Meanwhile, the Blues are excited by the prospect of former Collingwood and Fremantle sharp-shooter, Jack Anthony, possibly committing to the club in season 2014.

Anthony had his first training session at Visy Park yesterday as the entire Northern Blues squad officially commenced pre-season.

This is one way to make the message sink in at VFL level.  How successful a game plan is, is dictated by player "buy in".  Anthony can only help in this regard due to his previous working relationship with Mick.

This can only help our AFL team, even if he is not in contention accordingly.  They will once again have a good target to hit up in the forwardline (something that has not always been true of our VFL side).

Anthony is a selfish player and a very strange individual.....lets hope he is hungry for another crack at AFL and does buy in...

So far the Northern Blues have lost Gianfagna, Marcon, Currie, Visser and probably Lambert come thursday night.

And so far all they have brought in is Anthony. :S

A lot of the players left citing more opportunities at a stand alone club as Marcon & Currie both went to Williamstown.

Interesting. I read that Jack has oftrn played as a defender and in fact it was understood that he was recruited by the Pies originally as a replacement fro James Clement. So maybe we are testing him out in the VFL as a potential swingman?
Reality always wins in the end.

Im happy to take on Jack Anthony. Hoping we also have Cam Conlon too. Getting Joel Wilkinson is a deecnt get but id be happy enough to have asked a Dacry Hourigan (SA u18) to the N.Blues and get a first hand look at him with an eye to drafting him end of this year should he do well. Id look to play him at CHB initially with the ability to swing up forward as he is a skillful and powerful young footballer. Add some mids with the ones we are losing. Would have liked to keep Marcon and realy would have liked to keep lambert, hope he stays but can understand why they want to leave. hat just means we replace them as their are alot of mids out there.

What's the update with Lambert, have we allowed him to sign with Williamstown?

According to the AFL website yesterday, he has.
Just glad I'm old enough to have enjoyed the 1995 Grand Final

Thanks nathbear. That's a shame, we need players like him. Going to be a tough year for the NB's I think. At least it will give us plenty of opportunity to play our new kids through the middle.

One cause for optimism would be that the CFC listed players who will take the field for the NBs will be a big improvement on last season.
