In game thread ready to run. I hope we can break our hoodoo against these reprobates.

So far, they are cleaner with the footy and we are giving away silly free kicks.
SOS should have marked that in the goal square, fumbled and was tackled.

Getting plenty of the ball, just no system forward, and when we do can't kick them. Might get a stamp made up for that comment just keep writing it

My God, Touhy 99 games in defence and still doesn't know to look at the ball after finding a player in defence. ,spare man in defence is playing too straight when they are bringing the ball down the wings,,,

Phillips is our premier ruckmen. Kruezer is our forward ruck. If he can kick straight he's of no use!!!

Going really well that 2Q except going inside 50 and kicking for goal. Gee, if we could just get that forward set up fixed!!!

We are just a tad messy with the footy. Defensively we are excellent.

A combination of terrific effort and Hawthorn either disinterested or going easy on us because they still have feelings for Bolts.

Either way, you have to be proud at half time.

We could be Richmond.

I'd rather barrack for Carlton than Richmond!!!

To right , frustrating miss , in such a low scoring game. Please bring back a game style where the teams actually score. Can remember games in the 70's & 80's horrible ground conditions , wind , rain etc, but they could still score? This is the retro round , go back to those days and have a look at what made the game great , this is clinical & boring to watch

Yep, we have a very good defence to build on. The forward zone is where we are falling down, at least today.

Shocking kick Kruze

... and a dumb kick. Warnock-esque.

If we actually believe that we might beat them we could be half a chance.

I think we've had this discussion before Rob - I too, have a soft spot for old school 70's, 80's style footy (apart from the thuggery), but we can't go back.

I know it's early days, but Silvagi plays from a completely reactionary point of view.

Every time the ball comes near, he looks at his opponent as if he is allowing them to go first.

He needs to realise he has an equal right to be on the ground and start demanding the ball, instead of hoping it bounces his way...

Showing my age ha ha , not the era I like more of a rounded game style. Look at the score board, 3 goals between 2 teams at half time? Please ? can't believe this is a game style going forward at times , not us but the game in general

We're just a couple of old(ish) farts whining about the passing of the "good ol' days" - precisely the type we swore we'd never become.

I like this stat: "Hawthorn was kept goalless for a quarter by a non-finalist for the first time since Round 6, 2010"
We have wasted our chances with stupid kicks though. A couple more goals would have given us a bit of a chance but the Hawks will be a different team second half. We MUST make use of the breeze this quarter or it will be ugly!!
Title: Re: Rd 19: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs Hawthorn

And in the time it took me to write my previous post the Hawks kicked 2 goals.  Ominous!  Thank goodness for Richmond

Stinky Jordan Lewis.

Clearly part of the plan when opposition gets a run on is to retain possession at all costs - hence the ugly kicking backwards, chipping around etc. Problem is, we can't do it for more than 30-45 seconds without turning it over.
Title: Re: Rd 19: In Game Attitude: Carlton vs Hawthorn
Post by: Zed on July 30, 2016, 03:44:42 pm
4 goals in 12 minutes to the Hawks and 10 inside 50s to one.
We are a rabble. Turn-overs everywhere.  What happened to the pressure and intensity from the first half?

Half way through the 3rd quarter and we have 1 goal.

Hawthorn have 6, which, whilst better, ain't great either.

And Dre just kicks one.
