We are generally more composed. Not missing those turover merchants but Garlett needs to improve here, but otherwise he's going ok. So far I am liking the new rules.
Reality always wins in the end.

Walsh will play every game this year if fit...and win the rising star. Daylight 2nd.
Cripps will continue his rise to the elite of the AFL, adding a new string to his bow this pre-season, (attempted) speckys!
Phillips is reminding everyone how good he is when fit. I'd have him in instead of Kreuzer at R1. Has more accelation than Kreuzer around the ground.
SPS is better than he was last year.
Gibbons plays R1. Need more pure footballers in the side who are quick thinkers. Would call him an upgrade on Wright at this stage.
Newman looks solid, although i think he short-armed it once, maybe a touch harsh.
Setterfield doesn't look out of place. Great size, long boot.
McGovern also knows how to play the game and competes well. Gets defenders very nervous from long balls into F50.

Good signs early.

Good comparison with Geoff Raines....he's got that slightly hunched over look....but what an unbelievable half of footy from the kid. I know it's hard to make a call based on half a game in a practice match but I'll be opening the wallet and having a punt on him to win the Rising Star Award. SPS is looking fantastic too and looks a lot quicker and fitter. None of the tall forwards have done much but our midfield is dominating.

Always had high regard for Phillips but the bugger is always injured. Here's hoping he can stay on the park as depth in the ruck department is always handy.

Gibbons starts off with a bang. 3rd goal in first 30 seconds.

And pencil Gibbons in as a lock for Round 1 too.

I got told State League players are no good, the gap is too great between AFL and VFL...... ;) :)

Nic Newman playing very well too....ex Frankston.......

Walsh also showing composure......

Like Jack Silvagni's defensive work, tackling well..
