It's really hard to know how fair dinkum Holman was.
I hope he was joking all through it.

One thing I especially hope he was joking about was his lack of close friends at the club.
You would like to believe that our young group is pretty tight and will grow together into a solid combination over the coming years. If young guys feel isolated and are finding it difficult to bond with teammates we're in a bit of strife.

He only has one friend at the club and that is Nick Graham. Really ? If that is true, it is sad for our club. Why are the senior players not making good friends with him and helping him bond ? What about Cripps, Buckley and a few other younger players. I don't expect them to go clubbing together every week, but surely there are some friends at the club. It must be all jokes and giggles.

The pre-game footage from the Bulldogs game would suggest that Buckley and Holman are mates.  At the very least they have matching headbands  :P

I think he was joking.
I suspect team bonding would be high on the agenda with recruits and if someone was having difficulty "settling in" the club would make it a priority to ensure some peer support.

" I do trade school with Blaine Johnson but we're not really friends" ???
"What animal would you like to be? ....an Owl"....to the guys off the camera..
"Why would  I be an owl?"

It sounds like it was all scripted

Is Dylan Buckley back at the club in some capacity??

He's helping the club with their social media presence. Wants to get a role in mentoring younger fringe players who may or may not make it, but that's yet to be confirmed

Because our social media is average at best, he's super popular among the youngsters (Dyl and Friends podcast), very important way of getting new fans, and therefore new members in the current climate

Smart move by the club and I hope Dylan does well in whatever his new role(s) offers.

I suspect he will also play for Northern and join in some sort of coaching capacity. The reduction of runners from the AFL will lead teams to be looking for on-field leaders to give direction - why not him? He has had plenty of time on a senior list, knows how hard it is to make it, but at VFL level was a good performer.

Because our social media is average at best.

We were rated in the top 3 at the end of the year.  ???

I hope he does play for Northern!  He is one of those blokes who is great at State level but can’t quite reproduce that form at AFL.  He plays attacking footy and should help make the NBs more competitive.

He comes from good carlton stock, as and imagine players like him are good at building an environment that people want to be part of because they have a bit of fun in the process.

I suspect this is the part of the picture that Bolton didn't get, and it probably cost him in the end.

In my opinion he was clearly too invested in the "Strength through adversity" stuff, so much so that he forgot people cannot be under duress 100% of the time without there being some negative effects!

I also attribute much of Nthmond's success to Dimma realising this, and when he did he sacked Choco and a bunch of other assistants, mostly to ensure he could free up the playing group to be human again without too many people wanting a piece of them!

This is a prime example of how people can be the real problem without any of them doing anything wrong!

I am a big supporter of the SOS approach to the rebuild however I can not understand why we got rid of Boekhurst and Buckley and brought in Mullet & Shaw, O'Shea had had a good year at the Northern Blues and deserved a shot as a Rookie, but the other two brought nothing while Boekhurst and Buckley had pace and brought some glimpses of good play.

X2.  I thought Boekhorst was showing a few glimpses and was starting to look like he could develop into a player , whereas his nominal replacement (Shaw) was a stinking decision from go to whoa.   I  wonder if it was the new management being excessive in their approach to distance themselves from previous management?

I thought the story with Boekhurst was that he came back from the west late and turned up at training wasted?

Tend to agree, Shaw was a spud and Mullett got chopped from Nth for being soft and Scott gave that reason in public. Boekhorst was a decently skilled player but the physical nature of AFL footy
had him in trouble as you have to be able to contest properly and you get manned up over here unlike WAFL footy where there is plenty of space to roam in.
Think you are right on the new management, anything from the past that was delivered courtesy of Rogers/Hughes was history unless it was Blue Chip like Cripps...

Correct. Went to a music festival back in WA when he was meant to be back at training. Was poised for a rookie spot before that.

Glimpses of good play might get you a spot on a list but not for long.  Buckley and Boekhorst had their chances and they simply weren’t good enough ... and Boekhorst let himself down with a very poor decision.

Mullett and Shaw weren’t the answer but they were better options than Buckley and Boekhorst.
