Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2018 Rd 11: Post Game Pragmatism: Carlton vs Sydney
Like so many of our games there are many lost opportunities - 4 points from fairly easy shots for goal (including a couple from experienced enough players), a stuffed kick, handball, fumble at inopportune moments.

I don't think we would have won had we converted those goals, but it starts building confidence within the team getting closer.

Each time a player takes their moment builds the team.  Each player would only have possession for a couple of minutes a game on average - need to make the most of every touch.

Liked BBs interview today - it was good to see the acknowledgement of some things and elaborating/different slant on a couple of others:
 - all kids will need a spell in the 2s at some stage - it is just part of their development
 - the kids are playing more games in the 1s than they would at a stronger club due to necessity
 - media brought up the priority pick - not in our thinking at this stage
 - Jack will spend time in the midfield (but not much)
 - Q re: Weitering basically told the journo to look at last weeks game, because he was OK
 - was happy with the back 6 last week

Having said that, i don't expect us to get too close tomorrow night even with the rain.

This is the by-line that I saw - "Geelong's Sam Menegola has been directed straight to the tribunal for his incident with Carlton's Sam Rowe."  The article got the reporting right, however.

It certainly looked bad on the night - I had a quick look to find footage, but couldn't find any.  Be interested to see what we all missed on the night (Rowe holding arm, Shin making contact with Rowe's back etc)

Can we appeal it?

started leaving after the Lamb goal in the third.

Quite often the ball goes to the right places, however the players don't, so we are consistently following up and scrambling for the ball.   The is also a significant amount of missed targets, again requiring a huge amount of energy to follow up.

Kicked down the line a lot was due to a lack of targets and movement.

There were a couple of cracking handballs, but then our player gets caught trying to take them on.

We aren't gelled as a team yet.  Is this due to not having or best 22 going round, length of time playing together, game plan not being understood, or adapted for the team that we have on the park.

More concerned about the first half and 5 minutes of third quarter then the second half.  They scored some very easy goals...

As a curiosity, how do we plan for Sunday's game?

 - 2 players, regular 22, cited on Monday.
 - start considering alternatives for replacements/tweak to game plan (eg kick it to Charlie won't work)
 - get relief at the tribunal (kick it to Charlie will work again)
 - appeal lodged - 2 days twiddle thumbs (waiting to find out if we kick it to Charlie or not)
 - Thurs 3pm start the planning for Sunday

It is different to an injury, as there isn't intimate knowledge about which outcome is more likely (eg we hope Murph will get up, but we know he is a 30% chance to play)

To me, manifestly inadequate is a worry from the AFL. $1000 vs one week is a bit of the same thing (although 1 week loses eligibility for the Brownlow and doesn't penalise the team.

Manifestly inadequate would mean they want at least 2 weeks, maybe 3 or more as has been suggested in the media.

They are both trivial and have been stirred up way out of proportion.

May's action could have been careless, but more likely too contact an umpire.  Surely Ziebell's kneeing was worse much greater potential for thuggery in other levels of the game.    Can other clubs appeal decisions?

Paul, I kind of agree and know where you're coming from.

I don't think Goddard was treated nearly as much as Mills was - that was over the top.  The first qtr, maybe, but the second he was much more free.  It almost seemed as if a few players kind of remembered and instruction and half heartedly followed through after qtr time.

While not saying it is right - they were doing some ordinary things as well.

If players such as Goddard, Sicily and maybe Oliver behave like they do when a little comes back to them, of course teams are going to take that advantage.  Bet that Gawn won't be targetted...

Does it follow that if the physical is rubbed out, so is the verbal?  It appeared Bellchambers gave someone a mouthful after the first bounce was recalled.

Is there anything better than beating Essendon?

The excitement in our household was very high, apparently (I was out and had to watch later).

The intensity at the start was great and as others have stated we were able to increase it when needed.

While there is still plenty of room for improvement, it is fantastic to get a win on the board - just makes you feel a bit better.

How good was Kruez 2nd quarter, got a clearance into space, Kerridge (I think) couldn't quite get there, Goddard got the ball, but Kruez got im.  Love the big fella.

I don't really care about what other clubs' forum boards have although I had a quick squizz - the bombers are way worse than this forum - as are a couple of the facebook posts!

Go Blues.

Laj: Team selections are totally out of kilter with the modern game.

The modern game has been happening every year since footy was invented!  What is the modern game?  Depends on the team and opposition of the day.

What if we are in the midst of creating "the modern game" - a different style to everyone else that will win a flag.  IFF we had the full list in form, we are building a pretty good side, and there would probably be a fair bit of excitement and a few more wins on the board.  Our best 22 would still have Cas, Charlie, McKay as forwards with a couple of crumbers to keep the pressure on - Pickett, Garlett, Wright (egs only).

ATM, our worst enemy is our skill - dropped marks, handballs at the feet, fumbling balls in packs etc. and injuries - not making excuses, but we don't have any depth - we need our best 22 out there.

The desperation in the last 10 minutes was good.  Not really sure where it was for the rest of the game .

Rowe's 73 metre penalty was interesting.  25 metres further in and it is a proper shot for a goal.

Thought Cas was alright - he at least seemed to mark it when so many others dtopped them.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2018 Rd 5: Post Game Passion: Carlton vs West Coast
Saw bits and pieces on TV.  A couple of bits that I liked - Dow had the footy and Rioli lined him. Dow rode the tackle and Rioli went down.

In the first(?) qtr, McKay tired to kick a bit round the corner to Casboult and ended up out of bounds - Derm, mentioned that with a bit more experience, there was a sidestep and easy pass.  Late in the game SOSOS did that - sidestepped the opponent and put it on McKay's head - mark and goal.

The kids did some good stuff and we didn't seem to try to be so cute, which helped.

One annoying thing was Phillips (twice) and Charlie were having set shots from 55 out. Never going to work...
