Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL 2024 Rd 4 Carlton vs Port Melbourne at Carlton
Showing your age Jim😉🤐...yep Frosty Miller did play for the Blues and went on to be a star VFA player for Dandenong and has the goalkicking award in the VFL named after himself. Left footer from memory who kicked torps and along with his little leftie mate Pat Flaherty made my life as a Preston supporter miserable as a kid...

Was a Dandenong support even though I lived in the Northern Suburbs near the Preston ground. They were the good old days, VFL on a Saturday and the VFA on Sundays.

TDK is regularly showing he can take a mark and kick a goal when forward.

Two rucks works PROVIDED one can play forward. We have that hence can work. If do don't then you can't play 2 rucks, ala Gawn and Grundy, as it ends up a liability to the side. You basically play one short.

Will play against his brother next week. Could be an interesting week in the De Koning household this week.

So, in the third term leak aliir was off for a substantial period and that's when we did our damage.

Orazio played his best game in navy.  Might not have troubled the stats sheet but his leadership (constant direction and chatter) as well as work rate (particularly during our surge) was good.  He's probably first cab out when we get motlop back but don't underestimate his value.  He linked up well a couple of times and when we were blazing away he lowered his eyes and hit up targets a couple of times leading to scores.  He's not winning games himself but the usual suspects are going to perform when the Indians like Boyd, fantasia, durdin cotters, acres do the basics well and just keep giving the main events of cripps, McKay, curnow, Walsh, etc the impetus to impose themselves without having to worry about the others.

Also big kudos to voss.  Gws I think kicked 5 in a row in the second term and they made the call to drop curnow back when our defense was all at sea.  He didn't exactly do much but take one steadying mark, but it turned the game into an arm wrestle again and killed thr gws momentum.  We scored the next goal and he went forward again.  It just basically made them second guess what to do and they lost momentum. Curnow made the call himself. I saw him running through the center and signalling to the bench that he was going into the backline. Free rein to do it himself or a planed move. Either way it worked.

Psychologically this was extremely important particularly as he was having a bit of an off day to that point.  A lot of fans around me couldn't work out why he decided to do it, but I thought it's not a bad idea.  It also has the effect of opening up our forward line and pushing a ruck forward and letting Charlie have a gallop.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 5 2024 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Adelaide
We need to start winning clearances, our small forwards are average and I've no confidence in our small defenders with Saad missing

Won plenty of clearances out of the center, only problem was that as we got going and tried to handball to an outside runner some Adelaide player got a hand to it and chopped it off. I saw Ranking do it a few times. I'd have him in my team any day of the week. Head and shoulders above anyone else on our team for that role other than Martin and he's never on the park much.

Ill cop a loss, just not against what you know. Ben Farken Keys again. A bigger hack you will not find and yet dines out on us...again.

Yep. Was sitting next to an Adelaide supporter and said the same thing to me. Just loves playing against us.
Had a bad feeling going into the game and had a Carlton supporter,  say to me while walking to the ground, we got this.
That just about sealed it for me that this was not going to be a good day.

You often see the ball brush a hand or arm of a player then is marked properly by their opponent, everyone accepts thats a mark around the ground, we only have this hoo haa because of the state of the game and the resulting goal.
Freo lost the game fair and square and only have themselves to blame, as others have said they were probably the better team on the day and its stings losing like that but good teams find a way to win and non contenders like Freo find ways to lose.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 0 2024 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Brisbane
Agree. Fantasia's smarts and disposal in tight were influential. Owies was probably our only 'not quite up to it' player. - Looked good and assured in traffic. First real game in over 12 months I think. Can only get better if he can stay on the park.
Hollands, whose tireless work; defensive work, was terrific... however, he's got to become less fumbly and surer with his hands. - Agreed. Has a big heart for the contest and has no fear.
Crippa, Cera & Hewett were outstanding. Really well supported by Chugga and J Carroll - who looked like he belonged. Announced himself. - Long time coming for Carroll. Should get a few more games this year. Was highly touted when we picked him up.
Good to see Cunners going in hard with his body at times when required. - Agreed and if he kicked straight could of had 3 goals at least.
Entire back-line deserves plaudits. (Pleasantly surprised by Young. Kempy tough and hard). - Agreed. Held it together and Young looked back to his best from 2 years ago. A real bonus if he can keep the form up.
TDK's work was great. Hard at it. 2nd/3rd efforts, terrific. - Kruzer MK 2.
H... silenced the glib and shallow critics in the best way possible. - Agreed
Fogarty... tougher than a cat's head. Valuable. When he tackles someone, they remain tackled. - The one that stood out to me was the tackle on MCINERNEY. Had some help but i don't think he needed it.
47pt turnaround speaks for itself about belief, persistence, endeavour, pressure and connection... when we bring our 'brand.' - Wife's  birthday on Friday so we were out and saw the first half on the big screed. Was about to throw my beer at the screen but thought second off it and drank it instead. Kept an eye on the score when we got home and was rapped they got up after thinking we had no hope in hell of winning.

Kinda feels like a 'bonus' 4pts considering where we played, conditions and an elite opposition. Go Blues!

Hollands kick to Doc was almost perfect, Doc's positioning was good and his kick to the top of the square was as good as you get, Weiters taking on the kick to Hollands was even better.

They had no time to go slow, go any slower and the defenders flood back.

Fans seem to be oblivious to the fact that alongside Acres in the square was McGovern and Kemp, that's about as big of a roll of the dice as you will get!

Yeap, and McGovern did a nice job of pretending to go for the mark without interfering with the Melbourne player.

Hollands was as expected when he came on. Consistent.

But...don't give him too much credit. That last kick to Docherty was poor. Doch had space, Hollands kicked it behind him.
Docherty's bravery and the dees players stupidity made it all work out in the end. But that kick was poor.

A poor kick was the one that Owies kicked to a Dees player who was not even in the passage of play and did not expect to mark the ball, when Owies had, I think Curnow leading towards him from about 20 meters.

So I call this one even it was a good mark by Doc and a good/poor kick by Holland.   :)  :)

Oof, I know this is about Carl v Bris but … GWS are looking ominous.

Everyone has dismissed our loss to them as no big deal. Players out, no incentive, etc., but I’m not buying any of it.

They dismantled us, pure and simple, like they did to Port last night.

Probably a Lions + Giants GF. BooHoo AFL.

Oh I would love for them to beat the Pies. And I think they can do it.

Honestly, i don't think i want Harry in the side.

I'd prefer Jack if we went another tall.

I'm well aware that Vossy won't be having any of that.

My changes would be.....
In: Martin, Silvagni (or Harry as Vossy would do)
Out: Hollands, Marchbank,
Kennedy to be demoted to sub

Jack is not match fit as Voss said last week. As much as I want to see him play and he bleeds blue blood, I think he may not play again this year bar an injury to MP or TD. The only way I see him playing is as the sub.

Also, I remember his dad SOS missing out on the finals in 94 and playing a pivotal role in 95. So maybe history repeating itself??

I reckon Harry must play as he will be the link up the ground and will not get any shorter as the game wears on.
Plus he could turn it on and kick a bag which will give Brisbane heart ache, and they will still have to cover Charlie.

Charlie and Harry have not yet both fired together so there is always this week.

I reckon Cunners or Owies will be one of the outs with Hollands as the sub.
He virtually won us the game on Friday in the last, and that maybe enough to get him over the line.

Agree on the 23 blokes all needing to contribute, Kennedy will probably make way for Harry but its a tough choice on who to drop for Martin who will also come straight in.
Cuningham, Fogarty have been lucky charms since returning and Motlop hasnt done anything wrong either plus does Hollands stay as sub ahead of any of the other candidates to be dropped?
Im presuming Docherty plays....

Maybe Owies? Love the boy but made 3 or 4 really bad errors which may cost him.

OMG, goosebumps for the entire 4 mins.

If you were not at the game and just watching on TV, the highlights just do not do that moment justice.
x100 times and your getting close

From where i was sitting, Q24, Doc's mark looked way more difficult than it was as the Melbourne player looked to be in front of him, and I thought oh no Melbourne was going to mark it or it would be a spoil and possibly a ball up.
It was such a superbly jugged mark.
