“ Verdict: Curnow to return from two years out of the game, Kemp to be handed an AFL debut and Fogarty to play, with Owies, Betts and Williams going out of the team. - Riley Beveridge”

Generally has good mail.
Surely if true Owies has some soreness or an injury, because despite not kicking straight he's generating plenty of scoring opportunities for a small forward. I mentioned post match he was almost alone in deep running last game, which left him one out against multiple opponents on several occasions. That is not his fault.

How do you give Owies the ar5e while retaining SPS, Fisher and Dow after last weekends woeful defensive running? I think I'd rather have Owies get a midfield run than leave SPS and Dow killing time in the AFL!

While I don't think Steele needs to worry about Cripps and will just get plenty of the ball naturally, I would agree with Cripps going forward. The proviso is he actually stops the stupid wrestling thing he tried last week and just plays as a lead up. Also don't care who Ed tags as long as he tags someone.  This is his best role.

If Cripps is to play forward, he needs a crash course in how to play forward.  I would prefer to see him kicking goals as a midfielder and with limited spells in the forward line.
“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”  Oddball

Doesnt take a crash course to know the bombing it on his head and wrestling the FB wont work. Needs to work hard to get on a lead, double back and get behind. Just get into some space and give the kicker an option. He's no dill, smart footballer and does have a tank to outwork a FB.

Owies was out (managed) last week. He ended up coming back in when Harry was a late out.
Something not right with him, but given our injury list he's probably been battling through for a while.

From TT presser.

Looks like Harry unlikely,
Charlie to probably play FF,
McGovern 50/50 depending on Harry.

My take on all that is:

Match Committee changes -
outs - Williams, Eddy.
Ins - Charlie, McGovern.

My Changes -
outs - Williams, Eddie, Williams, SPS (heart),
Ins - Charlie, Fogerty, LOB (Tagger), Kemp (wing)

Unfortunate that the backups are all injured.  I hope that Harry comes up and the MC don't just pick him to throw off the Aints,

You really don't like Williams... you've dropped him (inj, I know) twice!!  ;)  ;D

Surely McGovern straight back in after being out for nearly 10 weeks with a hammy is a huge risk? I'd rather have Kemp get a run this week.

I'd make McGovern the medical sub......insurance against a tall going down at either end of the ground.

This might sound NQR but I reckon Gov tries too hard (in a strange kind of way). What I mean my this is he sprints hard when he doesnt need to, he tries to jump over packs when he doesnt need to, he tries to kick the leather off it when he doesnt need to. All this does is:
1. Mess his timing up.
2. Strains muscles that can least afford.
In tennis, they use the term easy power when striking the ball, its all about fluent action timing. Gov needs to watch his brother and see how he does it easy with good timing.
I think he is a smart footballer, ala Whitnall. Just needs to be clever about getting to the right spots with out extended the muscles he has had issues with.

Just listened to the Weiters interview on SEN with Gerard W. Impressive. Intelligent, honest, forthright and articulate young man. And a shout out to Gerard for not only the sharp relevance of his questions but also the succinct way in which they were asked. Good interview skills are scarce in our horrendously over staffed sport reporting.

Then I flicked over and watched The TTs media conference.  :-X

In recent times, Whateley has gone downhill IMO, but I agree with you - this is one of his better efforts.

Weitering has a Judd-like ability to articulate his thoughts coherently, and cogently. Neatly sidestepped a few questions.

Think Wilkie had around 20 possies on him till half time last time he played Stkilda......I think eased in maybe down back could be a good start for him. While no fan of his work so far I think we need to make the best use of him possible and a fresh start down back might help him get into form quicker.
