Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Pandemonium: AFL Rd 3: Carlton vs Fremantle
Good solid team game, no real brilliance but a 45 point win, playing a bruising style. I don't see why we would change the team at all, sure we may have had some quite players, but I saw someone write that Newnes should be dropped, I don't understand why 23 disposals, none overly flashy, but provided a nice link player to help get the handball chains going. Can't see how you'd drop Newnes.

I also fell through the floor when I saw that someone said Williamson needs to come back in, WHY? He's been crap this season and Parks did more in his first game that Willo has this season.

As for dropping Plowman, who's going to be that defender who goes to the best small or mid. Sure he got beat last week, but we had just one AFL listed defender playing in the VFL this week in Williamson, who was playing worse and could shut down anybody, cause he wear roller skates and slips over continually. When you've finished so high in the B&F for continual years, you will get the chance to redeem yourself, which I though Plowman did today, 10 marks and 21 poss with 327 meters gained.

As mentioned Fogarty is a great get, possibly the best of all three or at least an equal to. 25 disposals, 7 tackles, 3 clearances, 440 meters gained playing mainly as a HFF, plus his lowering of the eyes was outstanding. He's a 200 gamer.

Harry won't get it much easier than that, ball coming in low and fast, with a third rate backman on him who gave up front position all day long. It a shame that he only got 7 goals, Harry has to kick the left hand side of the field goals where he can't snap round the corner.

I got into Cripps last week, this week credit where it's due, he was much better, and he also did the hand over to a HFF on occasions, he played well as a forward and straight kicking shows there is some future in attack on a more regular basis. 34 Poss, 11 clearances and 2 goals. But they had a better balance across the centre with starting square of Cripps, Williams and Ed, with Walsh on the wing who had to be best on ground today 37 touches with 4 tackles and they were hard possessions.

Jones was outstanding down back, playing his own game, Gibbons was very good as well, same with Jack. It was a team win.

The first half especially reminded me of a Richmond type playing style, running in numbers and just the will to get the ball forward any way and arriving in number at every contest, get it to the right player to kick it forward.

It's not just about selection, it's about the position they play. Setterfield on the wing 19 meters gained???!!!???

While Walsh has done well on the ball, it looks as if he will need to be on the wing, so we have runners outside and Setterfield inside, but does that make us too big and slow.

What about Ed Curnow? Still good enough, plays his guts out, but by playing him on the wing do we do a Bolton and play Ed out of position? If we bring Stocker in, are we going to play him inside on the ball? Or is he a Williamson replacement? Again playing a natural midfielder out of position.

Can we play Ed of a HFF flank that pushes into the mid after the ball has been bounced and Cripps goes to HFF and plays the lead up to the wings for a rebound. He has the hands to take an over head mark then hopefully feed of to the runners.

This way we can play Cripps as a forward half inside mid against a HBF and Stocker (If playing BP) can be the same in the back half.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: The rise and RISE of Marc Pittonet
The old saying of Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics definitely applies here. It comes down to the eye test and Pitonett was poor at centre bounces, Grundy got a lot of clean ball, which he hit away from the immediate area rather than at his hip.

Why does this matter? Well it takes Cripps out of the game. Cripps like to work in a phone booth, on that 1-2 square meters of space where he can use his size and strength to either get hands on the ball or tackle his opponent. What Grundy did by hitting it to space, gave the quicker and better drilled Collingwood mids space to run on to the ball, making Cripps near redundant as he doesn't have speed or explosiveness off the mark.

On a side note, in out two games we have had two periods where we have been dominant in play around the ground. Against Richmond it was the third quarter where we kicked all the points, but Richmond could barely get their hands on the ball. The other was the third/fourth quarter against Collingwood where we came right back and got to 7 points. Both times Cripps was up forward for most of the times, not in the midfield. This allowed our mids to match the opposition in speed and nullified their rucks hitting the ball out to space.

Call it conditioning, call it frustration, I woke up this morning feeling that we are just not that good. Just to the left of me in the stands last night were:
Betts
Gov
Jack S
Matty C
Nick Newman
plus all the youngies
Would any of them have made a difference last night? Doubt it.

Last night Charlie makes a difference and TDK makes a difference.

Would a healthy Marchbank make a difference? I doubt he'd be tight or strong enough on DeGoey.

Would Newman make a difference if he were to replace Williamson, I'd say yes. A steadier head and a ground ball winner.

Could you put a McGovern down back and say man up DeGoey? Has the burst speed, jump and size, but does he have the mind set.

I'm with you we're not that good, our list is just middle of the road. I remember SOS saying it's easy to get a list to finish 8th, I call BS, cause we can't even make that.

Pittonett is a d grade ruck and Grundy showed him up as much. The Grundy to Adams show was predictable and Teague took 3 quarters to put Curnow on him. When the class of Pendlebury and Adams are getting first dibs on the ball we have no hope in defence as our mids don't apply any pressure.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: In Game Action: AFL 2021 Rd 2: Carlton vs Collingwood
Setterfield, Williamson, Casboult, Murphy - You all don't deserve a game next week.

Cripps and Docherty I should include you in this but because you are captains you're going to get a game. Worst luck both are liabilities.

Bring in Stocker, Kennedy, McDonald, at least they will play with heart.

Teague should be worried, Lyon sitting in the wings and we have very little defensive pressure.

We have not improved at all, Collingwood wanted the ball and we just sat back and let them.

Like what I saw from Fogarty, Harry, Williams, Saad, Gibbons, Martin and Fisher.

It's the same old story, too much left to too few.

Carlton supporters have been duped into thinking this is a good team on the rise, it's an unbalanced, injured wreck with good PR.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: In Game Action: AFL 2021 Rd 2: Carlton vs Collingwood
Setterfield, Williamson, should be dropped if Teague is fair dinkum, They are useless and Newnes is not much better.

Plowman is on a hiding to nothing with the ball coming down so easy.

We are kidding ourselves if we think that Docherty is still AA, his disposal is dismal, how many times does he kick the ball out on the full.

Cripps is useless unless he can get first hands on the ball, let him leave and we'll do better.

Casboult is pure crap, someone give him a cork so we can get McDonald on.

I'm furious with the lack of intent, too many waiting for others to do things, making half ar$ed attempts. Got very comfortable being good against Richmond while the media tore Collingwood a new one. I think Teague needs to have a good look at his selections for next week.

We have not improved at all, the only good thing is the players we have bought in over the past two seasons, Williams Martin and Saad. The red pen needs to come out and rules some guys out for next week.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2021 Rd 1: Carlton vs Richmond
The effort deserved better than a 4 goal defeat, yes we ran out of tickets and to a point it's unacceptable, however game running can not be replicated, if this is still the case in round 5 then i'll be concerned.

The main difference between the two sides was the midfields willingness to run both ways, Richmond had 6 players streaming back to clog up their back line, we had our mids jogging 10 meters behind their opponent, I look at Dow, Setterfield and the biggest culprit CRIPPS! Cripps is only effective if he gets first hand on the ball which was impossible when middle of the road Nankervis was creaming Pitonett at centre bounces getting taps to dangerous places, and of course Dow & Cripps were flat footed every time.

Can someone please explain why when our captain (Docherty) was kneeling down, getting to his feet and show pony half heart Bolton pushes him with two hands in the head, only O'Brien came in to remonstrate, who got grabbed by Nankervis and didn't take a backward step either. Just poor team ethos.

There is not enough team in Carlton at the moment, one in all in.

Great - Walsh, our shining light and beacon of hope, runs all day and has no fear.

Good - Fisher, Gibbons, Saad, Weitering

Decent - Cripps, Silvagni, McDonald, Fogerty, Murphy, Newnes, Ploughman, Curnow

Poor - McKay, Casboult, Dow, Pitonett, Setterfield, Docherty, Jones

Terrible - Williamson, O'Brien, SPS

For Collingwood - Stocker for Williamson. Williams for O'Brien. Martin for Silvagni. SPS gets a reprieve only just. Maybe McDonald for Casboult too. Cunningham can sub.

I was waiting all last season to see Willo go back to his rookie form and it hasn't happen, I'm thinking it may never.
O'Brien needs to get back to VFL and use his running up and back, he played some good games at the end of 2019 using his run and this new game will suit him if the confidence back.
Casboult needs a run or two at a lower level to get his touch back, how many times did he drop an easy mark?

I didn't go into the game with much hope, but through the game we were more than competitive, in big stretches. We kicked ourselves out of the game in the third quarter when we had control of the game, Richmond had control in the second half of the second quarter and they kicked goals, we kicked points.

A lot to like about parts of the game, however as some have said.... different year, same game.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Passion: 2019 AFL Rd 19: Carlton vs Adelaide
Played like men today, all rolled their sleeves up and dug in.

I would like to say this however, ever since Daisy called the umpire a cheat we have got a very raw deal from the umpires, so many barely there frees given to the opposition and we basically have to be raped to get a free. If anyone on here calls into the radio stations then I think you should bring this into the air and call the umpires on their bias.

Even today when Dow didn't have many disposal he did a lot of defensive running, DeLuca is a little demon, Gibbons the same, O'Brien ran hard up and down the wings and hit some important targets, Jack was at his hard working best, Walsh was superb as was Weitering, although I hope he gets the pushing in the back out of his game soon.

Samos pick up and spin away from the contact was a once in a season play, then Setterfield did it just afterwards, very clean and I always feel confident when either have the the ball in their hands.

I could gush on all night but the results justify the sacking of Bolton. Now the Carlton board needs to finish the job and appoint Teague, maybe get some more experienced assistant coaches around him.

It's a good time to be a Carlton member, and it's great to hear the Carlton crowd at the game for the first time in two years.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pre Game Prognostications AFL 2019 Rd 19 Carlton vs Adelaide
I have a very bad feeling about this game, it could be where Teague gets eliminated from the coaching position 2020.

I would like to see us try something different and tag their half backs, De Luca and Fisher to go with Smith and Laird while Ed takes thie most damaging mid,

Get the ball into Samo and Newmans hands and run the ball out of their forward 50, break lines and run in waves. Adelaide are front runners and will only run hard when they have the game in hand.

Leave a backman anchored in the D50 to stop the run back to goal, and don't bomb into our F50, as their backline is set up for that.

Adeliade are beatable by a defensive game plan and outside run, hope we can bring it.

Is this what it feels like for a religious person to lose their faith. I feel numb, angry, I'm shaking and feel like I want to cry.

Fouth year of catch phrases for a coach who I guess was always supposed to be a sacrificial lamb. The team has not improved, there is no positive culture, how can there be. There are kids out there getting a game without earning it, so why try harder? They get their game and match payments, they'll be cuddled and told it's not their fault and how great things are, well it's not great at all. The Carlton players in general are pretenders, they give token efforts, drop their heads way to easy and I can't see a light at the end of the tunnel.

If I hear the Carlton hierarchy come out and say be patient and we feel your pain I 'll spew.

I just want to bring one thing up about our coaches. Paddy Dow has gone and hired a kicking coach, we have Bolton and 10 assistant coaches and Paddy Dow has to go find himself a kicking coach....WTF?

There is no one with real values for Carlton and there is only one logical coach to throw the kitchen sink at and it's Ratten. I know he knocked us back before, but in an interview this weekend, he admitted he got the main job too early, throw a crap load of money at him and plead for Ratts to come back to Carlton. It is the only move that will save the club, because at this rate our 60K members will drop back to 40K next season.

The Context my friend is that his colleague is lying unconscious on the ground, while 10’s of thousand of people at the ground and on national tv are watching in stunned belief and dread and he does not have have the emotional intelligence to understand something serious is happening. Hearing a fart is not a get out of jail card. I know it was only an example mate, but he’s a grown man, not a 12 year old and he is also in our Leadership group. He has to own that moment and be taken aside and told that that is not a time to laugh but a time to lead.

Add to that the fact that you are getting your ar$e handed to you
