We have been able to find duds elsewhere using the 'grass is greener elsewhere' approach.
One of the problems with the Northern Blues is that there doesn't appear to be a path from there to us. Other clubs appear to mine their VFL affiliates. We send them elsewhere. We'd have a lot more better kids trying out with us if we could convince them there was a chance of a Carlton future.
It is probably to his benefit by not playing, but it is a disaster for the Baby Blues. This week's team is even more inexperienced than normal and seriously lacking big man power. Imagine depending on Jones in the ruck!

Our side looks a little light on this week. Too many injuries. Hopefully we can get a few guys back in the next few weeks. But we seem to be losing them much quicker than we can get them back.
On paper they look much stronger than we do. C'est la vie. We just have to deal with it. Wood is not named.

Wood has been a warrior this year but he has been struggling to jump off the ground in recent weeks so he would be uncompetitive against the big bloke. I am content to see Rowe and/or Levi providing relief for Kreuzer.
That is pretty accurate. He struggled last week against Hampson. But the, so did Kreuzer. Wood will be back, but he does need to get some form and confidence up. Much better chance of doing that against Casey than against Freo.
I am not sure whether anyone noticed, but we have an interesting guy now on the list: Cameron Conlan. A couple of years back big Conlan was touted to be a top 10 pick before injuries stuffed him around. On the comeback trail, big Conlan is now playing with the development side and has been named in the best players in the last couple of weeks. This is good news because Conlan is something we have in very short supply: a real ruckman. As an U18 he was known for his marking and mobility. I have no idea just how mobile he still is after his injuries, but he is definitely the tallest guy on the Northern Blues' list. Hopefully we can keep this big boy around and he can develop - for us.
This week the football returns to Ikon Park on a Saturday afternoon (1400 hours) for the big game against the Casey Scorpions (aka Melbourne 2nds). Casey have had the wood on us in recent times, especially on their mud heap. Now we have a chance to show how to the play at a ground with real stands (no matter how dilapidated).
The line up for this week's game is very much up in the air at the moment. Carlton will definitely have to replace Gibbs and Armfield due to their injuries. Jamison is also uncertain after his concussion last week. So, whether he plays or not, another tall defender will certainly get on the plane and fly to Perth with the seniors. Will we retain Fields in the seniors? Tutt? I am not certain that either will play in Perth, so there looks like there will be a significant number of changes.
Sheesh - where to begin. No Gibbs, no Army. Fyfe in. Playing on their dung heap. They will be looking to "make a statement" after being embarrassed by the Hawks.
This will be one to avoid.
Frockers by 70.
There are some guys going around who can get away with almost anything and not get suspended. It looks like Fyffe is becoming one of them. There have been 3 or 4 times this year when he has got away with things that our players would be suspended for. He may have been a bit unlucky in the past, but that is certainly no longer the case. As for Mitchell and Selwood, they appear to be charmer. Selwood should have got something similar to what Judd got a couple of years back. But he got 1 miserable week. Mitchell kneed another player and got nothing again. And Howe of Melbourne got away with another sling tackles that gave his opponent concussion! Truly amazing!
He is a big lump of a lad and doesn't mind going in hard but I wanted to see if he has mastered kicking. I believe that he played in the USA so he should know the basics.
He is an effective knock ruckman at VFL level.
He goes out f his way to handball at the moment. To be honest, I haven't seen him kick since he the preseason. I have no idea how good or bad he is at the moment. His ruck work is coming along nicely. He is good at the centre bounce because he has a very good leap. He is learning to use his body and strength at boundary throw ins, but he has some way to go in this area. He is the opposite of Cox of Collingwood (another American), who was hopeless at the centre bounce, but very good at boundary throw ins and body work. He really tossed Casboult around like an unwanted ragdoll.
Ciaran Byrne had 18 possessions in less than 3 quarters on the ground. That is what we were missing for all those weeks. We killed them in the ruck, yet didn't get much advantage out of it. They had the sort of mids in Cachia and Thomas who do well in those conditions. Rowe having 14 possessions was probably not enough, although he was positively dynamic compared to Jones (9 possessions and only 2 kicks). Even in the wet a conversion rate of barely 30 % is the sort of things nightmares are made from. That Watson had 7 marks in the conditions was excellent. But 1 goal...

I agree on Jaksch and Byrne. Probably the only two that look like making the grade at this stage. Foster wasn't bad either.
I don't think you can play both Fields and White in defence. I'd move Hendo back and give Jaksch a go up forward. I'm not sold on both Kreuzer and Wood in the same side either.
Alas, beggars can't be choosers. We have 2 fit ruckmen and that is it. They both have to play, unless we sacrifice one and run him into the ground and fill in with Casboult.
Great to have you back Wallsy and good to see you are reading my posts.
Yes, he mentioned Yarran, Everitt and Menzel. You could make a good case for dropping all 3 of them. If we had some fit guys, it would be a great move. He forgot to mention Tutt, would may try to tackles but could NOT retard a 10 year old successfully. I'm glad the Robert cares. Maybe we can find place for him somewhere. We need a few guys who really care.
