French Open Tennis - 2014

No love or interest here in this tournament ?

Both Williams sisters gone. Li Na gone. Tomic (of course) gone.

Fed and Nadal still there.

The French obviously think that the tournament is carp, they don't even support it. Crowds are a disgrace!!

Playing on that surface is an anachronism.

Stan the man shocking first round exit.

Big Sammy Stosur faces the Shrieker next.

Always a tough match up for Sammy who has often lost the match before she walks on the court.
Finals, then 4 in a row!

Playing on that surface is an anachronism.

Most tennis clubs in Melbourne have a similar surface.

Not much longer they are slowly being converted, although there are lots of school and public tennis courts still using clay.

If the tennis club wants to run a ranking tournament that is recognised by Tennis Australia is must be on the same surface as Rod Laver Arena, Plexicushion.

Australian clubs can get subsidised to upgrade their courts to Plexicushion and many clubs have done so already with many more in the queue waiting for funding or installation. The demand is quite high so the waiting list is long.

Plexicushion  :-\ what is the American surface? Just the stuff athletic tracks are made from?

Correct, they are all very similar surfaces now, running tracks, tennis, athletics.

The US use a slightly different system to Australia.

For Australian Open tennis the old Rebound Ace stuff went out about 5 or 6 years ago.

Can't wait for Raonic to take it up to Djocko tomorrow night. Took him to 3 sets 2 weeks ago. If the Canadian has his huge serve wound up it could be a real contest. Not considered in the big league yet, and needs a win v Djocko on the big stage to be taken as a serious contender.
