To be fair, all he did was request that the boys at the end of the court have an equal number of balls each when he was serving - he didn't abuse them.  Medvedev was bemused that they had to run to each other and hand the balls over, not throw them.  But it was another example of a clumsy approach to a simple request.
Mmmm, having symmetrical balls, very important.

Sounds like just another excuse for failure, "It wasn't my fault, I lost because the lad had asymmetrical balls!" ::)

Mind you, if he is so inclined to be focussed on that sort of thing, I can see why a lad having an odd number of balls might be very distracting, 1 or 3 is not a natural number! :o

They should change Medvedev's nickname to "Boo Hoo!"

Is there an asterix on Barty's win given Serena was unable to compete because of injury? Of course not. Same goes for Nadal's win: Djokovic was absent for medical reasons too, although in his case he could have easily avoided them by getting the damn jab. The only way there should be an asterix next to Nadal's achievement is as a reminder of what a dickhead Novax is.

Barty would have chopped Serena.

Barty would have chopped any opponent, and Serena is not the player she was.

Exactly. Serena in her prime would be a very interesting match up with Barty at the moment.
Bartys a tricky player and no current player has been able to be consistent enough to get over her change of pace, varying spins and in particular her heavy slice. Barty is a generational defensive player that frustrates the majority of her opponents to the point they lose belief they have enough consistent weapons to get past her.
Playing offensively against a crafty defensive and most of all consistent player is very hard and even harder on the big stage. You need to have strong belief in your ability. Any doubts and you’re gone.
Serena and Graf before her are players that had the tools to beat Barty but of the current crop there is not that sort of offensive quality and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Barty win multiple slams if she can maintain her current gameplan.

Barty will struggle at the US Open, the lightweight tennis balls used by the girls in US tournaments are more conducive to players who hit the ball flat like the Williams sisters, or like Barty's most recent opponent Collins. The lower mass of the ball means Barty's changes of pace have less effect on unsettling the opponents game.

Barty has shown that perhaps her greatest strength is the ability to adapt her game and strategy to manage different opponents - most of the other girls on tour are machines that do it the same way.

If she stays fit and with her style of game, Barty may well get to Flushing Meadow with a Grand Slam on offer.

I would imagine that if she snaffles the French in May, and Wimbledon in June, she will spend the next three months leading up to the US Open making sure she knows how to deal with different balls.

This is now the longest premiership drought in the history of the Carlton Football Club - more evidence of climate change?

Sure, but you can't beat the physics, and it is perhaps not so much about what Barty does but what opponents can do in the US that they can't do elsewhere! ;)

"Ash Barty’s celebratory sip of beer during a TV interview following her historic victory in the Australian Open has been dobbed into the alcohol marketing watchdog.

The Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code (ABAC) investigated how Barty’s TV toast with a Corona during her post-match panel interview with Channel 9 came about following a viewer complaint, claiming the cheers with beers glorified and glamorised alcohol.

The complainant also questioned if the moment was a PR stunt.

The ABAC sets standards for the responsible content and placement of alcohol marketing in Australia.

“I think the segment glorified and glamorised alcohol and was very deceptive if it was indeed a paid promotion. Why else are they doing it if it wasn’t a paid stunt? It’s poor when many children were up watching the final and Ash Barty is a role model for many girls too,” the complaint read.

The ABAC code states alcohol marketing must not show or encourage irresponsible or offensive behaviour related to the consumption or presence of booze nor have strong appeal to minors."

Have you ever read a greater crock of crap in your life!!!

So having a beer to celebrate a Grand Slam victory is encouraging irresponsible behaviour?  Its not like she went 3 sheets to the wind and went on national tv making a fool of herself like Brendan Fevola.

That quote is from the complainant, not anyone in authority.

Wowsers will be sanctimonious, that’s their calling 🙄

I wonder if there’s enough there to support a defamation action ... although Ash is probably not the type to sue dlckheads.

None of us should be shocked at the actions of fanatics, regardless of which side of the fence they sit, where an opportunity exists and opportunist exists.

We should probably be more shocked by people who are shocked that opportunistic stuff like this keeps happening!

Personally, the biggest offense on the night was the initial inference that Barty was expected to drink alone!
