If you take a moment to stop and truly imagine about what life would like being fed lies, its almost unbelievable and yet...
Its 2022 and to think that some of the largest nations on the planet live in the "dark".
The young dont believe the propaganda and dont want to fight especially on foreign soil but when you can convince the rest that its Russia under threat and invasion is imminent you can draw on National Pride to bring the nation together and thats what Putin would love to do. He would love to taunt Ukrainian or Nato troops to enter Russian borders to justify his actions and call on his people to defend their country and be the new Stalin and a war hero. Hopefully the West can dampen Zelensky"s urge for revenge and let Putin perish as a failed aggressor...
Some people I know are taking the threat very seriously and have actually stocked up on Iodine tablets. Amazing! Well to me it is.
People we know from Krasnodar have left and gone on a long holiday to Turkey.....they are conscripting men outside the ages specified and with no military training. The news theme is Ukraine attacking Russia supported by their Western Nato Allies and the population are fed that dribble and a lot are oblivious to the truth and believe the propaganda.
Flat wickets and a over abundance of short format games will make experience vs short pitch bowling on quick wickets rare. England, India and Australia play more tests than the other nations and get the experience. Windies don't have the quick bowlers on mass they once did and don't get the practice. They all want to play short format stuff for the money and be all-rounders bowling medium pace yorkers...
I think so,strategy would have been to take a hit in the short term losing a few older customers who wouldnt recognize the new naming but pick up some new customers with a marketing campaign explaining the change and hoping to be rewarded by showing some understanding of the hurt the wording was causing and thus making them a good corporate citizen which may help also with other products they sell under the company banner. Never been a fan of the product myself but it has been a household name for many years when you and I were growing up but as DJ pointed out its not a major contributor of company earnings. We were more Cracker Barrel eaters which is also under the Saputo banner........the following is a guide to all the dairy stuff Saputo owns in Aus which shows you how small an impact Cheer is on their earnings.. https://guide.ethical.org.au/company/?company=1953 Also shows the pros and cons of the company as corporate citizens.....and I reckon they would like to improve their rankings.
If by wider community you mean the majority, I would beg to differ. I'd be fascinated to see some sort of "head count". Apart from this forum/thread, every time I have heard this type of topic (ie name changes) discussed amongst the varying groups of people I associate and interact with both at work and socially, the overwhelming majority I have witnessed first hand have the "what a crock of crap" or "who gives a fork" attitude. Do I need to choose my friends, family and work colleagues more carefully?
The company must have thought the community wanted the wording changed else they wouldnt have bothered changing it to Cheers in Oz and costing them money in the short term. I'm sure they would have done some marketing surveys before making that decision..
Reality is the lovers of Coon cheese are in the minority with this situation and the wider community expect to see the word Coon removed from the Vocabulary in Aus and any jobs lost won't be taken into account. In fact the surname will probably disappear over time as well in Australia imho.
Didn't Warner make a pair in the last Ashes test in Hobart? Broad made him look like a Muppet, and it isn't the first time....I don't see how any other result is likely. His o/s record is very ordinary, so is it reasonable to carry this bloke to whatever end point he wants?
They want him to captain the shorter format teams and stay in Aus to help keep the Big Bash alive so they are giving him a free ride for another 12 months in test cricket. He threatened to quit Aus and play in all the overseas big money tournaments and Cricket Aus gave in and are pandering to him.
I’ve always loved test cricket but I’m finding it hard to get interested in this series.
The Windies are mediocre but the Australian team doesn’t inspire me either. I think it’s the cumulative effects of strange selections, controversy, Langer, and sandpaper.
Agree..thought it was just me getting older but my interest has dropped too. All this kiss and make up stuff with Langar pre game didn't impress me and I just find test cricket is now the poor relation to the short format stuff that makes the money and with poor crowds it's got no atmosphere. .
Don't know why we pander to Warner, he used to get away with batting like a millionaire but just blasting through the line ain't working any more.
Warner is one of the boys club and getting a free ride at the minute in test cricket. He should have retired and stuck to the short formats but wants one more crack at England to try and square up with Broad.
1st test of the summer and Aussies in control as expected, how the mighty have fallen when you look at the Windies today. Bowling is ordinary and their batting isnt much better even though their recent test record isnt too bad especially at home. But looking at todays action its going to be one way traffic in this two test series and maybe we should have played 5 tests vs the Saffies this summer who at least have a high class attack and will provide some competition. The reality is if its not England or the the Indians touring then its not competitive test cricket these days...and maybe I'll include NZ as well but we never seem to play them in a 4-5 test series. Labuschagne should get 200 plus tomorrow and Smith an easy century as well, as well as being non competitive cricket the commentary is equally uninspiring on Channel 7 and the sooner Ch 9 get the cricket back the better..
Think the name is Scottish but may have German origins ie Kunz(need to be careful how you say that too), the process of ripening cheese invented by Edward William Coon was called " cooning" which is also unfortunate terminology if applied in Australia. As I have said before my wife has a friend with the surname Coon and at the height of this fiasco it wasnt an enjoyable name to have from then on and they considered changing it. Id imagine getting a personalized number plate for your car with the family name " Coon" wouldnt be on given racial content is one of the criteria Vicroads and the other authorities use to vet applications. I know they had issues with an insurance application because the company software had a business block on the name. I can see both sides of the story with Coon being a legitimate surname but I also grew up with Coon being used as a derogatory racial slur for coloured folk and seeing that on a supermarket shelf keeping alive that term isnt what you want either.
We experienced a taste of far left authoritarian government during the pandemic.
No one on here knows what a far right junta government truly looks like and discuss moderates in the same breathe as Adolf Hitler.
Not the same thing at all.
For me this isn't a team sport, whether my vote won or not is irrelevant to me) but the guy in power has what, 5 IBAC investigations against his leadership? Oh, and in case you want to see the leopard's real spots, let's all remember Jenny mikakos, and how a politician who is female and from a ethnic background was sacrificed to save face.
Not sure how the health minister is responsible for the hotel quarantine crap, but thats a discussion that is very hard to get concrete answers on.
Not disagreeing with any of that but the public couldnt find enough positives in Guy and the Liberals to make the change as the alternative. The Liberals will be fighting for survival looking past the next couple of elections the way things are going especially if the Nationals vote to end the Coalition. Federally its not much better and they need to dump Dutton and have more young blood as candidates, women in leadership roles and better policies on climate change, energy, and get a grip on the cost of living because thats what the public want.
