met and the votes are in:

Carlton vs. Gold Coast

Votes:
Curnow, Edward 226
Cripps, Patrick 157
Curnow, Charles 141
Fisher, Zac 92
Murphy, Marc 92
Petrevski - Seton, Sam 76
Mullett, Aaron 30
Simpson, Kade 21
Marchbank, Caleb 18
Thomas, Dale 16
Garlett, Jarrod 11
Jones, Liam 11
Wright, Matthew 7
Cuningham, David 4

The rating really affected the votes. Last week Cripps got 382. This week's leader, Ed Curnow, got 226. That is a hell of a difference.
However, we had only 1 less person getting votes. We did some things right last week, but not enough not often enough.

17 people voted this week, down from 25 last week. That said, with such a terrible game, it is not surprising people did not want to vote.

Simmo's game here really shows the dichotomy in his play as he gets older. Last week his judgement was near perfect. This round his judgement was as poor as it ever has been. Hopefully Round 3 will be like Round 1.

Progressive Votes:
539 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
386 - Curnow, Charles (0)
260 - Simpson, Kade (0)
247 - Curnow, Edward (0)
169 - Marchbank, Caleb (0)

19 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0)
16 - Garlett, Jarrod (0)
11 - Jones, Liam (0)
4 - Cuningham, David (0)

Cripps has got out to a small lead at this point. Charlie is coming 2nd, with Simmo and Ed Curnow close in 3rd and 4th.
At this point 15 players have got votes in our 2 games.

Rd 3: Carlton vs Collingwood: what a disaster! We rated the game poorly, as would be expected. It actually scores a little better than last week, averaged 6.25, which represents an E+, more or less. I guess, as we lost by 4 goals, that it wasn't a total dead loss, but ... :(
Carlton vs Collingwood;

Another week where the leader scored less than 300, but where few players scored even reasonably.
14 players deserved a mention, which is not that bad, as only 17 players have managed a mention over the 3 games we've had.

16 people voted this week, down from 22 for this round last year. :( But unless we play decently, people do not vote. I can understand that.

Hopefully a good performance in the next few weeks will bring the voters out.

Progressive Voting:
569 - Cripps, Patrick (0)

Patrick Cripps and Charlie Curnow have cleared out somewhat, with Simpson leading the chasing pelaton.

Rd 4: Carlton vs North Melbourne in Hobart.
This has been one of the worst performances in recent years, as we were simply noncompetitive for much of the game. I haven't seen so many F's being given.
A rating of 5.5 is an F+, probably the lowest rating since the days of Malthouse. :(
However, for an interstate game we did get 16 votes, 3 more than the corresponding game last year.

Votes:
Thomas, Dale 223
Curnow, Edward 212
Cripps, Patrick 153

Silvagni, Jack 14
Fisher, Zac 7

Surprisingly 15 players got a mention, but the last 8 of these scored 17 or less. Only the top couple made contributions of significance.

Rd 5: Carlton vs West Coast at the MCG
A small crowd of 27000 saw a much better Carlton, but not one good enough to win yet. Still, there were lots of positives to come out of this game.

The rating was 8.02, which represents a C. That is very good considering that we did not win.
There were also 19 people who voted this week, compared to 16 last week and 17 for the same game in 2017.

Votes:

McKay, Harrison 49
Dow, Patrick 19
O'Brien, Lochie 8

Patrick Cripps had a huge game, with one of the highest scores ever for a non-win. 397 is massive.
Surprisingly there were only 13 vote winners: there were more last year and last round!

It is officially the worst start to a season that Carlton has ever experienced. We showed a bit, but we are still very light on at the moment and will be for a few more weeks.  :-[

The rating for this game was 6.59, which represents a D-, more or less.
This week 18 people voted, compared to 19 last week and 26 for the same round last year (which we won).  :-[

Cripps is almost 1000 points ahead at this point and appears to be the early favourite. With our injuries, the competition isn't quite there yet.
However, behind him the competition is fierce! There are 6 players in the 500's, followed by gap of about 200 to Casboult.
Silvagni is at the foot of the leader board, but at least he has some votes. There are guys out there who have played and haven't bothered the scorer at all.
It would be nice to see some of our recruits for this season in the numbers as well. None of them has scored more than 38 votes so far (Garlett, and he was dropped last week).

If we could erase this game from our memories ...
What a disaster. The rating for this game was 5.31, which represents an F+. That is one of the worst rating I have ever seen. And it was probably an accurate assessment of what happened on the field.

There was one 4 quarter player out there last week: Patrick Cripps. His score really stood out from the rest. In fact, had we played like we did against Essendon, Cripps score would have been worth around 600. That was how we saw this effort.

Comfortably in 2nd spot, Nick Graham's game appeared to have pleased nobody in the coaches' box: he was dropped for the game against Geelong, 6 days later. I not only find this amazing, but I am sure it will end up with Graham moving  on at the end of the season.

Quite surprisingly, 15 different players were awarded votes. This is unusual and tends to occur more when we win. I would scratch my head more, but for the fact that most of these votes were for cameos or effort. Kreuzer, for example, was thrashed in the ruck all day, but he still garnered votes because of his effort.

Slightly updated  :o :o

If we could erase this game from our memories ...
What a disaster. The rating for this game was 5.29, which represents an F+ barely. That is one of the worst rating I have ever seen. And it was probably an accurate assessment of what happened on the field.

Rd 10: Carlton vs Geelong at Geelong

We had 15 voters this week, which is pretty good considering. There are not many games in Victoria that I miss, but ...
This time last year we had 21 voters. Last week we had 14. :(

We played better against Geelong, but we don't have the maturity or the decision making at the moment.

The rating was 7.84, which represents a C-. Well, we did lose.

Votes:
Cripps, Patrick 377
Plowman, Lachlan 199
Curnow, Edward 152
Simpson, Kade 146
Jones, Liam 89
Kreuzer, Matthew 84
Fisher, Zac 52
Petrevski - Seton, Sam 37
Dow, Patrick 31
Thomas, Dale 10

We a much improved performance we still only had 10 players who for a mention. :(
Plowman had his best game for the year and attracted attention.

Something to consider, as we are stuck firmly on the bottom, is the list of voting in last year's Jim Park Award:

Top Ten:
4291 - Kreuzer, Matthew: Struggling for last year's form. Got injured during the opening round and hasn't been the same since.
3634 - Murphy, Marc: Barely been on the field due to injury and was not at his best when he was there.
3094 - Docherty, Sam: His knee injury meant that he will probably miss the entire season
2462 - Gibbs, Bryce: Traded to Adelaide :(
1615 - Cripps, Patrick: Playing with niggles all the time and still one of the best mids in the business!
1421 - Curnow, Charles: Continuing to improve, though he has also missed a couple of games.
1355 - Jones, Liam: Started the season poorly as the key defender, but has found his mojo and is back playing well.
973 - Simpson, Kade: Getting older and his disposal is getting worse. Still tries his guts out each week.
811 - Plowman, Lachlan: Well down on last year, but is appearing to be returning to form.
801 - Wright, Matthew: Had an awful year so far, but is working hard.

Appraisal:
[1] Of our top ten players last year, only three are playing as well or better. Of the top five, one is no longer there, two are long term injured and the other two have had to play through niggles or worse.
[2] Kreuzer had basically an injury free year last year and it showed with his brilliant form. He was one of the best rucks in the competition. This year he started the year in the same dominating form, but got injured in the 3rd quarter. Since then he has been back, but he is clearly not 100%. One clear thing is that he is not jumping as high or as confidently as he did before he was injured. And we have been thrashed in the ruck at times.
[3] With Docherty out, we have missed his drive from defence and the confidence he gives his team mates. It is also unfortunate that the players earmarked to take his spot have not been available through injury. So much so that none of choices has played more than 3 games (Byrne).
[4] How many other clubs could handle the effective removal of 3 of their top five and injury to a 4th? I don't think many could.
[5] One of the real negatives is that the next rank of player, 6 - 10, only two are playing better and one of those is the Charlie Curnow. That is something that the players and coaches must take some responsibility for.

Places 11 - 20
789 - Casboult, Levi: broken rib
736 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam: not playing as well
663 - Curnow, Edward: In career best form.
504 - Kerridge, Sam: Started in the twos but has come back strongly in recent weeks.
441 - Weitering, Jacob: Really struggled and had to dropped. On the way back.
432 - Marchbank, Caleb: Wasn't playing that well, but has been injured for extended periods.
405 - Rowe, Sam: Came back from injury well.
401 - Silvagni, Alex: has not been able to play this year so far.
318 - Silvagni, Jack: Started very poorly, and went back to the seconds. On the way back.
189 - Thomas, Dale: Better than he was last year.

Appraisal:
[1] Four out of ten have been as good or better. Six of them are either injured or below form. Of those, Ed Curnow has been in career best form and has been a tackling machine. Daisy Thomas is playing his best football for us.
[2] Sam Rowe's return has been a massive plus, especially as Alex Silvagni has not been available at all. he has stabilized our defence and allowed Jones to play his sort of game.

The rest:
121 - Williamson, Tom: One of those slated for Docherty's spot. he will miss the entire season.
120 - Pickett, Jarrod: In career best form until injured and has not played a game as yet.
96 - Lamb, Jed: Getting a game and being a pest.
89 - Fisher, Zac: Improving strongly.
88 - Boekhorst, Blaine: Gone.
80 - Cuningham, David: Missed some games with injury, but has generally been below the form we require.
79 - White, Simon: Gone
75 - Graham, Nick: Not in favour
44 - McKay, Harrison: Improving.
27 - Macreadie, Harrison: Injured for effectively the entire season. He was also slated to replace Docherty.
4 - Byrne, Ciaran: In poor form before he was injured. Another replacement for Docherty unable to take his place.

I don't like being at the bottom, but injury is major problem. We have too many people down compared to last year. Not enough players have improved enough.

Present Top Ten:
2579 - Cripps, Patrick: Up from 5th
1315 - Curnow, Edward: Not in the top 10 last year.
966 - Thomas, Dale: Not in the top 10 last year.
822 - Simpson, Kade: Up from 8th.
755 - Fisher, Zac: Not in the top 10 last year.
650 - Curnow, Charles: Not in the top 10 last year.
559 - Kreuzer, Matthew: Down from #1.
332 - Jones, Liam: Down from 7th.
297 - Murphy, Marc: Down from 2nd and unavailable for most of the year.
291 - Casboult, Levi: Up from 11th, but injured for weeks.

This shows promise.

Jim Park Award Rd 11: Carlton vs Sydney
We led at half time, but couldn't seal the deal. Pity.  :-[ We didn't deserve to lose by 5 goals, but that is just another one of those things.

We didn't a lot of voters this week, following the game at Geelong last week. This week 13 people voted. 15 people voted in the Geelong game. What that shows I know not.
For the same round last year we had 23 voters, celebrating a win.  :(

12 different players deserved a mention this week. Last week we had only 10.

This week's rating was 7.7, down just a tiny bit from last week. This is still as C-.

The Votes:
Jones, Liam 281
Curnow, Edward 221
Kerridge, Sam 194
Silvagni, Jack 120
Rowe, Sam 81
Curnow, Charles 60
Fisher, Zac 54
Simpson, Kade 45
Weitering, Jacob 42
Dow, Patrick 24
Kreuzer, Matthew 18
Cripps, Patrick 15
Wright, Matthew 12

Liam Jones was voted as our best player, comfortably ahead of Ed Curnow and Sam Kerridge.
It was very nice to see Jack Silvagni and Jacob Weitering in the votes.
This was Cripps' lowest score for the year. His next lowest was 29 votes.

Progressive Scores:
2594 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
1537 - Curnow, Edward (0)
966 - Thomas, Dale (0)
866 - Simpson, Kade (0)
809 - Fisher, Zac (0)

57 - McKay, Harrison (0)
54 - Garlett, Jarrod (0)
42 - Weitering, Jacob (0)
37 - Mullett, Aaron (0)
22 - Kennedy, Matthew (0)

Paddy Cripps still leads by over a thousand votes. Ed Curnow has opened a considerable gap between him and the rest of the pack. Daisy Thomas come next, ahead of a group of players who are one really good game apart.

What a disaster!

The rating, 5.08, is the lowest I can remember. It represents F. It is also the only time that only 1 voter did not score the team an F. Embarrassing!
For all that, 14 guys got a mention. That is higher than in some of our wins. I guess it says that a lot of guys did a bit, but very few did enough.

What a difference a week makes! A pity we couldn't win.  :(
Round 14: Carlton vs Collingwood

[1] This week's rating was 8.2, almost a perfect C, as compared to 5.02 last week (the lowest rating I can remember). Pity we couldn't pull off the win, but we did as well as we could with the players off the field that we had.
[2] 18 people voted this week, compared to 15 this time last year and 13 last week.

Another very strong performance that didn't quite make it. Considering the personnel we have at the moment, we did adequately. As for Simmo, what a way to play your 300th! Just a pity we couldn't get the job done.  :-[

This week's rating was 7.74, just a little lower than last week (8.2). This represents a C-.
This round had only 13 voters, down from 16 last year and 18 last week. That was quite disappointing.

Yet another disaster. :(

The rating, 5.00, was literally the lowest that it could be. It is exactly an F. Very disappointing.

Rd 18: Carlton vs Hawthorn
Another disaster, but at least some of the signs were more positive.

We rated the game a 5.81, which is considerably better than last week's 5 (the lowest it can be). It isn't good, but the St. Kilda game was a disaster.
14 players got a mention, one of the highest spreads we've ever had.
This week there were 12 voters, one better than this time last year, but 3 down on last week.

It would be good to see how the Jim Park winners compare to the John Nicholls winners over the years.

Jim Park Medal

2013: 1st Simpson 2nd Judd 3rd Henderson
2014: 1st Gibbs 2nd Murphy 3rd Simpson
2015: 1st Cripps 2nd Murphy 3rd Bell
2016: 1st Docherty 2nd Gibbs 3rd Cripps
2017: 1st Kreuzer 2nd Murphy 3rd Docherty

Pretty sure Judd won 4 in row from 2008-2011, think Lappin won in 2004, Kouta 2005?

Rd 20: Carlton vs GWS
What a disaster. :( And it scared off the voters. There were 13 this week, compared to 17 for the same round last year and 18 last week.
The rating was exactly 5.00, the lowest our system accepts: F.  :-[ And we deserved it the way we played.
That said, 15 players managed a mention. In other times I would be happy with that. This week it indicates that few players stood out.

Votes:
McKay, Harrison 185
Cripps, Patrick 175
Thomas, Dale 152
Petrevski - Seton, Sam 58
Murphy, Marc 56
Dow, Patrick 27
Marchbank, Caleb 27
Lobbe, Matthew 15
Rowe, Sam 13
Simpson, Kade 12
Polson, Cameron 8
Byrne, Ciaran 8
Curnow, Edward 6
Curnow, Charles 6
Lamb, Jed 4

The top score of 185 was pretty low, due to the rating. But when we play poorly, the resulting votes show it.
It is Harry McKay's 1st BOG.
Patrick Cripps has 10 BOG's this year and 3 2nds! What a domination!
Daisy Thomas getting votes also puts him firmly in the top 5, with the likelihood that he will stay there.

Progressives:
4770 - Cripps, Patrick (0)
1992 - Curnow, Edward (0)
1549 - Simpson, Kade (0)
1505 - Curnow, Charles (0)

37 - Mullett, Aaron (0)
36 - Lang, Darcy (0)
15 - Polson, Cameron (0)
13 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
6 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)

This one has been won a LONG way from home. Cripps is over double the score of his nearest rival.
Daisy cannot be displaced from the top 5 at this point, a remarkable improvement.
The Curnow brothers have stagnated of late.

That demonstrates dramatically how we are so dependent on such a few players and how we fall away badly in performance as we go down the list!
Title: Re: 2018 Jim Park Medal Analysis
Post by: crashlander on August 14, 2018, 01:51:22 pm
Absolutely. This year has been the greatest imbalance I can remember.

What is worse is that our 5th ranked player, Daisy Thomas, is clearly 5th, yet has had some games this year bad enough to call his retirement. And he has missed a game or two. He is also one of our elder statesmen.

Simmo is currently 3rd, and he has also been much less effective than last year. He is also the oldest player on our list.

The rest of the top 5 consists of the Curnow brothers and Patrick Cripps.

Our 11th ranked player is Weitering, who was dropped earlier this year because his form was terrible, and hasn't been that good since his return.

These scores are a really damning statistic about our performance.

We were good for a while, but we were smashed in the 3rd quarter. :(

With the game not on free to air TV there were not many voters. Only 12 people bothered. It was actually 3 more than for the same round last year (where we were also not on TV).
The rating this week was 6.39, which represents an E+. Fair enough, I guess. At least it was better than the straight F's.
11 different players managed a mention.

Votes:
Cripps, Patrick 277
Thomas, Dale 256

Petrevski - Seton, Sam 69
Rowe, Sam 64
Curnow, Charles 32
Murphy, Marc 21
Dow, Patrick 21
Simpson, Kade 16
Byrne, Ciaran 11

This is Lobbe's highest rating (3rd). Cripps is there almost every week. Daisy has 3 1st places, a 2nd and 2 3rds.

The Penultimate Round and another loss, but at least we gave the Dogs a fight.

Rd 22: Carlton vs Western Bulldogs at Etihad

This week there were 15 voters, up from 13 this time last year and 12 last week. More people could see the game, even though not many bothered to turn up on the night. Not really surprising, considering our form and injuries.
The rating was much better this week: 7.16, which represents something between a D and a D+. Just shows how bad we are going when a D+ appears to be a decent outcome.  :-[

And the winner is .....  ^-^

Carlton vs Adelaide: Rd 23: What a debacle! A few good things, but so many poor ones. Sort of describes the season.  >:D

Not many voters interested this week: 12 people bothered and nobody was really happy. Still, the number was better than this game last year, where we had just 11.
The rating was another very poor one: 5.28, which doesn't reach an F+.  :-[  :( No big surprise when you lose by 100 points, but ...
15 players rated a mention, although few did enough to be really noticeable.

Votes:
Cripps, Patrick 312
McKay, Harrison 112
Polson, Cameron 112
Weitering, Jacob 79
Lobbe, Matthew 70
Byrne, Ciaran 47

Lamb, Jed 14
Murphy, Marc 9
Marchbank, Caleb 9
O'Brien, Lochie 7
Simpson, Kade 5
Petrevski - Seton, Sam 5
Kerridge, Sam 2

Weitering would have scored much better if he hadn't had to go off injured. Polson played what was arguably his best game, ... and Patrick Cripps was Patrick Cripps!

As for the overall voting:
5571 - Cripps, Patrick (313)
2030 - Curnow, Edward (0)
1908 - Simpson, Kade (5)

Congratulations to Patrick Cripps! 2018 Jim Park Medalist!

Let'c consider the top 5 for a moment:
5571 - Cripps, Patrick
2030 - Curnow, Edward
1908 - Simpson, Kade
1723 - Thomas, Dale
1542 - Curnow, Charles

[1] Cripps was 3541 votes in front of 2nd place getter, Ed Curnow. 3541 votes! If he had got 3541 votes all up he would still have won by some margin, but to WIN by that margin! Not even Judd managed that.
[2] Ed Curnow started the season well, but fell away near the end. Still 2030 votes is not unreasonable.
[3] Charlie moved up into the top 5, but also fell away late in the season.
[4] Our oldest 2 players managed to get into the top 5, Daisy for the first time. That is impressive.

Thanks for your efforts Crash ????

It certainly was a one-sided result and I doubt whether we’ve ever had a player perform at a level so far above everyone else - even with the games others lost through injury.

Now for the Brownlow ????

Fly,  Murphy was OK at times but post the GC games he stunk.   Not surprised he polled but really an indictment on the list that so many senior players made the top ten,  yet the greater majority played poorly overall.

Ed was another whose early season was OK,  but as the year progressed his form deteriorated badly.  His last month was putrid.

Sums up the year nicely. If you've only got one bloke playing consistently good football week in week out and everybody else is miles behind, the you have a recipe for only winning 2 games and finishing with a percentage of around 60
