Just finished watching this, fathers day duties called.
Happy to get a big win, kicking 10 goals without both Sophie and Darcy in the side.
One of only 3 teams undefeated......and we play the other 2 in the next 2 weeks. Kangas, then Dees. Kangas haven't been beaten in what.......2.5 years?? Lets see how well we go there, will very much determine our hopes for the year.
I wonder if the club has thought of getting Poppy Scholz to work with Brodie Kemp on his kicking for goal. She has a relaxed, no nonsense routine and kicks through the ball really well.
In fact, the field and goal kicking in the AFLW seems to have gone up a notch this season, particularly with the distance the girls are now kicking.
I agree, we were not disgraced at all and Geelong was never going to go easy or roll over; so we had our work Cut out for us. Thought we started really well and looked confident and poised mostly then seems fatigue and errors began and Geelong always had more in the tank than us. Some bewildering umpiring but not the reason we lost and at this stage Patrick Dangerfield is top of my list of most loathed oppo players - he is just a flog; hopefully Freo bury them, cant imagine Freo will allow their next game to be lost.
But back to Carlton, proud of the effort and the turnaround of the season, gave us all some great memories and we were even being barracked for by oppo supporters! So getting some respect in the game and our young ones will be the better for 2026!
Pretty even imo… cats were never going to slink away quietly—- think we panicked a bit occasionally in second part of second quarter… need a little more surety and I feel confident.
Well I watched the video after being in transit and I wasn't overtly impressed. Hard game to assess. A few, particularly those in the front half looked overawed. Byrne spilt marks and missed tackles, Cottrell burned how many chances, McG was unsighted and Cerra's first half stank. Wilson was very quiet. Both sides missed a lot of goals that really should have been kicked. If Hayward came in I suspect it may be for Young, although his flexibility is handy. Have to find match ups for Dangerflog, Smith and Dempsey, can't see the Cats shelling chances and bringing the ball into F50 with as little system as the dees.
Same for me, replay only and I agree what you say. If Haywood is fit and ready, then I think Byrne or Cottrell makes way.; but I think Byrne because he looked lost and out of his depth and had zero impact. Byrne wasn't alone tbh, but we don't want to start making too many changes to a winning combo.
I think dropping him would be a mistake - he was still effective but just couldn’t get into the game enough and imo you could see he was disappointed in his game.
McG is the funny one for me. He just cannot be relied on and as a very snr player I just get so frustrated by his dropped marks and errant kicks.
Ahhh completely forgot this was on until 3/4 time but. really great fight to the end by the girls - hasnt there kicking just gotten so much better, and some huge kicks!
what worries me already there is talk about how good we are against geelong this might inspire cats to lift
Here's our recent form: WWWWWWWLLWWWDW Like it or not, we keep winning so it's a different narrative for us. No longer are we easy beats, we have to be at our best but so do they. This is our new reality.
This is what we must become and stand up against if we are to be successful and win our next premiership! No reason it cant be now!
Our young kids are not nervy, they want this!
After a quieter (by his standards) game yesterday by Crippa I can foresee him being BOG on Friday… I just feel good about this next game, Cats are favourites, we have nothing to lose.
I agree it was a really weird game to be at and watch and we were very nervous in the first mostly across the board. Difference for me is I felt confident they would settle and win - but for a myriad of just misses/hit posts, we wouldve won by 6-8 goals! Even when it was teetering it felt like we would win not capitulate, and we didnt.
So sure, skills were lacking at times but our push forward and execution and commitment was a different Carlton outfit to the one from months ago. Just feel… more composed.
I just love the confidence the players are showing, not as much indecision and nerves with ball in hand. Its like they are just backing themselves in no matter what 👏🏽 make an error but work hard to fix it.
