Title: VFL Rd 10: Northern Blues vs Richmond
Post by: crashlander on June 21, 2017, 10:34:18 am
This game starts at 1200 at Punt Rd Oval and is designed to finished before the 'main game'.

Richmond pounded us in the practice match, but we played a very young side that day.
However, they got the ball out of the middle via Maric and Soldo. This week our ruck stocks are not at full strength. Korchek will probably come in, while VFL listed guys Angus Milhan (who is huge) and Sean Bolger (who is not) are other alternatives. This is a huge weakness, where we had a real advantage in Phillips. :(

Hopefully our mids can get the advantage.

Out: A. Phillips, D. Gorringe

Tim Jones coming in was pretty logical. He was one of the best VFL players we had last year. Similarly, Strachan is solid. Fowler didn't get a lot of chance to impress last week. Stavrou impressed until he got injured. Hs return is also a positive step.
We will miss Phillips. Our ruck division with Korchek being #1 does not fill me with confidence.

C: 21. C.  Barrett, 35. M.  Stavrou, 3. K.  Declase

F: 56. A. Gallucci, 53. H. Payne, 9. J. Corboy
R: 30. S. Bolger, 11. T. Jones, 67. C. Polson
Int: 44. W. Krithararis, 41. S. Glover, 75. J. Rafferty, 46. J. Bradley, 64. J. O’Brien, 24. T. Roos, 28. M. Harman, 57. F. Pearce, 23. C. Adams, 78. M. Walson, 54. M. Romero

Out: M. Korcheck, A. Milham, D. Stevens

With at least 4 changes built in, with the interchange yet to be finalized, the teams are going to look very different. Such is life. However, I feel LeBois probably should remain at this level until he gets a decent number of possessions. Last week he looked like he needed time on the field. If I hadn't seen him earlier, I would be calling for his replacement: he was small, soft, not as fast as he thought he was, and unable to get the ball inside his distance. As it is, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt: he has looked faster and his kicking was magical. But he needs time on the ground and a lot of hard work. No promotion until he gets 20+ possessions.
Gallucci is also looking dubious at this point. He just isn't getting enough of the ball and not bringing his team mates into the game. He also needs a decent number of possessions before he gets promoted.
Glass-McCasker I think has had it. He does not seem to have developed his game at all since this time last year. I would still like to see him play forward, especially if he is to be discarded at the end of the season. It is imperative that we see what he has. I have seen some of his better games and I can see some decent tools, but his game just doesn't seem to have matured at all.

Well, you can take Cuningham, Samo and ZF out of that line-up, plus one of Pickett, Smedts, Kerridge or Graham (personally, I hope that Pickett gets the nod). WHich would probably mean that Byrne, Le Bois, Gallucci and Polson are in with O'Shea and Jones the Preston boys to come in. But if Docherty fails to come up...

Anyone else tried the live feed only to discover that the signal dies with the scores at Tiggers 1.1 and us 1.0?

Tiggers listed players like Hunt, Bachelor,Vlastuin,Miles etc doing well....Korchek rucking ok and kicked a goal....Kerr and Sumner the other goalkickers, we look a bit small and light, might end up a bit ugly this game if we cant defend better.

Pathetic.

A commentator used the term 'turned their toes up' when describing the NBs. Sums it up well.

Final score:

Tiggers 16.19.115

NBs 4.7.31

The end.

Woeful display....

Jaksch....did some ok things but same old same old from him as in he just doesnt go hard enough or show  much care..
White....ok at times but also poor with his disposal which is why he is the twos IMO...lost interest after half time..
Sheehan..not enough to stay on the list, probably not quick enough or providing enough rebound for the modern game.
Buckley...showed dash at times and kicks the ball better than most but another who didnt show a lot of interest and looks like he knows he is playing out time..
Byrne..tried but still looks half a yard off the pace of the game...lacking in long vision always looks to go short, copped a bad knock in the last quarter..
Galluci...one goal but nothing else
Denis...nothing much from Army who is seeing out time...
Kerr...one goal but unsighted for most of the game...seemed to be playing on Chol(spelling) who is like a junior Majak Daw and does some good things...to be fair the ball didnt get past half forward much.
Harry...unsighted but did get knock to the head and there wasnt much action down our forward line like I said..
Korchek..started well but faded..worn down by Maric and Soldo.....
Sumner....one goal and did nothing else...another lacking in interest and looks gone..
Palmer..plenty of ball but kicked short and wasted the footy....more of a senior game player IMO and not suited playing with kids and hacks at VFL level...
Macreadie...didnt do much but didnt make mistakes either...
Polson...looked small out there and we were smashed around the packs by Miles, Townsend, Hunt etc....needs another season in the NB's...

Tigers just had too many players with senior experience and big bodies..no Graham and Kerridge really takes away the NB's drive from the middle and the midfield was non existent...of course no Philips really hurt us as Crash suggested...Korchek wasnt bad but Bolger isnt a VFL player even..

Kristian Jaksch has been offered a one-match suspension for striking, with the hit graded as intentional conduct with low impact and high contact....he actually showed a bit of fire in this exchange and I thought great he is a more willing contributor but it didnt last long....

Wrong sort of aggression, bad result.
Well, the guys have to step up this week and show that last week WAS truly an aberration.
