SOJ finding plenty of it, trying too hard with his kicks though, shanked a couple of set shots

C Curnow and KJ have not touched it virtually.
We need to play on more, this chip around stuff is just no good for us.

Plowman, Simmo, Doc , some nice clearances from the back half but virtually nothing to kick to, thought first is to hand off & go back.

Why did they wind the clock down then - why not try and attack in the last 10 seconds? Not like we're defending a lead!

Because we would probably turn it over and hand them a goal in junk time.

Nothing to get excited about but  we're hanging in there at least.
Sumner and Lamb almost invisible and Jaksch a non event so it's hard to see us kicking a winning score.
Simpson in career best form.
Title: Re: Rd 17: In game imagination: Carlton vs West Coast
Post by: Baggers on July 17, 2016, 02:19:11 pm
Sumner, Cripps and Weitering seem to be playing injured and Curnow is just too underdone.
Title: Re: Rd 17: In game imagination: Carlton vs West Coast
Post by: LoveNavy on July 17, 2016, 02:20:23 pm
Our defence is really looking cohesive given the quality they're up against. We really need to have a crack taking the game on second half. Missing the young Irishman in that sense. Hope someone else can bring that.. Not sure who.
KJ needs to make the most of his opportunities.

Go Blues

Playing with the extra man in defence is, obviously, helping us out down there, but it is certainly hindering us when we are trying to come out of it. We have nobody to kick to.

Many people are talking about player x is invisible out there. Unfortunately 'player x' could be about 12 names!

To this point in time it is very similar to last week. Crows dominated us from here last week, lets see what we've learned to stop it from happening again.

Isn't the key forwards fault there it's the way the ball moves into the 50. No blame there at all. Like I've always said, we were a way better side when we had two of them in the team. Opened up the 50 so much more and kicked way higher scores. More players could kick goals and even the ruckmen found room to take a mark and snag a goal. Since we've gone back to the structure of the first 4 rounds we back to not being able to kick a goal. One structure gave us 6 from 7, the other zero from 9. Right now we re on target for a grand total of 6 goals. One day we will learn.

Jaksch is slow and can't change direction, like Watson before him.

Maybe, but we seem to keep recruiting players with the same shortcomings.

It's days like today that you wish you still had the sub.  Jaksch needs to just stay on the bench and only come on if a player who is actually trying, gets injured. (White at least is having a real crack!)
Title: Re: Rd 17: In game imagination: Carlton vs West Coast
Post by: LoveNavy on July 17, 2016, 03:08:05 pm
27 down at 3/4 time. Could be much worse if not for solid defense and some unlikely goal scorers. Hope we can sustain the pressure for last - that'll be a win for us IMO

Yep was thinking the same thing at the game. Sadly he has no clue.  Big muck up losing a first rounder for this guy.

Can't see him making it. When you can't even do the basics and been in the system for 3 plus years usually tells you something.

Post by: blue4life on July 17, 2016, 03:09:53 pm
You can't fault the effort but three or four Eagles goals from turnovers which would embarrass suburban footballers make it very tough.
At least we have a good crack these days, but we sure need to recruit a few skillful players.

Great effort going back with the flight to spoil.....gets no reward for it, but its moments like that we need more of.

Plenty of people coming down hard on Jaksch, but the kid is playing his first game for the year, playing a different role to what he has had to since entering the AFL and is still only 21.

Cripps really needs to work on his kicking if he is to take the next step. People who call for him to go fwd need to rethink think that until he fixes that part of his game. Its no accident that when you look at his 29 Disp, its 9K 20HB. All in all, we didnt give up. I though that when WC got that little run in the third, we would be on the end of a 100 pt flogging.
