Agree.

Taken my (now) 9yo son the last couple years and he could spend the day there without ever looking at the track. Was talking to a chick from Canada who has been to the montreal Grand Prix a few times and she has said the Aussie event is so much better because there is nothing else to do at 'her' event.

Know people who have been to Silverstone. Same thing.
I was at the first Autin Grand Prix, basically the same thing.

I've been to probably 15 Melbourne Grand Prix weekends (usually on Saturdays) and its always quality.

AFL 2024 Rd 0:   Carlton vs Brisbane
A terrible start, but a very solid finish to our first game against last year’s 2nd place getter in Brisbane. This is our first win against Brisbane at the ‘Gabba for something like 11 years, which makes it pretty special.

Trends:
[1]   There were 15 voters this round, a solid number of start the year.

[2]   The rating was a 9.67, which is an A-. That is a measure of how well we finished this game.

[3]   18 players managed a mention again this week, which shows just how we've played in recent times. We are a champion team these days, rather than a team of champions and everyone is making a contribution.

[4]   The average vote this week was 33. Even spread over 18 recipients, this is a considerable score.

[5]   5 players managed 100 votes or more this week. This is becoming the norm when we win these days, and I am not disappointed.

[6]   George Hewett managed 245 votes to be BOG this week, just ahead of Harry McKay (233 votes).

[7]   Only H got votes from every voter this week. George missed one voter, while Tomd de Koning and Cripps missed two.

[8]   Jack Carroll and Zac Williams were in the votes this week, which is excellent. Carroll’s form last year was not consistent enough, while Williams missed the entire year with injury.

[9]   We were a very even team this week, with significant contributions from the mids, the defence and the forwards. May that continue!

Votes:
George Hewett   245
Harry McKay 233
Patrick Cripps 158
Tom de Koning  152
Charlie Curnow 149
Blake Acres  87
Mitch McGovern 84
Jordan Boyd 52
Young, Lewis  52
Fogarty, Lachlan  42
Saad, Adam  42
William, Zac  42
Carroll, Jack  36
Cerra, Adam  32
Kemp, Brodie  19
Cuningham, David 13
Newman, Nicholas  10
Hollands, Oliver  6

Its that balance of coaching for wins and or development only and I think the latter is the priority. When Carlton teams were good in the 60's, 70's etc I never remember the twos being overly successful.

Box Hill did well when the Hawks were flying.

Winning VFL premierships isn’t the be all and end all but it would be better if the transition from VFL to AFL was seamless.  We can’t expect the same skill level but we should expect the same intensity.

Our boys start their season in Rd 2 at Arden St against the 2nd places North at 12:30 on Friday 29th March.

To be honest, our pre-season form hasn't been very good, but we've never had anything like our full complement of AFL or VFL players available. It will be interesting to see just who we select, and how intense we really are.

To be honest, I'd like to see more intensity from our VFL side. We haven't really shown a lot of that under Power. Power has been very good at the development side and dealing with our kids, but he hasn't set the world on fire as a coach. Granted that we'll have a few guys back, I'd like to see a harder edge to our game.

What a brilliantly run event the Aus GP is every year, seems to get better. I think anyone would enjoy a day there. I would highly recommend anyone who hasn't seen a race meeting live, spend the Sat there, 2 F1 sessions (practice and qualifying), an F2 sprint race, and F3 sprint race, V8 Supercars, plenty of food, drinks, stuff for the kiddies. Great value for money, well  to all concerned.
PS if your going GA for a few days, spend the Friday finding your fave spot, get the super early Sat and Sun to get that spot and sent up "camp" with your mates/family.

PSS My fave spots are inside of that track at turn 6 and inside of the track at exit of turn 2.
