Whether that was pre-planned or not we'll never know, but you can only do it when you have ultra mobile type rucks like TDK or Jackson as they become an extra stoppage player in the zone.

FWIW, back when we had both Kreuzer and Hampson in F50 we would do a similar thing, because they were both mobile enough around stoppages, it left the opposition not knowing which ruck would contest and which ruck would rove, I never understood why we didn't implement it more. There are some old clips floating around of Kreuzer and Hampson roving to each other for goals. The 3rd man up stifled the tactic for a while, and now having to nominate reduces some of the impact, but it still works if you have the right options available.

Most of the time, we only had one of them available for extended periods of time.

We need to be educated by players and coaches in the current system.

Selwood taught me something last week that I had never heard or thought of before. Adelaide were coming back against Melbourne but the clock was working against them. With about 4 minutes left Selwood said Adelaide will have to "Something" tackle. (I forgot the word). He went on to explain it was like half tackling, they couldn't afford the dead balls. Deliberately not committing to a tackle to keep the ball moving so you have a chance of winning.
Yep I heard that it was auskick tackling.

It was largely because they had no stoppage dominate and stoppages took more time off the clock and advantaged gawn and the dees midfield.

So I don't want to buy into whats fair and what isn't, but if you have a look at pack marks, you will see hands on the ball from usually a defender in front, a defender behind, and if a key forward is still strong enough to grab it and pull it down in that situation.

I know for a touched goal, brushing past someone's leg and not is the difference between a goal and not, but this is being beat up on a maybe touched mark.

HTF Fantasia keeps getting a game is beyond me.  The photos must be incriminating.

I think he's playing a selfless role, has football nous a plenty and is playing a position that isn't going to rack up stats.  Boyd and fantasia both were in a position to have a rush of blood and try score a goal but lowered their eyes and spotted up a team mate closer and in better position to score resulting in goals.

I'd wager he's a leader in our forward line too where there are a lot of players who haven't had a proper mentor so willing to let him do that.

So far he hasn't been stellar but he hasn't really done much wrong either.

The Freo F50 is taller than us, three KPFs over 195cm and Jackson rests forward!

Could be a tough week for TDK, Jackson is in good form.

Freo have finally realised smashing Jackson in the ruck trying to win taps means nothing when you have a player with his sort of ground skill and agility. If a fan was naïve enough just to look at the rucks stats it would suggest O'Brien smashed Jackson, but the ruck stats are meaningless, Jackson made O'Brien look like a traffic cone.

When the ball got locked into the Freo F50, Treacy took some of the ruck and Jackson became a mobile 4th KPF in Charlie style.
yeah but who are they?  Amiss is the only one that looks promising.  Taberner is a good size but he's a bit of a dud, and treacy is a relative unknown quantity.

Remember height is one thing the ability to perform at the level is another.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 3 2024 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs North Melbourne
I suspect this win might not get the merit it deserves, because I actually thought the opposition wasn't too bad.
North are a young side with a bit of talent coming through.
They moved the ball really well at times, but just lacked a bit of polish and discipline....yet we've beaten them by nearly ten goals.
There was a point in the game around the middle of the third where we started to get a bit 'lairy' and they kicked a couple of goals. It was good to see that checked.
Clarkson actually talked us up in his presser (probably as a bit of a deflection) but he said....
Coming off the bye they were "just so fresh and strong, they're a strong side anyway".
He also made mention of our pressure which he said was "supreme".

It was a good convincing win against a side who has a bit of talent but never really worried us.  They did move it end to end far too easily at times and largely we have played pretty ordinary at times this season.

The good thing is no matter how bad we are going we seem to turn it on and then eclipse sides.

I have the feeling that this is a danger game this week but I am not sure exactly why.  Maybe one reason is that North were 4-5 goals up against Freo in the 2nd quarter then missed 3 easy shots at goal that could have given them a bigger lead but they missed them all.
They played well in the first half.  But we are better than Freo?  Still, we need to start well coming off the bye worries me.
Maybe it's the Clarkson factor that still haunts me?   Anyway, if we aspire to be a top four team, we need to put young developing teams like Norf to the sword and win and win well.

It's too many false dawns.  Gritty teams would turn up and we'd struggle.

It's not really a cripps trait.  North have been a bogey side for us, but their lack of key backs should see us win easily enough.
