Robert Heatley Stand / Re: What to do with Jack
Well I kicked this thread off and went to the game on Sunday night. I was looking hard but didn't see much that thrilled me. Most of the comments above were reinforced by Jacks performance. Maybe a better structure would help - look what it did for Brad Pearce in '95 (he was a very quick mover though and Jack ain't). Also I don't want to see him flying for marks like he does because he rarely brings them down. I think his papers are just about stamped.

I actually watched Jack play a game when he was in year 12. He was serviceable but he never owned the game like you'd expect any potential draftee to do. He was playing his heart out though, I guess that's kept me in his corner all these years. Sadly I think he needs to find a role somewhere else. Its needs to be in a really good team though, with players as smart as him around him.

Robert Heatley Stand / What to do with Jack
He's out ,in and out again. Time on ground 37% last week.

I think he's one of our smarter players in terms of finding space. I also think he loves playing for us as much or more than anyone. He stands up and flies the flag without question.

I think his best position is forward. Charlie and especially Harry are being mauled by multiple players and yet we still kick it to them. If Jack was given some time ply his trade as a smart forward presenting another option (he is very evasive I think) rather than be used as a swingman (that's how it appears to me) we and he would be better off.  I'm not sure that he has enough pace off the mark to be effective down the back and or in the middle. I swear I've seen players , knowing Silvagni is on their hammer, take that extra moment to gather themselves because they know they can burn him off. Floating around as a smart forward presenting options is his best role in my opinion.

I write this because it rips me up to see a capable, smart guy who wants to be out there, who leaves nothing out there not getting a run.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 6 2022 Pre Game Prognostications Carlton vs Fremantle
- Silvagni is an excellent contributor against non-ruckman opponents - however, I think we need a better back up ruckman unless the Duckers are similarly limited.
- Newnes performed admirably (especially early) and seemed more dangerous in attack (although he missed some opportunities) than LOB has been - deserves to hold his spot.
- Cottrell was good enough and deserves to hold his spot.
- Parks was passable as our 3rd tall defender but might struggle to hold his spot if a better option is available.

- Martin and Fisher showed up at stages - Durdin and Owies had limited opportunities but consistently delivered pressure when the ball went forward (not so often in the 2nd half) - one of them might get a rest (for team balance) if we need to play a back up ruckman.
- Kennedy has gone off the ball the past 2 weeks but probably has enough credits in the bank to hold his place.

I think Kennedy is a carrying a quad injury. He may well be sitting out if Cripps wasn't already out.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Review
Speaking of flogs. I'd hope that the review finds Lloyd in need of replacement recommends Neil Balme. His pedigree - 9 GFs for 6 wins I think.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pre game Banter: AFL 2020 Rd 14: Carlton vs Collingwood
Kennedy is clearly the better player at present.....but in saying that, Cottrell is a better runner and more physical. Long term i think he will inherit the tagging role from Ed. Pies have a few talented midfielders i wouldn't mind trying to stop....

For team balance, i think we'd be better off playing both and dropping a ruck.....but nobody deserves to be dropped.

I think Kennedy is quite physical in the way he plays. Watch him. Cottrell has that Mitch Robinson kamikaze look about him IMHO , which makes him look more physical than others. Whether its energy well spent lets see over time. Robbo has learnt to play smarter over the journey since he left us I think. He is still no good with a mike in his hand though!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Cripps Charged by MRO
Don't ask Cripps to be something he's not. We don't need or want mongrols. I'd much rather him hurt oppositions fairly than get sucked into doing something that tarnishes his name.

Sick to death of people knocking the coach without coming up with an alternative. I've just been through this whole thread and I didn't see one suggestion of who could do better.

Tried and tested coaches?

Clarkson - Ian Aitken incident, 'unsociable-football' (sniping) etc
Longmire - unwatchable possession football where the whistle goes off every 10 seconds does my head in
Ross Lyon - bridesmaid. Negative football.
Worsfold - needs success at a second club to prove himself in my mind, because he had an awesome side in the west.
Scott brothers - No.

No going to bother going through them all.

You will think I need my head read but I would take Buckley, but we would never get him.

Maybe we need a someone who has been through a good system has seen what is required for success and is ready to take the next step. Thats what we have now.

Someone please name me another to roll the dice on (SO WE CAN START AGAIN !!!!!!!!) or put up and shut up.

Brett Ratten couldn't defend against a rampaging Suns because he had no plan B back then. That was is his coach killer game. He is about the only other  I could accept as a replacement.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Give Harry a go
In light of the recent media attention, reactivating this chat. Happened on the chance to speak with an assistant coach at the club recently and he played a very straight bat. Said Harry still has a bit to learn yet.

Forwards rely on good delivery. No he's not going to get that from our current senior side, but it isn't going to be any better in the magoos. Been hearing a compromised pre season as an excuse. He's had the the season to get some sort of fitness. Is that the problem? Do not start me on needing to improve his work rate. That could be leveled at most of our senior side right now.

I'm thinking there must be more to this than what we are hearing. If there are other problems (and I am not looking to find out what they are), then move him on.

After which the experiment will be deemed to be a failure ;D

My preference is he stays in the VFL for a bit longer and learns his mid-field trade there.
However if he does play seniors there's probably no harm in him spending a few short bursts in the middle just to give him an idea of the difference at that level.
(I'm not sure we haven't tried that already...I have memories of him starting in the centre... but it may have been a VFL match I was watching)

I've found myself thinking (and saying) he's too slow to make it. Then I think of Jobe Watson. He fashioned himself into a midfielder and he certainly wasn't quick. He had Greg Williams as a mentor too...
