Title: AFLW 2022b - R4 vs Fremantle
Post by: kruddler on September 11, 2022, 02:03:09 pm
Travelling to the west to take on Freo @Fremantle oval.

Will be a tough task despite Freo being 0-3, they are a lot better than that.

Should get Pound back.
Probably lose Guerin.
I think there'd be question marks over Vellardo and Trudgeon too.

Need the win to stay in the positive as currently, 1-1-1.

Have a bit of luck on the injury front despite losing 2 players in the past 2 games for the season. They are our only 2 injuries.
It appears Freo are struggling more.

Any chance we get a free kick?

Freo's playing better footy but the umpiring is incredibly one-sided  >:(

Not sure how old that female umpire is, but she looks like she shouldn't be umpiring above U15's level, and its showing.

Some incredible non-decisions going on that should not even be a debae, just flat out wrong. Not even the AFL could attempt to justify some of them.
There was 3 in the space of 30 seconds (all favoured Freo) and the players are just left shaking their heads in disbelief.

I think the one free for holding the ball that i can remember (favoured us) was probably not even worth a free kick.

Pathetic umpiring aside, Freo are playing much better than us.
With all the players we lost in the off-season, and the players that are injured, we are playing players who are simply not up to scratch yet. Too many dropped marks, fumbles, mis-kicks and mis-handballs! Basic skill errors that should not be seen at AFLW level.

In AFL terms, our midfield has been devistated so badly, that we are so far down our depth chart, that its equivalent to Paddy Dow being our #1 midfielder.

All this talk about 'folding under pressure' is simply because our players have not been able to develop, rather thrust into the side before they are ready.

6 v 7 frees
We're playing poorly. Despite good conditions, can't get clean ball and our disposals are largely ineffective.

24 v 6 against a weak Freo says it all. I hope we have another gear.

Go Blues

Work so hard and dominate the quarter to get your nose in front. Then they get gifted a goal because freo player just dives forward while tackled.

I hate that as a rule.

We should've got a free for push in the back before Moody kicked that goal.

Girls have earned this. Lets hope they can hold on.

oh FFS.
How have they plucked out that free?
Holding was the call by the umpire.

Football gods took care of that one. Who misses from 10m out!

Another week. Another draw!  :o

Freo gifted quite a few shots in front of goal in the last to get them 2 points.

I thought it was Pound's for in the back! Blinked and it was given to Freo 15m from goal 😳
Go figure

Good 2nd half response but alas. Just not enough. Skepper had a solid game.

God to see us come back like that, but a pity the Umps had no idea.
I do hope we put in an official complaint. It doesn't happen often, but it really should this time.

Lucy McEvoy gets pinged for a tackle that just possibly may have endangered her opponent but no harm was done.

Amelia Velardo gets concussed and it’s play on 🙄

Umpires have a tough job and I don’t believe that they show bias.  However, our game was marred by inconsistent application of the rules and blatant free kicks being missed.  Some of the decisions that went our way were questionable but many of the non-decisions that went Freo’s way were inexplicable.

Our first quarter was not up to standard but we played the better footy for the last three quarters.  A couple of half-decent umpiring calls and we win comfortably.

Moody, McKay, Hill, Laloifi and Peterson were great, McEvoy and O’Dea were solid and we’ve found a player in Skepper.  Jess Good is coming along nicely too.

Last 3 teams to have back to back draws.

2022b - Carlton AFLW
2017 - GWS AFL
1921 - Carlton VFL/AFL.

3rd time in 101 years!

Paige Trudgeon was concussed too.

If I remember correctly she was free-kicked for smashing her head into an opponent's hip and not disposing of the ball because she was stunned.

Not sure what your new threads have to do with the umpiring in the Freo game 🤔🫤

Shocking run with injuries; short and long term!

It seemed you posted just to announce that Trudgeon was injured. Apologies if that wasn't your intention.

It was a subtle reference to my previous post about the McEvoy tackle and the Velardo concussion. 😇
