Title: Crystal Ball
Post by: townsendcalling on October 23, 2015, 09:26:21 pm
We are being sold a significant amount of hope at the moment, if we we are patient!!

If we are to believe that we will be contenders in 5 years time (circa 20/21), there are 2 questions to ponder: who will win the next 5 premierships?  Which of our greatest rivals (Richmond, Collingwood , Essendon) will win one.

Or in other words, do we have the correct strategy and structure in place to beat at least a couple of the sworn enemies (Ess, Coll, Rich) to the next premiership.

16: WCE,  17 WCE. 18 Bullies. 19. Collingwood  20: GWS. 21 Carlton.

Bad luck Tiger and Bombers!!!!

I've got a feeling WC, Freo and Sydney will all be hard to beat next year.

Hawks - maybe squeeze one more freakishly injury-free season out of their pensioner squad.

Cats recruiting looks pretty good on paper but they've also lost a lot of experience. They should be top 8 but I doubt top 4 which I see being mostly inter-state this year.

GWS are the ones I expect to come with a rush this year. Mind-bogglingly awesome squad - even post-Treloar.

Hawks are clearly the ones to beat next year IMO.

Hard to argue with on this point. Then Wet Toast, Fluffy Ducks, Boat Anchors, and that is about it. The over grown Wallabies will always try hard but never make it, and the Doggies have only one flag in their trophy cabinet. Probably won't add to that soon, but could shake it up. I'm just not sure how the Kittens will do over the next few years with Danger in their squad. Just not sure.

Croweaters to be a smoky, and Brisbane have an impressive list of ins that shouldn't be overlooked.

Largely if it's not us I don't really care so long as it's not one of the hated clubs.

Win about the same number of games and get hammered in plenty....we could also have the lowest percentage ever recorded given we lack goalkickers....

x2 In true Carlton tradition, Bolton to be under huge pressure in year 2 even though there are no quick fixes. Lyon or Clarko to then take the reigns.

At least they'll take over when the team is at the bottom

You and me think same......Bolton will do the monkey work then I reckon Ross Lyon will take over given he is mates with SOS who now runs the footy dept and who the Prez seems to have entrusted
the rebuild to..

Next year out of Hawks (my pick) Freo Adel & WC with Coll as a smokey.
2017, Hawks will start to taper, WC Freo Adel will still be strong with Coll and GWS pushing hard.

Bris will be as carp as us for a few years yet.

It's a guess with many final 8 places. Regular some side comes from the pits of the ladder to make the 8

Exactly. I hope BB makes it impossible to be replaced.

I hope he does, I don't want Ross Lyon as our senior coach.

I know you were joking, but I wondered what it would take to do that.
St. Kilda had a completed season percentage of 23.22%.
So what would it take if we were say 5% worse than the worst attack of the last 20 years and we ended up with a percantage of 23.21%

It wasn't very pretty  ;D

The lowest "For" score in the last 20 seasons was comfortably 1270 by GWS.
Even Fitzroy and Melbourne were over 1400 and when we got the spoons were were over 1600.
So if we were to bottom out and be 5% worse, we would score 1206 points for the season.

If we look at the against required to give our percent at 23.21% that would mean our opponents would kick 5196 points

That would mean our average game each week next year would be...

Carlton 8.7.55
Whoever 36.20.236

That would make for a very long season indeed  ;D

The upside is the AFL might give us a special 4th round priority pick to help us out.

Well, we are starting by getting rid of the game plan and coach that didn't consider scoring as an important part of the game plan! ;)

We get the rebound out of defence and the mids working well and the goals will come.....our delivery into F50 has been so poor for so long it defies belief.

The work rate of our mids has been below standard also. The mids hold the key, they need to work harder up and down the ground and defend better. What Cripps did last summer was build himself into the modern midfielder by improving his speed a little but with high endurance. Its what you do when you don't have the ball that counts also. We are good at getting it, but bad at getting it back via pressure and structures. If the mids allow easy ball out of the middle time and time again, the defenders are under too much pressure no matter who you have there. BB will address this I believe.

I don't fear the work rate from most of the players and especially the mids. I hold the coaches accountable to the work rate they will force onto the entire playing group, and expect a completely different attitude from our guys in 2015. They will want to work because they need to hold a place in the top 22. No more passengers.

It's going to be very interesting to see who does and who doesn't survive BB's first year. Ikon Park I think is going to be a very different place from now on.

It probably was. But by 1906, things had changed to what we wanted. I wonder if it will take that long this time around?
